Only one Jefferson County race held any suspense in the June 28 primaries — the Republican contest for Colorado’s 7th District Congressional seat being vacated by U.S. Rep. Ed Perlmutter. Brittany Pettersen, who currently serves as District 22 state senator, ran unopposed for the Democratic nomination. She will be facing Republican Erik Aadland, who defeated challengers Laurel Imer and Tim Reichert in unofficial election results posted after polls closed June 28. According to his website, Aadland, a West Point graduate, served for nine years in the U.S. Army, including two tours in the Middle East where he was awarded two Bronze Stars. His official biography said he then went on to pursue a career in the oil and gas industry. His website is unclear about how long he’s been a resident of the district, but his LinkedIn page states that he was employed by Houston, Texas,-based Noble Energy from 2011-2020 where he worked multiple stints working in various aspects of energy production in Colorado. Aadland bested Reichert by eight percentage points — roughly 4,200 votes. Imer finished a distant third with slightly less than 16% of the total vote. As of 8 p.m. June 28, voter turnout was at nearly 27%, lower than the 2020 primary election, which saw 48% of voters cast ballots. For full results, visit jeffco.us/578/Election-Results.
