INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTE OF TROPICAL FORESTRY The International Institute of Tropical Forestry is a USDA Forest Service research development and technology transfer institute located in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico. Created in 1939 in cooperation with the University of Puerto Rico, the Institute has long been a leader in tropical forestry research, technology transfer, and technical assistance throughout the world. Through its research the Institute has contributed invaluable information about El Yunque National Forest. The mission of the Institute includes to develop and disseminate knowledge that contributes to the conservation of tropical forests, wildlife, and watersheds.
