In adopting its 2021-2022 budget, the Weld Re-8 board of education had to dip into more than $2 million of what’s called a beginning fund balance so it could adopt a balanced budget. State law allows school boards to use those funds as long as the purpose and amounts are clear and that the use doesn’t lead to an ongoing deficit.
