The program will explore the journey of motherhood through two very different lenses. The first half will be a performance of Robert Schumann's song cycle with text by Aldebert von Chamisso; Frauenliebe und Leben, a journey of falling in love, marriage, beginning a family, and then experiencing loss. This romantic era journey of a woman's love and life is told through the voice of a male poet and composer. The second half is a female story told through exclusively the female voice; The award-winning, contemporary song cycle, "Baby Book" with poetry by Chloe Yelena Miller and music by Lauren Spavelko. This cycle explores miscarriage, pregnancy, and early parenthood with raw honesty and beautiful simplicity.
