White Peacock focuses on high-end brands such as Versace, Baccarat, Moser and Pickard just to name a few. Parsons particularly enjoys adding unique items to his clients’ homes that become centerpieces not found elsewhere. While Parsons’ background is eclectic, his experience in commercial art, retail experience and 30 years traveling the globe as a flight attendant have led him to where he is now: making the bridal registry and decor business fun, upscale and built on the relationships he develops with his clients.

What surprises people about you?

I grew up in a small town in South Dakota. My first job was wrangling sheep and I worked in a meat packing plant to pay my way through college.

How do people describe you?

I think they describe me as high energy and a good friend, creative.

Who do you most admire?

I guess I’d choose someone from the creative and spiritual world, so Brendon Burchard and Lewis Howes and their podcasts.

Favorite Denver metro restaurant?

Denver has so many amazing restaurants but for the most part I’m very casual. My go-to spot for meeting friends for happy hour is Bad Daddy’s.

What was the last great book you read?

High Performance Habits by Brendon Burchard.

What is your biggest fashion faux pas?

I try to be careful of what I wear so I don’t know what I would say.

People, because that is what brought me into retail. It’s not just about selling stuff, it’s about creating relationships. I like my alone time of course, to be reflective, but I always need to return to the energy of being around people.

What was your last major purchase?

I bought my condo last year.

What gadget can you not live without?

My phone.

What are your hobbies?

I like listening to music. I meditate and workout as well. I love to travel but don’t have much time lately.

What one word describes Coloradans to you?

Friendly.

What is your most memorable Colorado experience?

Opening White Peacock. I had great experiences and memories with my first store but I really wanted to open a different kind of store in a totally different environment. White Peacock was the answer to that. It’s in an amazing store, in a busy area, filled with many locals and tourists.

What is your favorite spot in Colorado to visit?

I haven’t explored Colorado that much because Denver has so much to offer. I enjoy exploring different areas, coffee shops, antique stores and local eateries.

the industry was very volatile. So, I had to do a lot of things on the side to make money. I started working in retail and really enjoyed it. I eventually opened my own store in Cable, Wis. That finally led me to highend retail in the Cherry Creek area and the partnerships I have now.

You were a flight attendant for 30 years traveling all over the world.

How did that impact what you do now?

I developed a love and appreciation for other cultures (instead of aesthetics).

Do you have a favorite story from your years as a flight attendant?

Every day was different because you worked with and met different people all of the time. My favorite stories were those made with these new-found friends throughout the world. If you hoping I would share crazy passenger stories ... there are far too many to even start.

Prior to establishing White Peacock, you were in retail. What were the main lessons you brought with you?

Mix it up. You can go into stores that look the same all the time. But if you change things up, people will notice different items. Customer service is, of course, number one. But you need to make things look good and fresh.

Are you involved with any charities?

I’ve worked with Volunteers of America, Project Angel Heart and Dumb Friends League.

How is White Peacock different from other bridal registry and decor stores?

I don’t know of any other store in Denver that has what we have. If you are a bride and want to see the product and touch the product you can. We also try to make it fun, like we serve champagne in Baccarat glasses while choosing and deliberating.

What took you down this career path?

I started in the airline industry in the 1970s for a small airline, and

and the personal experience are still good sales tools. Again, it’s the relationships you build and the customer service that competes with the price undercuts of places like Amazon.

What one piece of business advice would you give to individuals just starting in the retail space?

Make sure you understand you are in a customer-driven business so customer service is the most important aspect.

What does White Peacock do to be involved in the community?

We gave part of the proceeds of our grand opening to Project Angel Heart. We have also donated to a number of the local charities. We hope to work with more partners in the future.

Cherry Creek North is known as a pretty upscale retail neighborhood. Do you focus on upscale items?

Yes, we do. But we aren’t the snobby type. We are fun and relaxed. We do also have really cool, less expensive items.

Has there ever been an item in your store that you absolutely had to have?

