Free courses for unemployed youngsters in Colesberg ■ Gerhard Olivier COLESBERG: High youth unemployment rates mean that young people are not gaining the skills or experience needed to drive the Colesbeg local economy. The Atvance Academy Solution is on a mission to provide youngsters with free education in order to bridge the current non-funded gap after school and being job ready. Atvance Academy recently opened a campus in Colesberg. The first accredited course Project Support Services (Project Management) will be offered free of charge. Taryn Fynn from Atvance Academy explained how the programme worked. “We are offering these learning opportunities to communities free of charge. During the year more courses will be presented at the campus. This is not a learnership- its courses being offered to up-skill people so that they stand a better chance of being employed.. To qualify, youth need to be between the ages of 18 and 27. They must have either grade 10, 11 or 12. They need to have a copy of a certified ID and a certified copy of their report from their last grade passed or any other higher qualification they might have. Umsobomvu Rekord se suters koerant in Douglas die Siyancuma Rekord berig dat die Oranje Vaal Watergebruikersvereniging op 8 Janaurie 2021 die stand van damme in die omgewing bekend gemaak het en dat die Douglas Stuwal op 3 Januarie 2021 reeds 106.60% vol was was, die Vanderkloof dam het op 108.45% gestaan. Elders in die Noord-Kaap is daar nog streke wat nog met ‘n droogte sukkel. Soveel so dat
verskeie boere die afgelope week van hulle vee moes verkoop. Die NoordKaapse regering bied droogtehulp aan boere en dat daar ‘n Covid-19 hulpfonds aangebied is wat boere voor aansoek moes doen. Rekord Nuus het verneem dat baie boere nie vir hierdie fonds aansoek gedoen het nie. Maar, diegene wat wel aansoek gedoen het, het volgens die die inligting wat aan Rekord Nuus bekend gemaak is finansiële hulp ontvang.

Colesberg geskiedenis vasgevang in nuwe boek ■ Gerhard Olivier COLESBERG: Danksy n skrywer se liefde vir geskiedenis en veral die geskiedenis van Colesberg is die area se geskiedenis nou vasgevang in ‘n pragtige boek wat deur oud en jonk geniet sal word. Colesberg Plaaskronieke is geskryf deur Lizeth Taljaard. Die geskiedenis van Colesberg dateer terug na 1778, toe Goewerneur van Plettenberg sy baken in die distrik opgerig het. Trekboere het toe reeds seisoenaal vir winterweiding met hulle vee na hierdie omgewing getrek. Colesbergdistrik is ryk aan geskiedenis. Byna elke gebeurtenis in ons land het ʼn direkte effek op die omgewing gehad: Boesmanoorloë, die stigting van die Gereformeerde kerk, die
Groot Trek, die diamantstormloop, die Anglo-Boere-oorlog, kampioentelers – noem maar op! Stories van prominente leiers uit die gemeenskap asook gebeurtenisse wat op plase plaasgevind het, word in hierdie boek gedek. Colesberg Plaaskronieke bevat genealogiese inligting van plaaseienaars en hulle families. Ons sien hoe lede van baie van ons oorspronklike Kaapse families hier saamgetrek het, wagtende vir die grens om verder noord te verskuif sodat hulle die noorde met hulle nageslag kon vul. Northern Cape makes provision to hire doctors, nurses as COVID-19 cases rise ■ SABC Northern Cape KIMBERLEY: The Northern Cape had earlier placed a moratorium on all government vacant positions citing lack of funds, but an exception has now been made for health, due to the rising number of coronavirus cases. Northern Cape authorities have made provision for the health department to recruit more staff that include doctors to beef up their fight against COVID-19 in the province. Unions say the department’s turn to open healthcare vacancies comes as a result of pressure they exerted on the government to lift the
moratorium. The Northern Cape health department says it was after serious engagements with all relevant stakeholders including treasury to take this decision. Doctors at Robert Sobukwe Hospital Kimberley downed tools in December, demanding that all vacant positions at the hospital be filled. This as a moratorium placed in all government vacancies at least until the end of the financial year. At that time, doctors, nurses and all clinical staff complained of being overworked, the government eventually conceded as it was not going to be possible for health to operate with a high rate of vacancies. Northern Cape Health MEC Maruping Lekwene says, “You can’t close persal for health given the nature of our work. So most of our clinical staff come and go, others are on contracts, others
are relocating to other provinces, others their contracts come to an end. So there was an agreement that the moratorium will have a special exception for our clinical staff.” The health department says health facilities in their province have already made a request for more staff. Maruping says the facilities might have to deal with more COVID-19 infections later, given how and where they are located. “There’s a request that we must beef up staff, especially nurses and even doctors. So, yesterday we met up with the team to check how then we can reinforce because if you can check where these towns are located, Richmond, Victoria West, uSubuntu… they are just on the borders of Eastern Cape,” says Maruping.
Meer as 360 nuwe gevalle aangeteken ■ OFM-nuus ► Die volgende syfers is op 9 Januarie 2021 bekend gemaak. KIMBERLEY: Die Minister van Gesondheid, Zweli Mkhize, het aangekondig dat nog 362 mense in die Noord-Kaap positief vir Covid-19 getoets het. Dit bring die totale getal positiewe gevalle in die provinsie op 27 059
te staan. Dit is die tweede hoogste daaglikse gerapporteerde nuwe gevalle in die Namakwa distrik met 133 gevalle, gevolg deur Frances Baard met 79 gevalle. Die Pixley Ka Semedistrik het 64 positiewe gevalle aangeteken, ZF Mgcawu het 55 gevalle aangeteken, terwyl die John Taolo Gaetsewe-distrik 25
positiewe gevalle aangeteken het. Daarmee saam is vier Covid19-verwante sterftes aangeteken drie in Frances Baard en een in ZF Mgcawu. Dit bring die totale getal sterftes in die Noord-Kaap op 425 te staan. Die provinsie se getal aktiewe gevalle is 3 117 met 23 515 mense wat reeds herstel het. Die herstelkoers staan op 87%.

