Describe your personality using a color, animal, or an object of your choice. If I had to describe myself as an animal, I would choose a dog. Surprisingly, I didn't just choose this because I like dogs. Don't get me wrong dogs are fantastic; but I chose a dog because of its characteristics. Everyone knows about that little dog that barks louder than any dog on the block. That dog is me; except lucky for you I don't bark, nor am I covered in hair with a tail. What I mean to say is, from a distance I might seem intimidating, but once you come closer and get to know me you'll realize I 'm actually a teddy bear. (metaphorically of course) I love to greet people, whether it be friends or family, with open arms and make them feel welcome and at home. Also, I'm always there for anybody around me who may need some extra support. This could mean anything from running an errand for my mom or being a shoulder to cry on for a friend. One possible negative personality trait I share with dogs is occasionally being overprotective. I say this is negative very cautiously, because it is not always bad. I never want to see anybody get hurt. This leads to me always having my friends' and family's back, even when they may not want me to be there. In that way, I am similar to a dog.

Personal Characteristics Essay

There are many personal characteristics that can affect a person as an individual and his professional success, namely openness, ability to learn and adapt etc. These personal characteristics can sometimes make a person successful and sometimes doesn't. As I spend more and more time as a professional, I perceive that there are few characteristics that are essential for professional success: namely ambitious, creative and adaptable. These characteristics come out in many different ways. Have you set your goals? Have you decided the path you have to take to pursue your goal? What are the sacrifices you can do to achieve your ambition? How much can you think out of the box to resolve a particular issue or bring new idea to the table? How...show more content...

This characteristic will motivate me to grow better in my future career as well. I believe that few people have a strong inner feeling that pushes them to think out of the box to identify as issue and find the solution. Personally, I always try to find the most creative solution and do not give up until I get it. Sometime this energy is contagious on to next. I always search for the missing links and fine–tune my thoughts until I reach a point that works. This creativity has steadily driven my ambitions through the organization. Today the world is changing so rapidly and the way it has changed in last few decades, it hasn't changed in last few hundred years. So adaptability has become the need of the hour. I believe that adaptability is the most important quality of all, particularly if one is in technology industry. There have been times when this adaptability has changed the nomenclature of day and night but it has also given me rewards at the appropriate times. Adaptability, personally, has created a far–reaching international outlook and I was able to spend time, living outside my country of origin, working for UK retails giants and this stay not only diversified my work experience but also my cultural experience. It has improved my exposure to diverse situations with increasing levels of complexity and this exposure has increased my eagerness for new challenges. It has instigated a feeling in me that there

Three Words To Describe Me

The three words I would use to describe myself are; sincere, compassionate, and dedicated. Each word describes me in every part of my life; by myself, at school, and in public. I would describe myself as sincere because I am true to myself. I am easygoing, calm and enjoy talking and meeting with new people. In other words, I'm not shy. The second word that best describes me is compassionate because I recognize the care I have for others. I came to this realization when I looked at what gave me true happiness and satisfaction, and noticed that it was when I helped people in need, I attained and was filled with genuine happiness. Thirdly, the word that describes me best is dedicated. I dedicate myself to my education, my personal relationships,

