Best practices from school education in Finland
We are all very thankful that we could share our school with our guests and hope to see them again soon. Kiitos! This year marked our 7th international workshop. Focus On: Best Practices on School Education in Finland was developed in order to compare best practices between our school and Finnish public schools. Jorma Kotkajärvi and Javier Salazar, two Finnish educators with years of experience in Helsinki, came to our school to meet with our teachers, students, parents, and even guests from other schools and preschools around Lima. Jorma and Javier started off their trip by explaining how the Finnish system works, the independence they give their kids, and the role of parents in their kids’ education. They even dispelled the myth that there is no homework in Finland and taught us some Finnish. The rest of the week was spent talking about the use of space as a learning tool, play with educational purposes, giving students agency in the classroom, and how to really observe how kids learn.
JORMA & JAVIER What does Jorma and Javier think about education in Peru and at Colegio Alpamayo?