90% of NC parents receive placement offers ■ OFM news KIMBERLEY: The Northern Cape Department of Education reports that 90% of parents have received placement offers for the 2021 academic year. According to the department's spokesperson, Geoffrey van der Merwe, parents who have applied for school space at the same school their child previously attended, need not reapply as automatic placement is granted. OFM News previously reported that the Northern Cape has a limited capacity for Grade R learners. Therefore, a number of grade R parents may need to make use of Community Based Centres (ECD) for the 2021 school academic year. Van der Merwe adds that the Education Department has set up walk-in centres in all districts and urge all parents to make use of them. Furthermore, he states that district officers have made good progress to ensure that academic placement offers have been sent out. A learner, specifically in middle grades, will be granted school space without having to submit a new application if they wish to stay at the same school. Based on this, Van der Merwe says the parents of such learners can ignore the unsuccessful SMS that they will receive from the Department. In this case, parents need not appeal. The department requests parents' assistance to either accept or decline the offers of placement within a 7 day window period. Van der Merwe emphasises that failure to do so will result in the department placing the learner.

WhatsApp users grapple with new privacy policy ■ The South African NATIONAL: This week, social media platforms have been flooded with announcements being made by ‘WhatsApp’ adding a policy for their users. WhatsApp users have to agree to share information with Facebook if they want to continue using the service. The instant messaging platform alerted users with a popup notice saying they “need to accept these updates to continue using WhatsApp”, or delete their accounts. While the app remains
end-to-end encrypted, meaning your messages are encrypted to protect against WhatsApp and third parties from reading them, the app will collect and share private data of users to Facebook, which owns the app. Users will not be able to opt-out of the new privacy policy, as its terms and conditions must be accepted to continue using the app. Users must agree to the new terms by 8 February 2021 or lose access to their chats and contacts. In its update release, WhatsApp explained that it will “collect
information about your activity on our Services, like service-related, diagnostic, and performance information. “This also includes information about when you registered to use our Services; the features you use like our messaging, calling, Status, groups (including group name, group picture, group description), payments or business features; profile photo, ‘about’ information; whether you are online when you last used our Services (your ‘last seen’); and when you last updated your ‘about’ information.”