Everybody has an identity, it makes them individual and unique, and it defines who you are as a person. This project about my identity showed me what makes me unique. I would have never known how much my friends mean to me or how my identities connect with each other. I have three identities that make me who I am, cultural, personal, and social. A specific quality that covers my cultural identity is being Czechoslovakian. Both sides of my family have at least a part of Czech in them. My great–grandparents are from Czech Republic and my grandpa was the first generation in America, he was born in Ohio. This is very important because I have always identified as Czech and it is a big part of me, as I am so interested in ancestry. For my personal identity, the biggest part is my personality, being loud and outgoing, has always been important to me. The reason being, it is how people view me. A lot of people know me as the loud person or the person who talks a lot. That is meaningful to me considering I like people to view me in a certain way The last identity, social, is one of the most important to me because it involves my friends, and through this project, I learned how vital they really are to my social identity. I realized that I have a good amount of friends in this project. It is nice to have people as a support system and to relate with. These qualities show that I value being loud and outgoing. It also says that I value my family and they are a big part of life. The last one, social, ties in with the first one because it shows I am outgoing and friendly. My interactions with people vary by my first impressions of them, but I try and give everyone a fair chance and I think that is important. I believe I am friendly when I first introduce myself, and I try to be myself and show my personality and who I am as a person, and they can judge me based off of that. I might judge someone for their personality because I have such a big one, but also the conversation we have together. One example is, I went to a camp over the summer and there was someone who didn't seem very friendly and didn't look the nicest, so I didn't approach her. Later that day, I decided why not give her a chance because she seemed alone

Describe Your Identity

Identity meaning the condition of being oneself or itself, and not another; the qualities, beliefs, etc., that distinguish or identify a person or thing. In other words, your identity is the main thing that separates you from the other seven billion people on your planet, if you don't know your identity then who are you? Although, everyone has a special skill or talent that makes you unique no matter how small your gift may seem. People have skills and talents in areas such as playing an instrument, playing sports, being creative, artistic, acting, singing, etc. People realize their gifts at different stages in their lives. When each of us brings our individual talents and skills together, the world becomes a masterpiece of a painting. I realized my gift when I was five years old. My mom was working with GE Healthcare fixing hospital machines. I would go with her to work, sit down on the chair and just watch her, using her tools to take apart different parts, big and small. My Personal Qualities

Over the course, I have learned that all people are unique and have their own personal traits and qualities. One person does not just simply fall into one category, but various categories. What is beautiful about all of us is that we all have diverse personalities, traits and qualities. I have learned that we should be proud of and embrace these unique qualities of ours.

As a perfectionist, I like to present my things beautifully and creatively, and it is clearly seen on my collage. It is about having a pretty mind, a pretty heart, and most importantly, a beautiful soul". I chose to use this quote because I adore it and I go by it. What matters most is in the inside, not on the outside. I think people sometimes, even me, get too caught up and try too hard to look beautiful, but they don't focus on personality.

A) I expected to get artistic, creative and investigative as my results on surveys that I took, because I already knew I had these traits as a part of my personality. However, the results from mylearning styles survey were a little surprising to me. I got visual as my highest total score, while kinesthetic and auditory were almost balanced out scores. The reason why I was a little surprised was that last year, I took a survey to figure out my learning style, and I got both auditory and visual learner. The results have their little differences, but that shows people do change over time. Learning styles can be learned and strengthened.

I learned plenty of things from my results. My values–which I didn't see clearly–are now clear, and I found out the little unique things that make up my personality. From my personality survey, I am mostly artistic,

ESSAY TOPIC: Describe the trait theory of personality. Select one "factor" or "trait" from a prominent trait theory and discuss the relative strengths and weaknesses of someone who strongly exhibits this trait.

1. Introduction

Traits are described as the unique and constant characteristic tendencies that shape and influence a person's mood and behaviour (Ewen 2013, p. 110; Olesen, Thomsen & O'Toole 2015, p. 45). Prominent personality psychologists Gordon Allport, authored the first American review of psychological literature on personality and character in 1921, citing numerous sources that involved trait concepts (Barenbaum & Winter 2008, p. 3). Notably, personality psychologists Gordon Allport, Raymond Cattell and Hans Eysenck made important contributions towards the understanding of personality traits that continue to influence modern trait theory (Barenbaum & Winter 2008, p. 12). Drawing from the work of these theorists, Paul Costa and Robert McCrae developed the widely accepted Five Factor Theory (FFT) (Ewen 2013, p. 140; John, Naumann & Soto 2008, p. 120). Neuroticism is one of the basic factors of personality featuring in several trait theories, including the FFT. Further, numerous studies have shown a significant link between negative mental health outcomes and high levels of neuroticism (Lahey 2009, p. 241 & 242). This essay will discuss the trait theory of personality and the outcomes for people who strongly exhibit neuroticism.