There are a lot of things in here I would love. There are new patterns every day as well, and so many stories are associated with new designs and items. Unfortunately, I just can’t bring everything home.

Any sage words of advice for those about to take the plunge and get married?

JESSE OGAS CAN BARELY CONTAIN his excitement as he strides through the hallways of the former Sobesky Academy in Lakewood. At the moment, it’s a busy construction zone, but in May, it is scheduled to reopen as the new day-treatment facility of Firefly Autism. Founded in 2003 under a different name, the nonprofit organization has grown to be a national leader in serving children and young adults on the autism spectrum.

For every student at Firefly Autism, there’s a therapist. Firefly currently serves 40 children at the center at a time and maintains a large waitlist.

“In this new facility, we will be able to serve 160 children at any given time, from ages 18 months to 21 years of age, which is huge. Huge!”

Ogas, Firefly’s executive director, enthuses. “Not to mention expand our other programs. For the first time, in the after-hours, our new school will become a facility that’ll be used for adults who are being diagnosed on the spectrum later in life. We went from 9,000 clinical square feet to now 30,000 square feet. We’re beyond excited. We’re beside ourselves. Think of the impact we’re going to be able to make.”

The majority of students who come to Firefly Autism are nonverbal, so helping them learn to communicate is a top priority. Every approach is custom-tailored to the student.

Firefly Autism’s new home in Lakewood is slated to open in May

FIREFLY AUTISM EXPANDS TO HELP MORE YOUNG PEOPLE WITH AUTISM REALIZE THEIR POTENTIAL

“When you’ve met a child or an adult with autism, you’ve met a single human being with autism. Worldwide, there is not one case that is alike,” Ogas explains. “So that’s what’s unique about Firefly: we’re a oneon-one model, and we individualize every program around the child or adult specific to their needs.”

A big part of that is using Applied Behavior Analysis, a data-driven scientific methodology. Therapists frequently input data into iPads throughout the

day that is later processed by an app, so they can tailor the next day’s lesson plan based on what worked.

In one success story, a young man who was over 6 feet tall and weighed more than 230 pounds couldn’t tolerate hearing someone cough or clear their throat—to the point of physical aggression. So therapists gradually introduced the sounds in safe environments and the student, who started out non-verbal, learned to verbally alert others that he was

uncomfortable and needed to leave, rather than reacting with violence.

“Communication is the absolute key for a person on the spectrum,” Ogas says. “If you can unleash the potential of a child who is autistic, what they can do is endless.”

Ogas is delighted that the new building is ADA-compliant and has an elevator, which means Firefly will be able to serve students who use wheelchairs. The new location will also offer a full-size gymnasium, three separate playgrounds with sensory equipment to help calm students when they become overstimulated, and a garden to help students learn to grow—and eventually eat— vegetables.

A new program called “Adventures in Inclusion” will partner Firefly students with neurotypical peers, so that the students can learn social skills that will help them adapt when they graduate from Firefly and assimilate into public schools. The neurotypical children can also learn to support their friends with autism.

“What’s so beautiful and significant about the program is the neurotypical children learn how to support their autistic peer in their needs, but they also become the future advo-

“There is hope out there,” he says.

“Whether a family decides to come to Firefly or not, use us. We’re a resource for you. We have a whole list of service providers who we know do great work that we can provide you with.”

The ultimate goal of Firefly’s myriad programs, which also include home-based services, is to help not just the student, but the entire family. Many parents have told Ogas that prior to enrolling a child at Firefly, their family couldn’t eat together in restaurants, and wasn’t invited to birthday parties or neighborhood barbecues. So intervention can have a tremendously positive impact on the entire family by allowing them to start enjoying outings together.

Melinda Paterson, development director for Firefly Autism, says she’s often cried tears of joy from witnessing the remarkable progress of students.

“What I’ve noticed most with the therapists is the love that they give the kids,” she says. “The kids automatically trust them. Therefore, I think their progress is more apt to happen, because they know that they love them. It’s pretty amazing.”

