Curfews can have advantages in certain states or high populated cities. Curfew is issued by the state law that prohibits teens to be outdoors after midnights. I agree that it should be illegal for teenagers to be out on the streets after 10 p.m on weekdays or after midnight on weekends because of safety, parental controls, and being more responsible. The first reason why curfew is important because of safety precautions. Enforcing a curfew law can decrease the traffic density late at night. A teen driving between 11p.m to 3a.m has a higher chance getting into an accident. Adding this limit outside, it would decrease the percentage of teens getting arrested at midnight. Curfews, a tool used by governments and parents alike to ensure the safety and security of those they care for. The youth of today have to face many challenges before their inevitable cross over into adulthood, and the addition of a curfew can aid this process by preventing easy access to drugs and alcohol and protecting youth from the dangers of dark streets late at night. After work, many drivers don't go straight home; some may go out to bars, while others may text and drive and drive tired. These dangerous drivers can threaten the lives of both other drivers and the pedestrians they pass by. Malicious people also become more prevalent in the evening hours, such as pedophiles, rapists, and murderers. All of these previously mentioned groups pose very clear and present dangers to today's youth; by adopting a curfew, parents will know that their children are not exposed to these dangers and the government will possible see a decrease in the commonality of these dangerous and potentially life threatening incidents. Unfortunately, come college, grad school or the "real world," these teens are going to have to start disciplining themselves. A kid that can come home at an appropriate time will take that skill into the future. A great way to teach children time discipline without enforcing a curfew is to be disciplined yourself. Parents, and their habits, set the example for teenagers.
Lack of Rights and Freedom
Although many dismiss this as a frivolous concern, teens are people with an inalienable set of rights too. Teenagers do have the freedom to associate with whoever they want, and should be entitled to a degree of personal freedom. Damian Collins of the Department of Geography at Simon Fraser University conducted research on this very subject in 1999, arguing that it comes from a parental impulsion to prevent youth crime in the Western world. As of late there have been several petty crimes perpetrated in the late evening hours by some of the youth in our community. I suggest that we impose a curfew limiting the juveniles under the age of 18 to being accompanied by a parent or guardian between the hours of 11:00 pm and 5:30 am. Curfews: What's the Point?
The 14th amendment of the United States Constitution states that any state shall not "deprive any person of life, liberty, or property, without due process of law; nor deny to any person within its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws" (Legal). However, many cities and states in the US currently enforce curfew laws that deny young teens under the age of 18 their right to be in public places or to drive after certain hours. These laws are punishing minors for exercising their constitutional rights in the same way that adults do without such punishment; they are mostly causing no harm, and do not deserve to be discriminated against by the government in the way they are.

I would suggest that if the government really wants to reduce crime rates, perhaps they should be targeting the percentage of the population that causes the other 87% of violent crimes. But let us take this hypothetical situation into consideration: What if the government decided that in order to reduce crime rates, no US citizen will be allowed to be in public after 11:00 p.m.? Most people would probably say that the government would never get away with such a ridiculous scheme. But in the case of curfew laws for minors, that is exactly what they are doing – denying United States citizens the right to live their lives freely, regardless of age.
Another major argument that supports the enforcement of curfew laws is that it reduces the amount of traffic accidents, as minors are inexperienced drivers. But to that extent I ask: What does the time of day matter? If young drivers are inexperienced, they will most likely cause accidents no matter what time of day they are on the road. However, these laws probably do reduce traffic accidents and make the roads safer, not necessarily because of the age of the drivers, but simply the fact that there are fewer vehicles on the road. If a law were to go into effect restricting all drivers ages 30–40 from driving late at night, there's going to be less car accidents. Does that mean that all drivers between the ages of 30 and 40 are bad drivers and don't deserve to drive late

Teen curfews discriminate against young minorities and violate the rights of minors, also I think that teen curfews confine all young teens based on actions of a small percentage of our population. Curfews are often needed to prevent teens from getting into trouble late at night and many people argue if parents should be held responsible for this. I understand many parents set up rules and other restrictions for their teens to follow, but I don't think parents should take the liability on what their child is doing. Have you ever heard of the witching hour? The period between 3 am and 4 am is often referred to as the witching or devil hour, since that is when paranormal forces are at their strongest. Some high school students choose to leave their home and hang out in the streets during this time.