Reaction Paper #1 The "Big Five" Personality Traits Throughout our lives, we, as humans, encounter others that we may either have an immediate connection with, must discover more about the individual to determine the relevant connection, or simply, we just cannot manage to maintain a cordial relationship. What determines whether or not we can get along with someone else is defined by an individual's personality. A personality is an array of "psychological" characteristics that makes each person unique, in their own way. Upon analyzing my own personality, I believe that my overall character is one that understands, can relate, and focuses on the big picture both in my personal life and in the work environment. Therefore, in analyzing...show more content...

An experience that I can reference back to where I dealt with a co–worker that was on the lower side of the conscientiousness spectrum was when she and I were compiling a list together to fulfill tasks that needed to be completed for a showroom install we were working on. She had too many goals that needed to be obtained at one time, which meant that, with a deadline, some goals were not going to be adequately fulfilled. As a result, this made some of our presentations appear incomplete. The best resolution would have been to tailor the list, focusing only on key priorities, and worrying about the fillers later. I tend to believe that someone that only focuses on a few goals at one time not only shows that they are organized, but their organization allows for their co–workers to feel less stress and not under pressure, even with a deadline set. The third "big five" is "negative emotionality." This trait I view as a "personal life interference" trait. It is defined as the moodiness and lack of confidence "trait." It is understandable that everyone, at some point in time, becomes stressed during work, yet, "why" he or she is stressed and "how" he or she deals with it, are the key factors. An individual that becomes stressed about a report that has been assigned to him or her with an unrealistic deadline is relative to the work environment. Being able to remain poise and reassuring one's self that the deadline can be made are

"Big Five" Personality Traits

The precise definition of personality has been a point of discussion amongst many different theorists within many different disciplines since the beginning of civilization. Personality can be defined as "the distinctive and characteristic patterns of thought, emotion, and behavior that define an individual's personal style and influence his or her interactions with the environment" (Atkinson, Atkinson, Smith & Bem, 1993: 525). It can be proposed that personality psychology has two different tasks. "The first involves specifying the variables on which individuals differ from one another. The second involves synthesizing the psychological processes of human functioning into an integrated account of the total person" (Atkinson...show more content...

Once the variables making up the factors have been identified, some of the redundant variables may be removed (Diekhoff, 1992). As such, a large number of traits may be reduced to a number of personality factors. The procedure of factor analysis was a significant part of both the development and criticism of the five personality factor theory, as well as the theories on which it is based.

An experiment conducted by Allport and Oddbert (1936, cited in Goldberg, 1990) was based on the assumption that a dictionary contains a list of every possible trait name. Oddbert and Allport took every word from a dictionary that related to personality descriptors. This list was then revised to remove synonyms and unclear or doubtful words. Another researcher, Raymond Cattell (1945, cited in Atkinson et al, 1993) further revised the Allport–Oddbert list to 171 words. A study was then conducted by Cattell on a group of subjects who were asked to rate people they knew on the 171 traits. The results were factor analysed and 12 personality factors were found. However, 4 additional factors were found by analysing self–ratings. Cattell concluded that, in the adult human, 16 personality factors were dominant.

Eyesenck, (1953, cited in Atkinson et al, 1993) was another major theorist to use factor analysis. Although using the same basic approach as Cattell, Eyesenck used a more discriminatory factor analysis which resulted in far less than 16 factors.