Don’t delay looking into resources, since early intervention is the “absolute key to success” for a child, he advises.

“Autism is a neurological processing disorder, and the brain is malleable between the age of zero and six.

So we can redevelop new channels of processing.”

“In communities of color, so many kids go undiagnosed,” she says. “It’s a lack of resources. It’s a lack of information. It’s a lack of funding.”

Since then, Firefly Autism has helped her 4-year-old grandson Luciano “Bubba” Espinoza-Pagliasotti go from nonverbal to speaking in sentences and understanding concepts.

“The best thing that ever happened to us was connecting with Firefly and because of that, I know Bubba will have a great life—and great quality of life—and will always have a secondary family to lean on even into adulthood,” she says. “I think that’s beautiful.”

Moveable Feast Hutch Supper Club pops up in different locations, offering diners special meals and experiences

A SHARED MEAL IS ALWAYS SOMEthing special, whether with one person across the table, a gathering of old friends or a conclave of new faces meeting each other for the first time.

The Hutch Supper Club celebrates the modern pop-up concept—here today, somewhere else tomorrow— and the almost century-old, private supper club setting that emerged in the 1920s to offer guests a more intimate dining experience.

Chris Jakubiec, chef/owner of the Hutch Supper Club, brings his storied credentials to every meal, pairing inventive tastes and inspired variations on favorite dishes with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. “I was at a point where I wanted to do things on my own and not be tied to a restaurant per se. The pop-up concept gives me the opportunity to express my creativity. I got into this business because I love to cook,” explains Jakubiec. “All chefs are control freaks! With the Supper Club, I don’t have to have brick and mortar. I can do this on my own time and my own terms. It allows me to satisfy my passion for hospitality.”

Most cooking and consuming areas are distinctly different regions within a restaurant. Diners hardly ever have the chance to interact with a chef.

The chef rarely witnesses the pleasure with which the guests accept their plates and savor their first bites. In this expanded role, Jakubiec is on 40

hand to welcome everyone, as well as explain the individual courses. “More often than not, I end up sitting down with the people at the end of the meal,” smiles the former executive chef at Denver’s the ART a hotel and the Michelin-starred Plume at The Jefferson Hotel in Washington, D.C., engaging in quite a different wrap-up

to the evening from his former life as a hotel chef.

The pop-up might take place in a home where the cooking is done with residential appliances, or outdoors or in the professional kitchen of a beyond-hours breakfast or lunch spot that closes long before Jakubiec’s guests are ready to dine. Whatever

the location, Jakubiec displays his fine dining familiarity and expertise when designing each Hutch Supper Club menu and preparing every repast for groups that typically number a dozen to 25 guests. “It isn’t just about the food. I have to own the entire experience,” he emphasizes.

“It’s very personal, making each guest feel special and every event unique.”

With the assistance of his wife, Liz Wegrzyn, a chosen theme carries through the get-together from the décor to the menu to the take-home gift. “One of the best parts of this is being able to work together with Liz on these events. Her creativity has been awesome,” he says, confirming that multiple details like menu artwork originate with Wegrzyn.

The multi-course (generally four to seven) menus feature ingenious, always inventive specialties Chef Jakubiec creates with fresh, seasonal elements. The prix fixe offering may or may not include beverages or chefsuggested wine pairings. More often than not, BYOB is the order of the evening, but there is always a welcome-to-the-party alcohol/non-alcohol libation served as guests gather.

Tantalizing extras, like an amuse bouche, excite anticipation of the deliciousness to come. (Food intolerances are respected by offering an alternative course or incorporating more appropriate ingredients.)

Jakubiec learned to cook from his mom, whose background was in food and beverage. His great-grandfather owned a speakeasy back in the day.

His grandfather, who went by the name Hutch, owned a few bars. Passed down through the generations, a genuine love of preparing and serving food still runs strong and is, according to Jakubiec, a “heart and soul” endeavor.