Wie is jy? Wie is jy? Wat is jy? Waar kom jy vandaan? Waar gaan jy heen? Ja, jy het ‘n naam, en ‘n agtergrond, ‘n herkoms; jy lyk soos jy lyk; jy is wie jy is. Vir 70 jaar sal jy leef, as jy sterk is 80. Jy sal hierdie aarde verlaat … verseker. Jy kom iewers vandaan … verseker. Op ‘n tyd was jy ‘n blink in jou ouers se oog. Almal se lewenspad begin iewers, en loop ‘n spesifieke rigting. Dag vir dag bepaal keuses jou weë, besluite veroorsaak dat jy by sekere kruisings links draai, by ander draai jy regs. Party deure gaan oop en jy stap deur, ander gaan toe en jy draai om. So kom dit uiteindelik dat jy vandag is wie jy is, en waar jy is. Vandag is jy iemand, en vandag het jy iets… ‘n liggaam, goedere, materiële dinge, ens. Die vraag wat ek jou vandag vra is: aan wie behoort dit? Deur wie se toedoen is dit soos dit is? Wat het jy? Seker 'n motor, dalk 'n woning, meubels, dalk 'n tweede woning, 'n horlosie. Dalk het jy kinders, 'n lewensmaat en 'n werk, miskien geld in die bank, dalk het jy 'n geleerdheid. Almal het darem min of meer iets, party min en party meer, dalk nooit genoeg nie. Wat ek is, is net genade... Jy ken die lied van Koos Doep genaamd "Gebed", waar hy sing "Wat ek is, is net genade, wat ek het, is net geleen." Waar woorde, want niks wat jy is, of het, sal na jou afsterwe meer vir jou persoonlik enige nut of waarde hê nie. God skep. En van dag een af begin Hy waarde toevoeg aan die mens. Ek en jy word iets, bereik iets, doen dinge, daar kom sin in ons lewe. Daar is swaarkry, daar is ook lekker tye; ons leer, studeer, werk ons op; ons word selfs “iemand”. Maar … dan begin ‘n probleem - die mens begin te veel van homself dink, en slaan homself hoog aan. Ons begin op ons eie kragte staatmaak en voel ons is so bietjie in beheer… voel jy ook soms so? Die feit is egter: wat ek is, is net genade. Elke stukkie intelligensie in jou, elke vermoë, talent, alles, is NET genade – ‘n geskenk van God af. Wat ek het, is net geleen … As ek en jy doodgaan, vat die skepping alles terug. Ons weet vandag dat “stof tot stof” - aldus die Bybel - ‘n wetenskaplike feit is. As jy sterf begin die aarde onmiddellik elke atoom terugvat. Stof tot stof. Alles wat jy besit, elke ding wat gemaak is, sal eventueel verval tot sy basiese elemente. Dis ‘n wetenskaplike feit. Los jou motor vir ‘n paar eeue buite, en hy roes, verweer en raak letterlik weg. Die aarde soek sy atome terug – dié wat hy aan jou geleen het. Die aarde soek ook vir jou terug, atoom vir atoom, en net jou siel bly oor. Pred. 12:6-7 "… die tyd wanneer die silwerdraad afgebreek word en die goue kruik breek, die kruik by die fontein stukkend breek en die wiel by die put stukkend val, die tyd wanneer die stof na die aarde toe terugkeer soos dit was, en die gees na God terugkeer wat dit gegee het.“ Die Here stel 'n klomp dinge tot my en jou beskikking, soos lewe, dinge en vermoëns. Sodat ons jare hier op aarde nuttig en sinvol sal wees, en definitief nie sodat ons self net die vrug daarvan pluk nie, maar iewers soek die Here, en ja ook die natuur, alles weer terug. Ek dink so aan die ou-ou liedjie se woorde: "Moet ek gaan met leë hande, moet ek so my Heer ontmoet, nie een siel na Hom gelei nie, niks te offer aan Sy voet". Dis so jammer as dit so is aan die einde van ons lewens, want dan het ons net op Sy goedheid geteer en niks teruggegee nie. ~ Willem Botha

