How to Sign Up for Clubs and Activities It is expected that students take part in at least three Co-Curricular activities. This booklet will help you plan which ones to choose. The following pages provide an alphabetical list detailing the Clubs and Activities available. For the few activities that carry an additional charge, an indication of cost is given where possible. A pull-out termly timetable can be found in the centre of the booklet. There is also a notes page at the end of this booklet for you to make a note of which activities you would like to join. We recommend that you spend a little time over the Summer break reading through this booklet and making a note of the activities and clubs you would like to try on the blank pages at the back. At the start of the Autumn Term, bring this booklet complete with your notes to School with you. There will be opportunity during Tutorials to discuss your choices with your Tutor. What if the activity I wish to do has an additional cost? Although the majority of activities have no additional cost, there are a small number that do. New Students: If the club or activity you wish to join has an additional charge, then a Parent or Guardian will need to fill in and return the ‘Co-Curricular Subjects and Activities Request Form’. This is found in your Welcome Pack. This form is solely for activities that have an additional charge. Current Students: If you have already had permission granted by a Parent/Guardian to take part in a chargeable activity, then this will continue until the required notice is given. The notice period given only applies if a student wishes to leave a club part-way through the school year.

Please note, activities outlined within this booklet are subject to availability and may change throughout the year depending upon demand. New clubs may be added throughout the year, or removed, as required. Please refer to the website for latest timetables, confirmed prior to each half-term. 5

Co-Curricular at Cobham Hall Why Should I do any Co-Curricular Activities? Co-Curricular activities are a core element of life at Cobham Hall, fulfiling many of the traits the Personal Discovery Framework aims to develop. We are proud of the breadth of our Co-Curricular programme, and equally proud of the uptake. Students are encouraged, and often eager, to take part in a range of activities. Co-Curricular activities develop vital life skills such as teamwork, leadership, communication, resilience, determination, negotiation, perseverance and many more. Many also develop practical skills and enable students to discover new talents or enhance exisiting ones. Here are just a few more benefits of Co-Curricular activities.

Why join a Co-Curricular activity?

Practical skills

Co-Curricular Success at Cobham Hall Many of our students rank highly in music, sports disciplines such as triathlon, equestrianism and cross-country, as well as drama and art. Where possible, and where we feel a student is demonstrating exceptional ability, we work with external venues to further support students’ talents. What are Co-Curricular Colours? At the end of every Summer Term, students are awarded ‘Colours’, presented for excellence in, participation in, and dedication to Co-Curricular activities. Colours are awarded in Art, Music, Drama and Sport. In order to be awarded Colours, a student must have met the following criteria: • Shown continued participation in a Co-Curricular club or activity over a sustained period of time. This will be more than one term. • Shown commitment, responsibility and a positive attitude over a sustained period of time. • Shown a high level of personal performance in the relevant area. • Demonstrated a willingness to serve the best interests of the School when required to do so, for example, in sports teams.

Not Seen Anything For You? Your ideal club not here? Just ask! Get in touch with your Tutor, your Housemistress, or the Registrar if you are new to Cobham Hall. We have links with a variety of external tutors, coaches and venues to further support students’ interest and talents. It may be that where a club or activity is not offered, we may be able to arrange something. Alternatively, older students are always encouraged to and supported to establish or run clubs to develop their leadership skills. If you’d like to start your own club - recent examples include discussion groups, volleyball, and baking - then speak to your Tutor, Housemistress or a relevant member of staff. Once you’ve got an outline of the club you want to offer, when and where you want to run it, you can speak to Mrs Barrett, Headmistress, to get the club added to the school calendar. Need help promoting it? As well as putting posters up around School, you can ask Mrs Reid to add a note about your new club to the Parents’ Newsletter (sent weekly during term time) or on the TV Screens around school.