An after-school devotee of the TV show “Great Chefs of the World,” Jakubiec grew up “idolizing” the culinary masters. He went all out alongside British chef Damon Gordon for 10 years and says French-born Claude Troisgros, who now lives in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, remains one of his favorite chefs to have worked

with. Time spent with Alain Ducasse was memorable.

“I love pretty much every type of food out there: sushi, Thai, Italian,” he notes. “My heart will probably be always rooted in classic French cuisine because I believe in the techniques and flavors.” That’s not to imply a formality to what or the way in which it is served at Jakubiec’s pop-up. Shortseason ramps, morels and nutty-tasting fiddlehead ferns, for example, are around for brief periods of time each year and incorporating these types of lesser known but delectable items into his dishes brings something more intriguing to the table. He is having fun with Hutch Supper Club, which translates well to the food and those fortunate enough to enjoy it.

Marge D. Hansen is a Broomfieldbased writer/editor who agrees with Chef Jakubiec that just about every type of food is to be tasted and the experience appreciated.

CURRIED SWEET POTATO BISQUE MAKES 1 GALLON

1 medium yellow onion, sliced ¼ cup garlic cloves 3 tbs vegetable or grapeseed oil 3-4 medium sweet potatoes, peeled and cut into large dice 3-4 tbs curry powder 4 quarts cold water or vegetable stock Sea salt and pepper In a large stockpot over medium heat, sweat the onion and garlic in canola oil until translucent, about 7-10 minutes.

Adjust heat as necessary to avoid caramelizing. Add the sweet potato and season with salt and pepper. Sweat lightly, about 5-7 minutes. Add the curry powder, stir and toast until curry is fragrant. Deglaze with water or stock, bring to a boil and reduce to a simmer.

Cook for 25-30 minutes or until sweet potatoes are tender and start falling apart. Blend thoroughly on high in blender until smooth, adding liquid from pot to adjust consistency. Adjust seasoning as necessary to taste and cool in an ice bath until soup reaches 40 F. Store refrigerated in an airtight container.

To serve: Heat soup. Top with 1 tbs of seasoned sour cream, 1tbs of chopped bacon and 1tsp chopped chives.

ROASTED SALMON WITH SUMMER VEGETABLE HASH, GRAIN MUSTARD HOLLANDAISE AND HERBS SERVES 6

1 zucchini, cut in ½-inch cubes 1 cup green beans, cut in ½-inch cubes 1 summer squash, cut in ½-inch cubes 1 pint heirloom cherry tomatoes, halved or quartered 1 eggplant, cut in ½-inch cubes 1 cup white wine vinegar 2 medium shallots, sliced, and 1 medium shallot, finely diced 2 tbs chopped parsley, plus 6 sprigs 6 sprigs tarragon 4 sprigs cilantro 4 sprigs dill ¼ bunch chives 3 tbs plus 2 tsp olive oil 3 cloves garlic, peeled and crushed 3 sprigs thyme 2 egg yolks 3 tbs tepid water 1 lb butter (or ½ cup ghee, warmed) 2 tbs grain mustard, room temperature 1½ lb salmon fillet, preferably center cut, scaled with skin 2-3 tbs vegetable oil Sea salt and pepper To prepare the vegetables for the hash, bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Prepare an ice bath. Blanch first the zucchini for about 1 minute, remove with a skimmer and transfer to ice bath.

When the water returns to a boil, repeat with green beans. Once cooled, remove from ice bath, drain on a paper towel and set aside. Place the eggplant in a colander or strainer and season with salt to draw out oxalic acid. Let sit 30 minutes, rinse and pat dry. Set aside.

To clarify the butter, place butter in a small saucepan and slowly bring to a simmer, skimming the “foam” that rises to the top. You will notice that as you remove the foam, the butter begins to clarify.

Once the butter is clear, slowly pour into a 42

bowl, trying to avoid pouring out the water and any solids that have fallen to the bottom of the pan. Keep slightly warm.

To prepare the vinegar reduction for the hollandaise, combine white wine vinegar, shallots, 2 tarragon sprigs and a pinch of salt in a small saucepan.

