Culex mosquitoes have tested positive for West Nile in Weld County in areas of Greeley, Evans, Kersey, and Lasalle, according to the Weld County Department of Health and Environment. “The increasing hot weather and afternoon thundershowers have created favorable conditions for the Culex mosquito that carries West Nile Virus,” Mark Lawley, executive Director of the Weld County Health Department said in a written statement. According to officials, three times more Culex mosquitoes have been trapped in 2021 than in previous years, based on an analysis of five years worth of testing.
