After months of anticipation, Englewood now has more options than it did at the beginning of the year for anyone seeking quality caffeine, tasty treats and hip hangouts. Newcomer Mango Tree Coffee and veteran Nixon’s Coffee each welcomed the public to their beautifully remodeled spaces in July. “We’ve had so many people just stop in when we were doing construction and say how excited they are that we’re opening,” Marc Corona, general manager of Mango Tree Coffee, said in an interview. Englewood to hold variety of events through end of year City’s 2021 gatherings continue with annual Block Party, Halloween giveaway BY ELLIS ARNOLD EARNOLD@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM

Englewood residents have gathered throughout this summer at the city’s “SunSET Summer” concert series near city hall and the Englewood light rail station. And even though summer is winding down, the city still has a long list of events in store that will run into December.

Englewood candidate list finalized

Here’s a look at the rest of this year’s events organized or promoted by the City of Englewood. Movie in the Park The second of two “Movies in the Park” events takes place on Sept. 3. It’s a showing of “Babe” at Belleview Park on the Jack Poole Field — with “special guests from the Englewood Farm,” the city’s website says. Silent Disco The Englewood Silent Disco allows you to pick the music you want to dance to and listen as loud as you want. (At silent discos, people hear music through wireless headphones.) For those who don’t feel like dancing, the event also offers

Neighborhood Rehab Project Day of Service You can volunteer to give back to your community by making sure homes are warm, safe and dry for those in need. The “Be a Tool” event takes place Sept. 11. Candidates for Englewood City Council have filed their petitions and the race has begun. Four seats on the seven-member council are on the ballot, but only two are contested in the Nov. 2 election. In District 2, Chelsea Nunnenkamp is running uncontested for the seat currently held by Linda Olson since 2009. Olson, the current mayor, is term-limited. Two candidates, Steven Ward and Belinda Porter, are vying for the District 4 seat. Dave Cuesta, who was elected that district’s councilmember in 2017, is not running for another term. Ward, however, has been serving as an at-large member of the council since March 15, filling the seat vacated earlier that month by John Stone. Cheryl Wink is running uncontested to keep the at-large seat she has held since 2017. The election is for a four-year term. A two-year at-large position will also be on the ballot this fall (it is the second half of Stone’s vacated term). Mary Colecchi and Jim Woodward are the candidates for that city council seat.