Reduce by about half to two-thirds. Set aside to cool. Once somewhat cooled, remove the tarragon sprigs.

THE HERBS Pick the leaves from the

6 sprigs parsley, 4 sprigs tarragon, cilantro and dill. Chop half the chives and set aside. Cut the remining chives into 2-inch lengths. Wash well and set aside covered with a damp paper towel.

VEGETABLE HASH Heat a large sauté pan over medium-high heat and add 3 tbs olive oil. Add the eggplant, garlic cloves and thyme sprigs. Season with salt and pepper and sauté about 5 minutes or until the eggplant begins to brown and soften. Add the yellow squash and sauté until almost tender. Add the zucchini and the green beans and sauté. Add the tomatoes, season all with salt and pepper, and cook until most of the liquid from the tomatoes has evaporated.

Remove from heat and add the chopped parsley and chives. Check and adjust seasoning as necessary.

HOLLANDAISE Prepare a double boilerlarge saucepan over medium-low heat with about 2 inches of simmering water and a large bowl set over top. Add the egg yolks, water and the vinegar and shallot reduction to the bowl. Whisk

constantly with a balloon whisk in a figure-8 motion until thick and ribbon-like (sabayon), about 8-12 minutes. Starting with small amounts of clarified butter or ghee at a time, incorporate into sabayon, adding more only once it is fully emulsified. Once about half of the butter is incorporated, begin adding larger amounts of butter. If the sauce starts to get too thick like mayonnaise, add another teaspoon of warm water to thin slightly. Mix in grain mustard, check and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.

Keep warm.

SALMON Cut the salmon fillet into 6 equal portions. Pat the skin dry with a paper towel. Season salmon portions generously with salt and pepper. Heat a large nonstick sauté pan over high heat. Add the vegetable oil and once the oil is “shimmering” (not smoking) begin gently adding the salmon portions, skin-side down, laying them away from you. Do not crowd the pan; sear in 2 batches if necessary. Adjust heat to medium so as not to burn skin. Cook until skin is slightly golden brown and crispy. Flip over and cook the other side about 30 seconds. Transfer to a sheet tray with a rack, skin-side up.

TO SERVE Place salmon in the oven for about 4-8 minutes or until desired temperature. Reheat the hash if necessary. Toss the picked herbs in a bowl with remaining olive oil and season with salt and pepper. Spoon the hash onto a plate.

Top with the salmon and spoon some hollandaise on the plate around the hash.

Top the salmon with the dressed herbs.

The East Club was transformed to ensure that all guests felt like they were ‘glamping’ in Colorado including glamp-site tents and Campfire Concierges. The upscale menu was presented in a variety of ways, including hanging orbs in trees and a conveyer belt for dessert. Upon exiting, guests received warm hot chocolate and blankets.

Inspired by a plate of ombre’d sliced tomatoes they were served five years ago, this chic couple requested a 35th birthday celebration worthy of total shock and awe from their guests. Combining their love of traditional family-style dining and cutting-edge design, planners crafted a 20-foot by 25-foot 50-person table for all of the guests to sit around. The custom color-wheel inspired floral and candle centerpiece consisted of 300 bud vases and 150 custom-made candles. The six-course meal consisted of custom recipes inspired by orange, red, yellow, green, blue and purple.

At the wedding of Ali and Ryan, white-on-white contemporary elegance was the backdrop for the joining together of two loving families. Oversized modern paper flowers along with stunning florals adorned every part of the space, mixed with traditional elements such as a Jewish prayer shawl on the wedding canopy. Transforming a working horse barn into a wedding venue infused character and charm into this romantic wedding. Honoring the history and heritage of the location, an equine-centric theme was brought to life in all elements.

The sumptuous color palette and floral decor ranged from citrus orange hues to a tomato red providing brilliance and dimension, creating an early fall, garden-like feeling. Trophy chalices, urns and ribbons won by past residents of the farm created centerpieces and design elements. The experience continued through dinner where guests were seated at intimate tables within the actual horse stalls of the stables, while an enchanting family farm table ran the length of the barn’s center aisle. Following dinner, the group moved from the barn to a clear-roof tent adorned with lights for an evening of country tunes as guests kicked off their boots and danced into the night.

