This is why we are committed to supporting the local community in various ways and doing so is at the core of our company’s overall mission and values. The global impact of COVID-19 highlighted the vulnerability of countries and nations all over the world. Now more than ever it is important to lend a helping hand to a neighbor in need. Here on St. Croix, our agents sought out areas within the community that were deeply impacted by this unprecedented pandemic and identified how they could best offer their assistance with the support of their franchise owner, Schmidt Family of Companies. In 2018, Schmidt purchased Coldwell Banker St. Croix Realty and soon after created the Schmidt Community Fund – a non-profit organization that focuses on investing in youth, programs and initiatives in the communities where they live and serve. One of the goals of the fund is to support the work that our St. Croix Realtors are doing by matching their contributions dollar for dollar. Summer 2020 was a scorcher here with temperatures averaging in the low to mid 90s! Our Coldwell Banker St Croix Realty agents unanimously agreed that one of the 2020 community outreach service should be a cool gift in the form of air conditioning units to the Sister Emma Cottage located on the Queen Louise campus. Since its inception in 1904, Queen Louise Home for Children has provided a safe haven and residential foster care for children in the Virgin Islands who have been abused, abandoned, or neglected. Sister Emma Cottage is the residence for children with the most severe physical and developmental disabilities providing round-the-clock critical care to its residents. While the bedrooms were airconditioned, the main room that functions as the dining hall and activities center were not. Our Realtors along with support from other community members raised $3000 for the air conditioning units. In turn, the Schmidt Community Fund supported this initiative by matching their collective donation with $3000 for a total of $6000 raised. The agents used their longstanding relationships with local contractors to successfully install three new split air conditioners. In doing so, the employees are now able to do their work more comfortably and the residents can enjoy cool air conditioning throughout the entire building!

Another community outreach project near and dear to our Coldwell Banker St Croix Realty agents is The Collective Collaboration Inc. Founded by Karen Dickenson, this organization supports the homeless and mentally challenged community by providing them with food, housing and reconnecting them with their families. At this time, there aren’t any facilities on island to help those who are homeless or mentally ill. The organization’s hands-on approach and fervent passion to assist these individuals truly spoke to our team. We felt the need to help out further by taking them under our wing and continuing to assist them in any way we can. Collectively, we raised $1700 to help the organization with a number of initiatives from allocating food for their daily meal distribution to their day-to-day operational expenses. We recognize this work is not for the faint of heart and the drive of Ms. Dickenson and the volunteers of The Collective Collaboration is a testament to what the St. Croix community is all about – helping one another in any way possible. We’re proud to share that two of our Realtors were recently recognized by the St. Croix Board of Realtors for the work they’ve done in the community. The Good Neighbor Award is a quarterly award program that was launched in 2020. St. Croix Board of Realtors Board of Directors recognizes one applicant per quarter as the winner of the award and the winner receives a $1000 donation to their supported charity. Judy Lambert won the award in Q2 for her work with The Jericho Road Project. This program requests monetary and physical donations of school supplies that the public schools on St. Croix desperately need. The program organizers, Darrell and Deanna Davidson, order 150 backpacks and volunteers help stock each backpack with specific school supplies. From there, backpacks are distributed to students in need. In Q3, Stephen Swanton won for his work with the V.I. Triathlon Federation. The organization’s mantra, “to live, you must give,” is further underlined as every board member donates their time and efforts to the community and the organization without pay. In addition to these numerous projects, our office has supported the robust St. Croix community in other ways. • Our agents collaborated with members of St. Croix Board of Realtors Community Outreach Committee to assist the senior residents at Flamboyant Gardens. Together, we collected food donations, puzzles, knitting supplies, games and crossword puzzle books. The items were delivered to the staff for distribution among the residents. We also wrote personal letters to forty-five (45) residents within the senior housing community which included a hand painted greeting card made by one of our members. • During the height of the pandemic, a number of our agents worked with The Animal Shelter to transport dogs for airlifts to the mainland. • Our agent, Sanni Craft, has been on the Board of Directors at St. George Village Botanical Gardens since 2018. With botanical collections that include over 1,000 varieties of plants, the site demonstrates the horticultural potential for the U.S. Virgin Islands and emphasize the cultural and historical value of plants as a source of food, medicine, fiber, color dyes, and building material in the Caribbean. Year after year, our agents give back to the St. Croix community in a number of ways both collectively and individually. These countless contributions extend far beyond the space available to write about each project that has been supported.
