Reflection On English Course
After taking the University English course for a semester, I realize the course content is different from my anticipation but it is much more useful than what I expected. The aspects that I would like to improve in this course including my speaking, reading and writing skills. As the course mainly focus on the writing part, I find it really helpful and practical for my subsequent studies. Especially for the sentence structures part, which is also the main improvement I would like get from this course, it really inspires me a lot. I hoped I could master the use of different sentence structures because my previous writings were limited in some simple and dull structures, making my writing mediocre. After participating in this course, I really gain a lot. Many unclear concepts in sentence patterns that I have had since my secondary school are cleared now. For instance, in making some complex sentences, I always make grammatical mistakes and use erroneous subjects but do not know why they are wrongly used. The...show more content... For example, I intended to answer and ask questions frequently in the lessons. However, when I evaluate my performance in this semester, I discover I was diligent in the first few lessons but was not absorbed in the subsequent lessons due to the heavy workload of other subjects. I will try my best not to be a deadline fighter in next semester so that I can enjoy and focus on the lessons. Apart from improving my English through this course, I planned to do some actions in my daily lives in order to achieve my English goals. For example, I decided to read more English books and newspapers. It was difficult for me to read the whole books so I changed to watch English films and videos with English subtitles. Also, I read BBC News in the website twice a week. I found my English becomebetter as I knew more vocabularies and my reading speed became

Since beginning to write papers in English class, I have had countless successes and failures. While many of my English classes have taught me how to improve my writing, I have not learned very much in others. My most recent English class was last year, my sophomore year. My class was particularly undersized; therefore, it gave each student the opportunity to have additional individual attention. Throughout the class I experienced high points, weaknesses, and even difficulties that I never overcame. Overall, my writing skills improved, but only marginally. One of the high points of the class was consistently making high A's. We wrote a variety of different types of papers, and my grade was always respectable. Succeeding in this class made me feel adequately prepared to write proper papers. Although I made impressive grades for the class, I was able to do so with only minimal effort. Therefore, I knew I could execute my papers better. The quality of my writing seemed to stay stagnant over the course of the year. This class would have been exponentially more beneficial had it challenged me to improve my writing, however it never did. Although I was not overly challenged in my last English class, I have several weaknesses as a writer. My biggest weakness is neglecting to ask important questions that could improve my writing. One of the most problematic difficulties I faced and am still facing is self–revision. When writing a paper, it is extremely important to revise your essay multiple times before submitting the final version. Every revision helps to build a more polished essay. I feel that my paper fails to progress enough from the rough draft to the final. To fix this, I need to give myself longer breaks between revising. Becoming skilled at revising my own papers will allow me to develop into a more competent, successful

English 101
October 19, 2016 Reflection Paper
It's hard to believe that it's already time for Midterms in my English 101 class. The adventure has been a lot easier than I at first anticipated. In any case, I am happy that I am taking the class and learning from it. In the beginning it appeared somewhat hard however I was resolved to compel my way through this class regardless of what difficulties I needed to persevere.
On the first day of my English 101 class I was apprehensive, I had no clue what's in store from the class. As I discovered what the class would have been similar to, I let myself know I was going to attempt to get an B or higher toward the end of the semester and put all the exertion I had into each paper I kept in touch with, I was not going to set this class aside for later and linger like I use to do. A standout amongst the most troublesome...show more content...
I have an unmistakable view in my head of what I am going to compose and what structures I have to utilize. These aptitudes may empower me to enjoy additionally composing and not need to stress over having a written assignment. This course has helped me with many chances to figure out how to properly write papers. Prior to this class, I had little experience with how to build a legitimate paper. It has taken experience, and getting normal evaluations, to show me how to precisely write. Despite the fact that this course required different papers to be turned in, I am appreciative to have possessed the capacity to gain from my oversights and develop as a writer. I have constantly cherished written work, however now I am ready to improve mywriting as the semester

As the Fall 2017 term comes to end, I look back on what I have accomplished in this class. English 102 – Composition II was one of the most challenging and toughest class I have taken at UW–Stout, but feel as though it has helped me to improve my writing skills. Even before the semester started the feeling of anxiety had taken over, as writing has never been my strongest skill, but stayed positive and confident I would be successful. Much to my surprise, my instructor, Michael Critchfield quickly addressed that this class would not be easy and amazingly changed my views of writing throughout the entire semester. During this semester, the realization of my past was that I have often skimmed through parts of the writing process to get the job done. Not being an avid reader often hindered my writing abilities. This class most definitely made me realize that the entire writing process is important and having peer reviews also helped significantly and certainly made a difference in the result of my work. Taking the time to read, brainstorm my thoughts, write an outline, rough draft after rough draft, reading constructive criticism of others helped in the revisions of my papers' reaching the best possible outcome. When selecting English 102, I knew I would be challenged, but to what extent I was unsure. If like past English courses that were taken learning to write essays would be the goal. Once realizing that my work would be shared with others, providing informed information

