Theft from kids leads to ‘community coming together’ Family sees donations, gives proceeds to police union BY ELLIS ARNOLD EARNOLD@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM
Eleven-year-old Asher Swann often sells ice pops in his west Centennial neighborhood in the summer with his younger brother. After Swann sold the frozen treats at a recent soccer event at Cherry Knolls Park in the Southglenn neighborhood, he told his brother to take their wagon under a tree. “When we came back, there was no cooler, and the money is gone,” Swann said. His 6-year-old brother was shocked. His parents helped him file a police report, and Arapahoe County sheriff’s Deputy Bryan Teany came to the family’s home and talked to the kids about what happened. Swann’s mother put out information about the theft on the SEE COMMUNITY, P2
Arapahoe warns neighbor of possible legal action over Tri-County exit BY ELLIOTT WENZLER AND ELLIS ARNOLD EARNOLD@COLORADOCOMMUNITYMEDIA.COM
A data center is a large group of networked computer servers typically used for the remote storage, processing or distribution of large amounts of data. Ting held a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Aug. 19 for the Ting Data Center, which sits along Broncos Parkway near Potomac Street in central Centennial, near the Dove Valley area. Ting is in negotiations with several cities around the south metro area to expand its “highspeed internet footprint,” said
Arapahoe County’s threat of possible legal action over Douglas County’s plans to pull out of the publichealth agency serving both counties appears to hinge on whether the exit causes costly disruptions to existing health programs in Arapahoe County’s budget. Arapahoe County Attorney Ron Carl sent the warning to his Douglas County counterpart in a Sept. 3 letter. The letter came in the wake of Dougco’s moves to leave the TriCounty Health Department — which serves both counties as well as Adams County — and form its own health agency, largely over longstanding objections to Tri-County’s COVID-safety orders. Arapahoe is asking Douglas to “slow the pace so all the stakeholders — the three counties plus TriCounty — can make any necessary transitions more efficiently and effectively, and so we can properly assess the cost and process of what we need to do next,” said Luc Hatlestad, spokesperson for Arapahoe County. “The reason this partnership has lasted 55 years is because, in part, we were able to share costs, and obviously that would change if we went

Potential costs of Dougco health pullout worry Arapahoe
“Ting continues to grow, thus bringing more jobs to the community. The data center houses over 20 employees working directly in the Centennial neighborhoods,” said Mark Gotto, the company’s city manager for Centennial. Ting Internet, a division of tech company Tucows, first introduced its fiber internet to Centennial in 2018 and has been expanding service to more local residents and businesses, according to a news release. Internet that works via fiber-optic cable brings faster speed than other types of internet service.
