During the day John worked for a record importer and at night Freez would record until the daylight. As with many artists in the states, John began selling records out of the trunk of cars with the first record being “Keep in Touch,” under the record label Pink Rhythm. Under Pink Rhythm, Freez also recorded “Melodies of Love,” and “Pop Goes My Love,” but it was the number one charted Billboard dance hit in the US and Europe, “IOU,” which made Freez an international success with over 70 versions of the hit single. Completely unaware of his Iconic House Music status, he seemed humbled about his musical impact. “I suppose they think the music has become current again in some sort of retro way and so it will sell. I appreciate the interest of course. There have been more and more labels, films/documentaries that have looked to make contact and/or licensed some of my music over the past few years.” He owns no MP3 player nor listens to music on his phone. “If I feel a musical need I'll probably get on my computer and mess around with sounds until I get bored. I like R&B and enjoy some rap to but no-one specifically.