Lauren and Walker celebrated their wedding at Dairy Block in downtown Denver, with a reception at Union Station, one of Denver’s most iconic and historic landmarks.

The bride chose a palette of rich tones in green, blue, cinnamon, apricot, and charcoal floral for her bridesmaids’ dresses and flowers. Dairy Block was adorned with vibrant jewel-toned florals. During cocktail hour, guests mingled while an electric string quartet provided music. The reception guest list topped 450 people, and they all danced the night away. The night finished with a fantastic dessert spread—wedding cake and a groom’s cake fashioned after a Colorado Rockies baseball hat.

The Romantic Loire Valley Tour of chateaux and gardens brings France’s rich history to life

E

ENTHUSIASTS HAVE USED MANY epithets to describe France’s Loire Valley including “Land of a Thousand Chateaux” and “Garden of France.” However, there’s another even more befitting one: “The Center of Romance.” The Loire is situated approximately 100 miles from Paris in the heart of the country. It was a playground for kings and courtesans over many centuries, and a cast of legendary characters such as Joan of Arc, the Musketeers and the Knights Templar appeared on center stage.

My husband and I spent nearly two weeks exploring byways that meander along the Loire River, which flows at a leisurely pace through a valley rife with life. We toured the verdant countryside and colorful gardens that are a feast for the eyes, and sampled the fresh local produce,

I could almost feel the ghosts of the past in the valley’s rich history, which is why the region between Sully-sur-Loire and Chalonnes has been designated a UNESCO historic site. Along this route lies the hamlet of Orleans, where Joan of Arc started her meteoric rise after she freed the city from the British. Medieval warlords used nearby Angers as a power base before it become a Plantagenet stronghold in the 12th century. The city boasts a fortress with 17 round towers that guard an inner village including a chateau and unusual geometric garden.

Much of the Loire’s enchanting character comes from the many other chateaus which range from lovely mansions to enormous castles.

These are remnants of an epic centuries-long one-upmanship played by nobility. François I commissioned the most ostentatious, Chateau de Chambord, in 1516. Once he determined to build a hunting lodge, something simple would not suffice—especially since he wanted to outshine the Holy Roman Emperor.

François’s 426-room abode houses 77 staircases (Leonardo da Vinci is believed to have designed the central, double-spiraled one) and 282 fireplaces. With its plentiful cupolas, gables and chimneys, the rooftop of Chambord looks more like a downtown skyline than a single structure.

Chambord’s near neighbor, Chateau de Cheverny, is a stunning artifice built in the early 17th century on lands bequeathed by Henri II to his mistress, Diane de Poitiers.

She favored Chateau de Chenonceau—which is 25 miles west—and sold the property to the family who built Cheverny and has lived there for nearly seven centuries. The structure features just one architectural style rather than the cobbled look of many castles.

why de Poitiers loved it. She added the elegant arched bridge that gives the castle its unique profile. However, when Henri II died, his widow Catherine dé Medici exacted her revenge by seizing the chateau from her rival. Medici spent a fortune at Chenonceau, building a three story-structure on top of de Poitiers’

bridge, hosting lavish parties and shooting off France’s first display of fireworks for her son’s coronation.

My favorite chateaus were those entwined with classic tales, such as Chateau de Montsoreau. Built in the 15th century, it was the site of a love triangle featured in one of Alexandre Dumas’ novels. Comte D’artagnan,

de Fontevraud will notice even the abbesses couldn’t resist one-upmanship. Many of them painted themselves into the wall murals—right over their rivals’ figures. The Abbey is the largest preserved monastic site in Europe and houses a hotel and restaurant, helmed by a Michelin-starred chef.

