Roedel ends prep basketball career BY STEVE SMITH SSMITH@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM

PUEBLO -- Kobe Roedel’s last basketball game on behalf of Fort Lupton High School took him to the campus of Colorado State University-Pueblo just before the Fourth of July. Roedel was among more than 40 players from across the state who participated in the Colorado High School Coaches Association all-state basketball games. All are seniors. “The overall experience was a very fun time,” Roedel said. “I got to meet people from all over Colorado that share the same passion for basketball as me. I also got to see kids I grew up playing against and with at the games.” Players from the smallest schools in the state to the biggest schools in the state were on the same team. “We had two practices, which were basically just scrimmages with the other

teams,” Roedel said. “We installed one out-of-bounds play, and that’s it. On offense, we just read and reacted.” FLHS was 10-4 during a pandemic-shortened season, 5-1 in the Colorado League. The Bluedevils just missed out on a berth to the state 3A basketball playoffs. Roedel averaged five points, three rebounds and three assists per game. “It took a little bit to bond. But we all eventually did and got pretty close,” Roedel said. “It was a very competitive event -- full of a lot of talented players from all over.” Roedel is planning to attend Colorado Mesa University. “The experience taught me a lot about having to meet new people and find ways to connect with them,” he said. “I’m not playing basketball at Mesa. I am just going to school and that this finished my high-school career.”
