• The full policy for Uniformed and Non-uniformed staff is on the intranet.
Uniform and Corporate Dress Code Procedure v2.0 - ESNEFT.doc (sharepoi nt.com )
• Wearing the Trust uniform in public places, such as supermarkets or public transport, is not acceptable. The only exception will be when staff are performing their role in the community.
• Uniforms (including scrubs) are not to be worn when travelling to or from work by any method (walking, using public transport or by car). Staff must get changed at work. This includes staff that are on-call and live in the locality. The exception is when staff are performing their role in the community.
• The ESNEFT Adverse Weather Policy provides detail regarding any changes to uniform due to extremes of weather.
Our Trust aims to promote a culture where our staff and students feel able to raise concerns, ideally openly or if they prefer anonymously. The Trust has a range of measures to encourage trainees, students, apprentices and staff to speak up about their concerns.
We want all staff to feel safe. We know that some staff may feel uncertain about speaking up. You may believe that it will be held against you or that you may suffer detriment after speaking up.
We offer absolute protection to all staff that speak up in good faith.
Provided you are acting honestly and in good faith, it does not matter if you are mistaken or if there is an innocent explanation for the concerns.
If you raise a concern under the Raising Concerns policies, regardless of the route you choose to speak up, you will not be at risk of any form of reprisal, or reprimand or be subjected to any form of detriment.
You can raise concerns in many ways:
• With your, clinical or education supervisor or area manager
• With the Education team
• With your personal tutor
• By contacting the “Freedom To Speak Up Guardian" - 01206 745300 or 07919298635
• Via the confidential Email: raisingconcerns@esneft.nhs.uk
• All staff raising concerns/speaking up will be offered a referral to the wellbeing team or Occupational Health for psychological support or debriefing via the staff helpline (0300 303 1361
We do not tolerate the harassment or victimisation of anyone raising a concern. Nor will we tolerate any attempt to bully the employee into not raising any such concern.
Any such behaviour is a breach our core values and, if upheld following investigation, may could result in disciplinary action.
We strive for all our colleagues to always remember our trust values:-
• Optimistic – We will work together positively to make time matter for all our patients and staff
• Appreciative – We understand and value the role we all have in delivering better patient care every day
• Kind - We will value diversity and provide a caring and listening environment for all our patients and staff
It is the duty of all staff working within the Trust to report incidents, near misses, hazards and work related injuries using the Trust Datix Electronic Web Incident Form (DIF1) as soon as practicably possible after the event.
This can be accessed via the quick links drop down on the home page on the intranet and then select nonclinical links. Ask any member of staff should you require assistance in completing a form.
You should also inform your Line Manager \ Clinical \ Education supervisor or area manager of any incident you observe and report.
We recognise that these sites are a useful way of communicating and sharing information with friends and colleagues, however, information placed on social networking sites is in the public domain and can therefore be viewed by other people. The Trust rarely needs to take action over a registrant’s use of social networking sites; however, we would take action about staff using such a site if it raised concerns about their fitness to practice
You should make sure that when you use the sites, your usage is consistent with the standards set by your governing bodies
• You must act in the best interests of service users.
• You must respect the confidentiality of service users/Trust personnel and the Organisation as a whole.
• You must keep high standards of personal conduct.
• You must not make announcements regarding COVID-19 on your social media account.
• If you are contacted via social media with questions related to COVID-19 you should redirect people to https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/ or https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus
• You must behave with honesty and integrity and make sure that your behaviour does not damage the public’s confidence in you or your profession
When you post information on social networking sites, you should consider whether it is appropriate to share that information. If the information is confidential and is about your service user, patient, client or colleague, you should not put it on a site. You may use social networking sites to share your views and opinions but you must adhere to your professional body’s values. We might need to take action if the comments posted were offensive, for example if they were racist or sexually explicit
When dealing with Personal and Sensitive data, make sure that it is:
• S - Secure (Put away when finished with? Computer locked or logged off?)
• E - Error Free (All details correct?)
• C - Consent (Are we sharing with the right people?)
• U - Up to date (Accurate? Still needed?)
• R - Relevant (Using it for the reason it was collected?)
• E - Exactly as you would want your own personal data used
Working in a hospital, you will have access to lots of patient data. This is known as Personal or Sensitive information.
Personal information is anything that can be used to identify an individual, either on its own or in conjunction with something else e.g. name, date of birth, address etc
Sensitive information is something that tells us about that person, including religious beliefs, sexual orientation, physical or mental health. Both these types of information are regulated by legislation, including the Data Protection Act and GDPR, and you are expected to keep them confidential.
You are not allowed to look up the details of anyone that you are not directly providing care for, such as friends, family or colleagues. Such inappropriate use of access is likely to result in disciplinary action.
Please double check information before handing over documentation to patients, to ensure that it is for the correct patient as there have been some incidents where patients have been handed information for a different patient and taken it home.
Please ensure that printed/written handover sheets are disposed of in the special confidential waste bins (big blue wheelie bins). These should not be taken off the ward to home or out of the hospital at all.
Make sure you know who you're talking to if you're discussing personal information and that the person you are talking about has given permission to share the information. Do not discuss confidential patient information in areas where they may be overheard. In some circumstances a “password” can be arranged by the ward for a family member to enable us to confirm the person we are speaking with. This should only be arranged with the Ward Manager.
Your email addresses, provided by the hospital or the university, are not secure. Never use them in relation to patient identifiable data. If unsure about the process for making clinical referrals always ask a member of staff, do not attempt to complete these alone.
More information can be found on the Information Governance intranet pages including all our policies and procedures.

