Chapter 1
Kay and Aiden run the school blog.
What will be in next week’s blog?
I met the singer of that band last year.
Can you help us to meet them?
Then we can talk to them for the blog –and join the band!
Join the band? You mean spoil the band.
Don’t sneer! I wouldn’t spoil the music.
What would you want to play?
My recorder.
I have set up a meeting.
The twins attend the show with their dad.
Hi, we’re here to meet Sheer Joy.
We don’t want to annoy you, but can we check your list?
No. Step aside, boy.
Roy, we need you here.
We are so near. Let’s sneak in.
We cannot wander in.
Did you see his sneer? He won’t let us meet Sheer Joy.
She looks cheerful. She might let us in.
This is Walter. He will take you to the band.
Hi, Walter.
Hi, kids. The band is just setting up. Come and see!
Here’s Zoya, the drummer.
This is Sameer. She’s so loud!
He broke the strings!
I don’t see Dad but look at that gleaming trumpet!
It’s like gold.
It’s not a toy. It costs a lot, almost the same as a car.
We’ve run out of time. You can talk to the band after the show.
That’s how they will cheer when I start my musical career.
Where could it be?
A thief must have taken it when the lights were off!
Can we find out the name of the thief?
Malloy?
He was not near. She appeared to be cool.
Did you shout “ow” when it was dark?
Yes. A person pushed past me and went that way.
Let’s peer into that room.
You can come and collect it now. Bring cash.
Chapter 5
The next day
The Sheer Joy show had just started –
when the gold trumpet was stolen.
The thief wanted to sell it –
but we spoiled his plan!