Klein Eva. Ek is besig om dorp toe te ry toe ek so ‘n gevoel van Déjà vu kry. Ek ken dié gevoel maar te goed. Ek weet wat dit beteken. Hier kom ‘n kuiergas aanklop. ‘n Klein dogtertjie van die verlede. Ek is verbaas want ek het haar in jare nie gevoel nie. Ek skuif haar op die agtergrond en draai die radio harder en sing saam met my dogtertjie die Allerbeste kinderliedjies se Cd. “Handjies handjies, klap-klap-klap. Mondjies mondjies, hap-hap-hap. Voetjies voetjies, stap-stapstap…” maar ek weet ek gaan haar nie weg sing nie. Nie vandag nie! Die gesprek tussen ons twee is lankal overdue. Ons almal loop mos maar met ons bondeltjie. Ek en jy! Soms lag ons saam met die wêreld daar buite maar hier binne dra elkeen ‘n hart wat bietjie verslete is. Snaaks hoe ek altyd gedink het ‘n hart wat heel is is mooi. Tyd en ouderdom het die teendeel bewys. Dit wys jy het geleef. Jy het dalk seergekry en jy is terleurgestel maar jy het ook goeie ervarings. En daar is altyd vernuwing. Die Groot Meester kom altyd en werk die stukkende stukkies met baie geduld en deernis weer mooi aan al wys die laste en is die kleur soms bietjie af. Nou sit jy en lees en wonder waaroor Eva nou eintlik vandag skryf. Die kuiergas waarna ek verwys is ‘n kleiner Eva wat op jong ouderdom gemolesteer was. Wat ‘n aaklige woord dink ek altyd. So ‘n Dooie woord! Op twintig het ek met ‘n vrou gaan praat op aandrang van my Ma en ‘n werkgewer. Ek het altyd as kind gedink jy lê op ‘n lang bank en hulle wat luister sit met hul rug voor ‘n venster. Hulle maak
Deur Hannetjie Brooks notas en teen die mure staan rakke en rakke vol boeke. Ek was bang! Hierdie hulp is mos vir ander mense – mal mense? Of is dit? In 6 weke na 12 afsprake het ek daar uitgestap. Vir die eerste keer het ek gevoel hoe dit voel om regtig te lééf! Die son op my gesig te voel en in die oomblik te wees. Geluk is regtig ‘n ding wat jy net in jouself kan vind. Die dogtertjie van destyds was vir eers weg. Maar vandag staan klein Eva weer hier voor my deur. Ek verseker haar sodra ek kans kry sal ons gesels. Aand het gekom. Met my gesin wat rustig slaap het ek die kleiner Eva se hand geneem en haar op reis deur ons lewe geneem. Ek het haar my hart gewys. Die plekke waar God dit weer heel gemaak het. Almal betrokke het seergekry verduidelik ek. Maar ons wonde het genees verseker ek haar! Ek wys vir haar my familie, my Ma, my gesin, my vriende en my lewe nóú. My hart is in elke foto teen die muur en ek trek die albums nader - ons kyk deur die gesins fotos. Ons lag, speel en lééf wys ek vir haar. In my huis weerklink die lag van gelukkige kinders. ‘n Man wat ons versorg, ons liefhet en sy lewe sal gee as dit moet. Ek sê vir haar sy moenie weer kom nie maar verseker haar dat ek nooit sal vergeet nie. Ons is maar op die ou einde van die dag ‘n produk van mekaar. Klein Eva voel tevrede. My vraag destyds was hoe sal ek weet ek is ‘gesond’? As jy daaroor kan praat en nie meer verlies voel nie was die antwoord. Genesing is vir almal beskore. Die oortreder is lankal vergewe. Sy boete uitgedien! Hyself het ook maar geworstel met sy bondeltjie – meer nog as sy slagoffers dink ek soms. Oordeel kom die mens in elkgeval nie toe nie. Hierdie hoofstuk van my lewe is by die Here se voete. Ek deel dit vandag met jou! Maak ‘n punt daarvan om julle kinders weereens bewus te maak. Wys vir hulle die gevare uit. Doen dit sommer vandag! Ons kan nie genoeg met ons kinders hieroor gesels nie en as jy een van die ouers is wat dit moeilik vind om met jou kind oor molestering te praat, koop vir hulle ‘n boek. Daar is baie boeke beskikbaar. Ons moet ons seuns en dogters beskerm. Wolwe kom heel dikwels in skaapsklere. Dis ek, Eva. Volg "Uit die Hart van Eva" op facebook

As it is with any other addiction, you really have to throw yourself into it. You cannot do this right with the commitment of a Kardashian marriage.

But unfortunately; there are certain times and circumstances where you will have to draw a line. OFM said it best: Don’t drive while “intexticated”. When I first heard Success say that line, I thought that she was intoxicated while broadcasting. But then I realized that this was a new campaign against texting while driving. It has happened to all of us (the addicts). You look down to send a quick one-liner and only look up again after doing a complete Facebook status update. And when you realize you are not driving on the road anymore, but in a farmer’s crop field, then this is where step one of the rehab program begins for you. Step one: Admit that you have a problem. Don’t text while talking. Everyone knows that horrible feeling when falling victim to “the dead eye”. The dead eye is the look you get when you are trying to have a conversation with someone and they are looking you straight in the eyes while their fingers are typing away on the cell phone. I am ashamed to say that I have given and also received the dead eye before. Step two: Abstinence. Restaurants: Never sit at the table feeding your social media addiction instead of your face... unless your blind date is also doing it. Step three: Acceptance.

