The streets of Olde Town abounded with the sound of bouncy brass music and revelers enjoying New Orleans-inspired drinks and cuisine as Arvada held its 4th Annual Mardi Gras celebration on March 1. Restaurants in Olde Town gave visitors a taste of New Orleans with topical specials including gumbo, po’boys and king cakes. The Guerrilla Fanfare Brass Band marched up and down Wadsworth as a crowd of merrymakers followed the funk from storefront to storefront as part of the evening’s town crawl. Olde Town Arvada Business Improvement District Executive Director Joe Hengstler said this year’s Fat Tuesday festivities were a hit among attendees and the businesses that participated – in part due to the street closures. “We were thrilled to see the SEE CELEBRATE, P2

Suspect in Arvada DoorDash shooting in custody; shot by Denver police officer during arrest Initial incident occurred on Feb. 27 leaving one victim with superficial injuries, suspect apprehended on March 2 BY RYLEE DUNN RDUNN@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM
The suspect in a shooting that took place in Arvada on Feb.
27 was apprehended in Denver on March 2 and was shot by a Denver police officer during his arrest. The victim in the initial shooting was a DoorDash driver making a delivery in Arvada; he suffered superficial wounds and was treated at the scene and is believed to be in stable condition. 36-year-old Vincent Anthony Martinez was identified as the suspect in the case and Arvada Police Department Public Information Officer Dave Snelling confirmed on March 3 that
Martinez is alive and, in the hospital, getting treatment for his injuries. On Feb. 27 at around 9 p.m., a DoorDash driver was making a delivery to an apartment located at 7131 West 84th Way. The delivery driver double-parked his car in front of a white sedan which was reported stolen. When the delivery driver parked, he exchanged words with a man sitting in the white sedan. After the delivery driver made his delivery, he exited the apartment complex and returned to
his car. The suspect, since identified as Martinez, was waiting in his car when the delivery driver came out of the building. Martinez then allegedly fired a handgun round at the delivery driver, described as a “grazing wound” to the face by Snelling. Martinez then allegedly fled the scene. The DoorDash driver was treated by Arvada Fire paramedics at the scene. “(The delivery driver) double parked and apparently this guy SEE SUSPECT, P3
