One candidate called it the race of a lifetime. And after months of
simmering tension within the electorate, the Douglas County School Board election did indeed draw national attention as it became another contest defined by COVID mask-mandate disputes and critical race theory, or CRT. Who will be Castle Pines’ next mayor continued to be up in the air at press time, with just a few dozen votes separating the three candidates several days after the election ended Nov. 2. As of Nov. 8, Councilmember Tracy Engerman was narrowly leading with 1,742 votes, followed by current Mayor Tera Radloff with 1,716 and David McEntire, who is currently the president of the Castle Pines North Metro District, with 1,637. On Nov. 5, Douglas County election officials said they still had nearly 400 Castle Pines ballots to count and verify in the close race. And on Nov. 8, Castle Pines Town Clerk Tobi Duffey said a winner is likely to be decided by Nov. 12. Duffey said election officials are currently going through ballots with questionable signatures, giving voters until Nov. 12 to fix the issues for their votes to be counted. On election night, McEntire took a slim lead that he kept until Nov. 4. With tallies updated early evening SEE MAYOR, P3