Arme kinders is van hulle krismis suiggoed ontneem as Mamma net soos daai mense in woolworths advertensies die oorsprong van waar jou hoenders vandaan kom nie kon vastel met die lekkergoed wat heel moontlik skelm deur ouma vir klein Sannie gegee is nie. Klitsie verstaan dat die einste lolly boef 'n erkende en gerespekteerde member van die zol rokers community in die dorp is wat 'n skyf vinniger as die einste lollies wat die so loop en uitdeel het kan opsuig. En nou sal mammie mos so sit en dink terwyl sy vir klitsie lees dat sy seker is jannie nie een van die zol rokers is wat saam met die lolly boef 'n skyf sit en rook nie. Moekie, klitsie het advise vir jou. Daardie eye drops wat jy so bly koop is regtig nie nou vir jannie om beter te kan sien nie. Dis meer 'n wolfie in skaap klere...se ma net tot volgende week

Hy skrik toe hy sy naam hoor. "Paul-Ryk foon" Hy sug, kyk 'n slag weer in haar rigting voordat hy die stompie dooddruk en 'n lyn maak om die foon te antwoord. Zani is in die sewende hemel. Easy Portuguese Beef Trinchado Ingredients 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce 1 tbsp soy sauce 1 tbsp balsamic vinegar 3 tbsp butter 3 tbsp olive oil 1,5 kg cubed beef sirloin or similar 2 white onions chopped 3 small red chili peppers chopped (retain seeds) 3-4 tsp minced garlic 2 tbsp corn flour Maizena 1 cup beef stock 1 cup red wine 2 bay leaves 1 tbsp sugar 75 g tomato paste 2 tbsp tomato sauce salt & pepper
Instructions Combine Worcester sauce and soy sauce and marinade the beef cubes in the mixture for 30 minutes to an hour. This will tenderise the meat. Drain marinade well into a separate bowl before cooking the beef. In a large pan, heat 1 tbsp butter and 1 tbsp olive oil over medium high heat. When the butter is sizzling, add about a quarter of the beef cubes (not letting them touch) and brown well, about 3-4 minutes. Brown the meat in batches, adding 1 tbsp butter and olive oil each in between the batches. Once a batch is done, set it aside in a dish to rest. Once all the meat has browned, reduce heat and add onion, chili with seeds and cook for about 5 minutes until soft. Add garlic and cook for another minute. Sprinkle over the corn flour and stir continuously for about 2 minutes. Add the stock, balsamic vinegar, red wine and bay leaves. Stir until the sauce thickens and simmer for about 10 minutes. Stir in the tomato paste and tomato sauce, then add in the beef cubes and their juices and simmer gently for a further 10 minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste and serve with fresh Portuguese bread rolls.

Maserati reinterprets its sedans by introducing the V8 engine. Maserati writes a new chapter in its history by expanding its Trofeo collection. Following the 2018 launch of Levante Trofeo, the SUV’s most extreme, most powerful version, the new Quattroporte and Ghibli Trofeo are now available, achieving the pinnacle of performance, sportiness and luxury. To highlight once again Maserati’s all-Italian identity, the colours chosen for the Trofeo collection launch are those of the country’s flag: green for Quattroporte, white for Levante and red for Ghibli, which combine with the burnished chrome-work and glossy red trims for a particularly aggressive and elegant look. The heart of Ghibli and Quattroporte Trofeo is the 3.8 l V8 Twin Turbo with power output of 433 kW (580 hp) at 6,250 rpm and peak torque of 730 Nm.vv The engine, which has already revealed all its power on Levante Trofeo, is built at the Ferrari plant at Maranello to Maserati’s specifications, and has been modified and developed to deliver equally impressive performances on the rear-engine sedans. Although completely new for Ghibli, the V8 engine has already been used in the past on Quattroporte GTS, in the 395 kW (530 hp) version. In terms of the Ghibli Trofeo, the bonnet has also been restyled, featuring two aggressive air ducts for better cooling, just like on Levante Trofeo. Ghibli and Quattroporte Trofeo are fitted with 21” aluminium Orione wheels. 22” Orione wheels are available on Levante Trofeo. The Trofeo characterisation continues in the interior, with a new on-board panel that displays an exclusive interface at switch-on, while the headrests bear the Trofeo badge with the name in three-dimensional relief. The exclusivity also extends to the interior upholstery, in full-grain Pieno Fiore natural leather. The ADAS system has evolved to include new functions, and thanks to Active Driving Assist the assisted driving function can now be activated on urban roads and ordinary highways.
