Members of a local grassroots environmental group opposing an expanded mining operation north of the city have caught another break. Protect the Hogback was recently notified that a hearing and final decision by the state on the Denver Brick Company’s application to convert its existing mine permit from a 110 Limited Impact permit to a 112 Reclamation Permit has been delayed for the third time. In a letter to the Colorado Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety, Environmental Alternatives, Inc. requested the decision date for the mining permit be delayed from March 31 to May 31, 2022. No reason was given in the letter.