English 102 Reflection
Being a high school student while taking two college English composition classes has been anything but effortless. Essay after essay and something is almost always due the day of class. The assignments are never worksheets that take little to no thought or quick reads in a text book. No, what happens in English 111 and English 112 is the gaining of rhetorical knowledge, mastering the process in developing an academicessay, and plenty of critical thinking. Throughout both English courses that I have taken at the college level, I have attained a higher level of rhetorical knowledge. Particularly in 112, there was a focus on incorporating a range of support strategies for a singular claim. A key point in most grading rubrics was achieving/addressing the ethos pathos and logos of a piece or in your own writing. For example, in Project Onewe were asked to analyze an article and discuss what strategies the author used successfully or unsuccessfully. Next, in Project Two we had to incorporate those same support strategies into our...show more content...
It was pointed out to me in the Stasis project when I received an 86% on the paper. This is actually a grade I am not used to getting, I typically get A's on most of my assignments in any subject so this was a little disappointing. My transitions or line of reasoning were derailed and did fit together properly. I knew there were a few times throughout the essay that there were paragraphs which did not seem to correlate and I tried to fix it, but was unsuccessful. However, after getting that feedback, I make sure my transitions and paragraphs flow together and make sense to my main idea. It is my number one focus and I have found sources online that help me do so. Even though it was disappointing to get a B, it greatly helped my writing from then

English Reflective Essay
Over the course of this semester I have learned many different things in English 101 with Dr. Mary Bell. I have learned about four main things that have helped transform my writing immensely. These four things are: rhetorical awareness, critical thinking, reflection and revision, and conventions. Each of these four things I have learned this year have changed my writing for the better in their own unique way. Through the usage of these different techniques I believe I have grown as a writer. I learned that the audience and the context really matter when you are writing your essay. The audiences and the context of the essays completely changed when the writing prompt was changed. For example, in my literacy narrative I focused on my audience who was women battling with Breast Cancer. However, in my aspirational essay I had another audience, this audience was college students who were involved with fraternities. By writing to a specific audience you able to know that the readers are looking to learn about your writings. Considering the audience and the context of the essay was something I had never thought about before, but by really thinking and considering about who my audience was and what the context was it made the essays easier to write. When you are considering things such as the audience and the context you are able to focus on things you think would be effective in your writing. By critically thinking I was able to create a better structure

As I look back on my English 101 experience, I have come to the conclusion that I have learned many new things that have improved my abilities as a writer. I have learned some new techniques that have improved my ways of approaching an essay. I learned all about the rhetorical appeals and how to apply them in my writing and how to look for them in a essay written by a author. I have also learned how to argue both sides of a argument, and how to look for reliable sources and to properly quote and site the author of the essay. I feel as if I have become abetter writer and my improved writing skills are shown within each essay. I now see myself as a writer who has learned new techniques to help improve my writing including style, word choice and the revision process. Even though I see myself as a improved writer, I still believe I have plenty of room for improvement. When I first started English 101, I saw myself as having a few good strengths and a lot of weaknesses as a writer. Some of my strengths included being able to write a good introduction minus the thesis part. I also saw myself as knowing how to write a good conclusion that summarized what I talked about in my essay and being able to understand a article or essay by knowing what the author was talking about. Some of the improvements I saw in my writing thorough out the semester is learning how to write an essay where I can communicate with the audience with my own personal voice. I also feel I improved on knowing how to properly include quotes and how to find good creditable sources to include in my essay and on how to include both sides of a argument in my paper. Another improvement I found in my papers is learning how to revise them and approach each essay. However, there are some items of writing that I believe I improved on but still needs some work. For example, even though I have learned all about the rhetorical appeals and how to determine them in a essay, I still feel as if I do not know how to properly included them in my essay. I also see myself as improving on knowing how to write a thesis but still need work on Get more
My English 101 Experience

English class has never been my strong suite. I always had to work twice as hard in English then I did in any other class. Writing paper always had me stressed and overwhelmed, I felt discouraged in my work. l never seemed to be able to get to the level I wanted to. I would try my hardest and paid attention in class, but when it came to writing the paper none of that seemed to help. I think that my experience in English Composition 1 has helped gain and grow in some areas, but I don't think that it highlights a well–written college essay. Some elements that I worked to improving was introduction paragraphs, tone, style, and thesis statements. Throughout my experience in English 101, I gained information on the element...show more content...
During high school, I seemed to get marked done for the tone used in my paper. I learned in this class that tone is a very important element in writing a paper, and can help the paper flow better. My sentences in my high school papers didn't vary in length very well then. I always had a problem with short choppy sentences. When writing my profile essay, research easy, and personal essay I tried to make sure I had a variety of sentence lengths. I feel I gained some improve on this element, I know I still have issues but I have grown from where I was before. Some papers were stronger than others and I struggled a bit more when constructing my paragraphs. My strongest paper in tone I would feel was my Personal essay. "She wants them to believe they can do whatever their hearts desire but they have to be willing to work for it. As a mother, it's important to work with your kids and help them discover how they learn best. It's important to teach your kids that there are going to be certain things that they have to be willing to work harder at" (Profile Essay). During my essay writing process, I could fix these problems easier in the body paragraphs and struggle a bit more with the intro paragraph. Overall I think that the element of tone was not my best work in my
