Hundreds of local egg-splorers braved chilly temperatures as they made their way to downtown Golden for the annual Kiwanis Club Easter egg hunt. The traditional springtime ritual was held at 10 a.m. April 16 in Parfet Park, and marked the event’s return after a two-year pandemic hiatus. Armed with baskets, grocery sacks and even plastic jack-o’-lanterns, eager youngsters scurried over rocks and around shrubs, SEE EGGS, P6

Close to 70 members of the community gathered April 13 at the Fossil Trace Golf Club for the first State of the City Address in four years. Hosted by the Golden Chamber of Commerce, Golden Mayor Laura Weinberg and Acting City Manager Carly Lorentz walked guests through a list of accomplishments during one of the most challenging times in the history of the city. “Typically, a state of the city address covers the past year and the city’s accomplishments, but this morning I want to talk about the last two years in Golden,” Weinberg said in her first state of the city address as mayor. Although the pandemic brought many complications, Winberg said the city was able to gather resources and help those in need. A slick video presentation showcased those efforts. Weinberg gave a quick rundown of the city’s major accomplishments for 2021. They include: • $124,000 in rent grants awarded by the Downtown Development Authority to 60 downtown businesses • A $50,000 grant from the state provided funding for the Miners Alley lighting project, placing string lighting from 11th Street to 13th Street • $100,000 grant from the Colorado Department of Transportation, along with SEE GOLDEN, P8