Many of these chateaus and other historic monuments were built using a soft local limestone. As

workers quarried the white tufa, they left behind a labyrinth of caves, covering thousands of miles. Dwellers discovered the tunnels were efficient year-round and offered protection not just from the elements, but also from enemies—resulting in entire underground villages.

Today some of the troglodyte caves have been repurposed as businesses.

Vintners, such as Domaine de la Chevalerie in Restigné, take advantage of the cool, damp tunnels to store wines and offer tastings. Other local businesses also use the cavities for artistic purposes. The mushroom farm Cave des Roches in Bourré has carved an underground village scene straight from the Middle Ages into the porous rock. Deep in Ackerman’s sparkling wine cellar, a unique “art gallery” depicts scenes from Jules Verne’s “A Journey to the Centre of the Earth.”

Affairs to Remember Colorado Party Rentals has everything you need for hosting a great event

THERE ARE A LOT OF MOVING parts when planning an event—any event. From a small meeting that requires 20 chairs to a lavish experience that requires construction, Colorado Party Rentals is up for the challenge.

Long-time event industry veterans Doug Schroeder and Dan Minehane founded Colorado Party Rentals in 2006 and made their name in the tent and party rental space. However, the businesses remained fairly flat in terms of revenue; in 2015, they sold the business to Nathan Pearse.

Pearse is the fourth generation of entrepreneurs in his family. He and his father bought a packaged ice company in Colorado and, after growing and selling that business, they were on the lookout for a new venture when they found Colorado Party Rentals.

At first, it seemed like a stretch.

But Pearse knew that with his energy, leadership style, and some capital, CPR could grow. And it has: Since Pearse purchased it, CPR has grown 300 percent from a $2 million company to an $8 million regional player in the event space. “We went from a true party rental company,

which is … tables, chairs, the basic stuff, to really becoming an event company,” Pearse said. “We’re doing the highest of high-end weddings, not just in Colorado or not just in Denver, but even throughout the Rocky Mountains.”

reputation to get it done and get it done very well, and customer service. Pearse wants each customer to have an enjoyable experience with CPR, whether it’s a wedding or a birthday party in the backyard.

It might be difficult to convey a lot of passion for renting 20 chairs, but Pearse said that every order is important. Showing up on time (or early), communicating with clients, providing a fair price and ensuring that the client gets what they asked for all contribute to CPR’s success.

In short, not only meeting expectations but exceeding them.

One of the biggest events that CPR created was a wedding last year at a private residence in Castle Rock.

In addition to a tent for 300 guests, CPR built a dance floor on the sloped backyard that, at its highest, was nine feet above the ground. For the catering, CPR provided a full cook tent with grills, ovens, cooktops, refrigerators and all of the other

essentials for the culinary portion of the event. Cocktail hour took place in a separate, clear-top tent filled with lounge pieces from CPR. This space, complete with cozy couches, pillows, rugs, and various conversation spaces, is becoming de rigueur for weddings; it’s a trend that Pearse said will continue through 2020.

“We have designers on staff,” Pearse explained. “And they can help select items. We’re not just talking about tables and chairs, but we’re talking about, ‘Hey, I want to create a really cool event where it’s more of a cocktail hour and I don’t want to do the traditional cocktail tables with linen.’ We can create seating groups and very trendy couches and chairs and side tables and all that stuff.”

This is not your typical rental furniture. Instead, Pearse said he attends furniture design shows to find items that would be on display at West Elm, Restoration Hardware

or Williams-Sonoma. Whether it’s an area for the groom to enjoy a cigar or a comfortable spot for congregating with a cocktail prior to dinner, the vignettes and groupings that CPR creates are modern and fashionable.

For those with a specific vision, CPR will do everything in its power to make that idea come to life—even if it means building it. CPR has a workshop for custom orders from bars to farm tables and almost anything else a customer can imagine.

“A lot of people come to us with an inspiration board from Pinterest or (elsewhere) … and they say, ‘you don’t have this and nobody else has it. Can you make this for me?’” Pearse said.

“We’re not going to just say no.”
