On Oct. 12, the Town of Elizabeth Board of Trustees dubbed Elizabeth’s downtown park off of Highway 86 “Running Creek Park” after the creek that works its way through the town. In August, the board agreed to ask the public for naming suggestions for the event park at 500 E. Kiowa Ave. The town received 18 submissions through email, drop box and in-office. The 18 suggestions, some of which were submitted with detailed reasoning as to why the name would be a good fit for the park, are: Elizabeth Event Park; The Old Corn Patch; Elizabeth on the Green; The Flats at Elizabeth; Weber Park; Russellville Range; Running Creek Event Park; Deer Haven; Preble Park; Clay Hurst Park; Hayfield Park; Sapiah Park; Elizabeth Community Park; Preble’s Trailside Park; Hurst Park; Prairie-Lands Event Center; Pasture Park; and Independence Plaza. “I’m going to suggest ‘The Old Corn Patch’ for the farmer’s market space,” said an anonymous writer in an email submission from Sept. 9. “Long ago, for a number of years, that field was in continuous use as a corn field, which I thought was pretty cool being right in town.” “I would like to submit the name SEE PARK, P16
