Two 16-year-olds suspected of killing an Englewood man in October are being prosecuted as adults. Raheem Vaughn Benson, of Littleton, and Louis Fernando Lara-Macias, of Englewood, both face murder charges in connection with the death of Nicholas Lewis, according to a news release from the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office. Lewis, 33, a chef at the Blackbird Public House restaurant in Denver, was shot to death a little after 8:30 p.m. on Oct. 1 in the 3000 block of South Acoma Street, about a block from his home. He reportedly was walking home from the 7-Eleven at Broadway and Dartmouth. Lewis was the father of an 8-yearold son. Benson and Lara-Macias are scheduled to appear in court Nov. 28 to be advised of the charges against them. According to the district attorney’s news release, those charges include: • First-degree murder after deliberation • First-degree felony murder • Conspiracy to commit first-degree murder • Attempted aggravated robbery The two suspects were already in police custody on other charges when they were arrested Oct. 21 on suspicion of killing Lewis.
