The Arts First Form Mime Presentations

Drama Award Holders Performances’

First Form presented their devised mime performances to a full house in The Shed on Monday 23 November, with many parents attending during lunchtime. The year group did themselves proud by working together in four ensembles to deliver some very imaginative and entertaining stories without the use of any dialogue. Performances featured royalty, lion taming, a campfire and zombies on a plane, across four separate sketches.

Creation Theatre Workshop

Creation Theatre returned to Cokethorpe on Monday 16 November to provide pupils with a unique opportunity to explore one of their studied English Literature GCSE texts. Six actors spent the day working with small groups of pupils exploring context, and creating interpretations of various sections of Arthur Miller’s play, A View from the Bridge. The performances created a wonderful finale to the day and some innovative interpretations which will support them in their knowledge and appreciation of the text. Oliver Kerton (Fifth Form, Gascoigne) is to be commended for his impressive rendition of Paper Doll.

Drama Award Holders’ Presentations

On Thursday 5 November, the Drama Award Holders presented a variety of monologues and duologues in The Shed. It was reassuring to hear in Ardan Devine’s (Lower Sixth, Queen Anne) introduction that those who participate or watch drama are scientifically proven to be more intelligent, amusing and better looking individuals than those who do not! Hayden Camidge (Third Form, Vanbrugh) began proceedings with an extract from Dialogues for the Dead in which he played a character reflecting upon his attempts to murder an elderly gentleman for his inheritance. There then followed a collection of comic, dark, emotive and profound performances from pupils across several year groups.