The key to openness to experience would be to seek and gain new experiences. Managers with a high level of this trait are more creative and encourage others to try something different. Managers with a low level will think twice about taking a risk (McGraw–Hill, 2006). There are many other personality traits that can also have an effect on managers. These traits plays a part of a manager's demeanor and the way it coincides with others. One trait may affect a manager differently than another. One may be higher or lower than the other. Managers needs to know that learning and understanding the difference in their colleagues will be the key (McGraw–Hill, 2006). When someone has the confidence in themselves and what they are capable of accomplishing is called self–esteem. They have the notion that they can achieve any type of situations. They take on goals that are more on their level. Managers should have very high self–esteem so that they can acquire the desire to keep pushing forward when faced with problematic situations (McGraw–Hill, 2006). Then there are the internal locus and external locus of control which concerns what is going on around them. Internal locus of control takes ownership of their own actions and look for promotions because of them. They take the company goals to heart. External locus of control blame others for their actions because they do not believe in them.

Essay THE BIG FIVE
PERSONALITY TRAITS

Over the years, there has been a debate over whether or not personality can be changed. Growing older, experiencing life, and seeking personality change are all factors that play a part in this change. Throughout an individual's life, they are constantly strengthening and weakening certain traits, whether they want to or not. In the contents of this paper, personality change is discussed, showing that it is possible for an individual to change their personality. Can an Individual's Personality Change? Sometimes it seems unfair that individual's are assigned certain personality traits without the want of those traits. An individual might want to be an introvert wanting to be an extrovert, a procrastinator wanting to be productive, or any other personality trait that they want to trade for another. Is it possible to change an individual's personality or are they stuck with the same personality their whole life? An individual's personality can change because of aging, major life events, and simply the desire to change one's personality. Aging Most of the time, a person can change their personality unintentionally through simply growing older. Through aging, some traits will strengthen and some traits will weaken. Understanding Personality

Introduction

This essay is a concise guide to the understanding of personality in terms of Theories, structure and testing, looking at Trait, situation and interactional theories in particular. Every individual has a unique personality, which is known as their psychological makeup. This is known as the relatively stable, psychological structures that shape a person's actions in a specific environment. (Gill, 1986) This essay will look at the established theoretical psychological understand of personalities. Where did sports psychology begin? Sport psychology began in the 1890s thanks to the psychologist Norman Triplett, who was a keen cyclist, he asked the question, "Why do cyclists sometimes ride faster when they race in groups or pairs...show more content...

This first part looks into how these two conflict with the superego which can be placed a part of the conscious personality. The second part focuses on the person as a whole instead of labelling individual traits. This approach is very complex and is constantly adapting to the changes of confliction. (Weinberg & Gould, 2011)

The Trait Approach suggests there are units of personality which have traits. In this approach psychologists believe that the causes of behaviour originate within a person and that environmental and situational factors are minimal in the outcome of an event. (Weinberg & Gould, 2011) This assumes that once we have identified a specific trait, that we can then predict certain behaviour in a given situation. (Gill, 1986) This theory does not mean that an aggressive athlete will be aggressive in every competition; it just means that the athlete is likely to be aggressive. (Weinberg & Gould, 2011) Nearly all psychologists behind these theories agree on the "big five" model with its 5 labels of Personality traits /characteristics. These include Extraversion, openness to experience, agreeableness, neuroticism and conscientiousness. (Gill, 1986) "I have learned that much of our research on traits is over weighted with methodological preoccupation; and that we have too few restraints holding us to the structure of life as it is lived." (Allport, 1966, p. 8)

The situational approach suggests that behaviour is due to the situation and environment.

That is shown through my determination and hard work because if I didn't believe in myself I wouldn't try as hard. Last but not all, Humanistic approach sums up my personality a little more than psychodynamic does because it involves nature vs. nurture and that kind of sums it up just saying that. Environment and Heredity is kind of the main reasons of my attitudes and actions. In the article, Time–Limited Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Briggs conducts different forms of psychotherapy techniques to prove whether things in an adolescent's life effect different adolescents differently. His study was a success and proved that many adolescents have different interpretations on the same issue. He read them off different problems and wanted to see how they would interpret them. He used children in the age groups of 12–17 and it worked out. I think that the different approaches can be brought together in some circumstances but in my case it doesn't.