The Spiritual Care and Chaplaincy Team is an integral part of the Healthcare Team, providing spiritual care to patients, families, and staff of all faiths and beliefs or none. Trust Chaplains are employed by the NHS to be specialists in all aspects of spiritual and pastoral care of the whole hospital community, including those at Clacton and Harwich.
Our Trust chaplains use their extensive training, experience and understanding of faith matters to provide support to all who a chaplain’s assistance. The chaplains are sensitive to the cultural, religious, spiritual, emotional and personal needs of patients and their careers, always working to the patients’ agendas.
The Spiritual Care and Chaplaincy Team is also a key resource in meeting care needs arising from diverse religions, beliefs and cultures such as diet, washing facilities, ways of addressing people – i.e. which name to use, birth rites, death rites, modesty and communication conventions

However, if you would like to speak to them at any time of the day or night, there is usually a chaplain on call 24 hours who you can contact via the appropriate switchboard. Alternatively, your clinical team can also help you get in touch with them.
Palliative Medicine Consultants and Clinical Nurse
Specialists who provide an inpatient hospital advisory service, working alongside treating teams and coordinating with community services. Referrals to the team can be made at any time from diagnosis to death where patients have complex needs including:
• Uncontrolled pain and other symptoms
• Psycho-social, emotional and spiritual issues

• Support, advice and palliative care education for health care professionals
• Any patient that the team feels would benefit from a short period of hospice inpatient care
They accept referrals from any member of hospital clinical staff and also directly from patients, relatives and external professionals e.g., hospice community staff. Outpatient review is also available.
SPICT (Supportive & Palliative Care Indicators Tool) is used to help identify people whose health is deteriorating, and would benefit from advance care planning conversations to be started (such as ReSPECT). People who are identified as potentially in their last years of life should be assessed for unmet supportive and palliative care needs.

The most important thing is to reach out. We all want you to succeed and reach your full potential so don’t be afraid to seek help. We have listed below a number of ways in which you can get support throughout your training, both locally and external to the Trust.
Your Educational Supervisor (ES)
Make early contact with your Educational Supervisor as they will be your mentors throughout your training and will be there to support you. Reach out to them if you need support or to discuss any issues concerning you.
Your Clinical Supervisor (CS)
Again, make early contact so that you know who your Clinical Supervisor is and how to get hold of them. In some hospital posts you may have limited access to them but keep in touch via email and ask to meet them if you need to discuss any issues that are affecting your post.
There should always be someone available on your ward or in your current workplace to speak to should you need support or have any concerns. If you are unsure who this is, the Medical Education Team can help put you in touch with someone.
Your College Tutor or Faculty Leads are always on hand to discuss any issues that you are unable to resolve with your CS or ES or for any issues that affect your training, such as reducing your hours, taking time out of training, exam issues, Dyslexia testing, etc.
Please see below for a full list of current tutors and leads, and you can also find their details in your Faculty Handbook. They can be contacted via their ESNEFT email address on the outlook system
Buddy Schemes
Foundation Year 1 trainee doctors will be allocated a Foundation Year 2 buddy when they start work at ESNEFT.

BLS training at ESNEFT is completed through a new system called RQI (Resuscitation Quality Improvement) using both an online session and a follow-up assessment.
Instead of group face-to-face sessions, the Trust has moved to an individual two-step training programme which can be completed 24 hours a day, seven days a week

If you need to contact any area within Human Resources or the Healthroster / ESR / Payroll team, you can do so via the Employee Helpdesk or by calling:
0300 303 1361
Much like the ICT process, the new approach will enable you to raise a ticket quickly via our online self-service portal. The ticket will be assigned to the right team within HR / Healthroster / ESR / Payroll. The team are also working hard to automate as much as possible to speed up your service.
Raise a ticket
The helpline is open and operational seven days a week: Monday to Friday 7am to 4pm · Saturday, Sunday and Bank Holidays 8am to 12 noon ESR training
