STEM School Highlands Ranch announced three finalist candidates for the
head role of the Douglas County charter school with a chance for parents and students to meet them this Friday. Two of the candidates are
already serving at STEM, with Ryan Alsup, high school director and athletics director, and LynAnn Kovalesky, elementary school director and a leader in building parent trust, named as finalists. The third finalist, Leanne Weyman,
who serves as the regional vice president for ACCEL Schools in Ohio and has a PhD in education, previously spent time as the director for STEM, on top of other administrative roles at the school. Candidates will take part
in a meet and greet at 3:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the STEM elementary school gym, where they’ll share about themselves and answer questions from the community. Current STEM Executive SEE STEM, P23

Years of planning efforts for the Highlands Ranch Senior Center are beginning to wrap up as metro district officials prepare to bid construction out this summer with the hope of breaking ground in the fall. Designs are in the process of being finalized for the 20,000 square foot community center for people over 55 on Highlands Ranch Parkway next to Mountainview Christian Church. The center will include space for a Douglas County human services satellite office, a fitness area, meeting rooms, a large kitchen and more. Highlands Ranch Metro District General Manager Mike Renshaw said the goal is not to replicate existing services provided by either the metro district or the Highlands Ranch Community Association, which operates the local recreation centers, but to expand and complement those offerings.

It was March 30 and Kane was poised to sign a contract that day to become Douglas County Schools’ next superintendent.
