Anderson, Harmon to be seated on Lone Tree council BY MCKENNA HARFORD MHARFORD@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM

Lone Tree has canceled its second city council election in a row, after only two candidates filed to run for the two open seats. Current District 2 Council Member Mike Anderson and former planning commission member Marissa Harmon, who will represent District 1, will be sworn in during the May 17 meeting.

Jay Carpenter, the current council member for District 1, said he is not seeking a second term because he wants to spend more time with his family. Carpenter endorsed Anderson Harmon to fill his seat. Councilmembers can serve a maximum of two consecutive fouryear terms. They represent one of two districts while the mayor

serves at-large. District 1 comprises portions of western and southwestern Lone Tree, and District 2 encompasses the northern, eastern and southeastern portions of the city. Harmon The last contested election in Lone Tree took place in 2018, when Anderson first ran for his seat against Kevin Spencer and won 397-223. Outside of that con-

test, Lone Tree’s council member and mayor elections have only had one candidate per open seat since at least 2016. For her part, Harmon said she decided to run to provide the perspective of a local business owner. She owns Roots and Mane Salon. Harmon emphasized that she hopes to be a voice for residents on the council and connect with SEE COUNCIL, P6

and two occupants of the aircraft safely exited but sustained minor injuries and were transported to an area hospital, according to South Metro Fire Rescue. “The two people on the plane

exited on their own, were walking and talking with (emergency) responders,” said Eric Hurst, spokesperson for South Metro Fire. “Their injuries were classified as minor and non-life threatening.” SEE PLANE CRASH, P8

In what one director described as “a historic moment,” the Douglas County School Board approved a long-awaited new compensation system for licensed employees in hopes of boosting teacher pay and making DCSD more competitive with neighboring districts. That includes three new step-andlane salary schedules that staff say will correct pay gaps, better honor educational attainment, be more transparent and more predictable for staff. There are approximately 3,500 licensed employees, including teachers. But the plan could be seen as a gamble, too, as the district will run out of enough revenue to fund the system after the 2023-24 school year if voters SEE SCHOOLS, P6
