Guardian Convention

Our highly anticipated annual Guardian Convention took place on Friday Mrs Barrett introduced proceedings, giving thanks for the wonderful work done by the 2022-23 Student Leadership Team, followed by a fine speech by outgoing Guardian Rhiannon, highlighting some of their greatest achievements.

Students and staff listened as teachers read references for each of the 2023-24 Guardian candidates, before Poppy, Natasha, Yaka and Alyssa took to the lectern to confidently present their applications. Each outlined their strengths, described what makes them a good leader, and explained which changes they would implement, if appointed. Some fantastic ideas were suggested, such as the introduction of Culture Day to celebrate Cobham Hall’s internationalism and the incorporation of the Arts into interhouse events.

The applicants then faced a round of difficult questions from tutor groups, such as “what makes you a good leader?”, followed by a question from the staff. Each candidate offered well-formulated and thought-through answers to the questions.

A huge congratulations to all of you for taking part and articulately presenting your ideas with such confidence.

Saturday Programme

Saturday 25th February at 9:15am12:30pm:

Digital Literacy for Parents

Mr Kipling invites Parents and Guardians to join his Saturday Programme this weekend:

“Digital literacy for parents is a Saturday programme designed to cover important aspects of the digital life of students at Cobham Hall School. The morning is divided into three distinct lessons to give parents and guardians an insight to the demands and impacts of the computing curriculum. You will be introduced to two skills-based competences and eSafety to help keep your children safe online. All skills are beginner level.

Computing Skills: Using Microsoft Word to explore keyboard shortcuts and efficient document creation methods.

Coding for Parents: You will be introduced to the Python coding language and will cover three important coding principles - sequence, variables, and selection. These form the foundation of your child’s coding education in school.

eSafety: Covering emerging threats to be aware of and how you can assist in keeping children safe against online dangers.

You may bring you own device should you wish, or you can use the school computers. Please make sure you have Microsoft Office – particularly MS Word. Please register via the School Cloud.”

Guardian Period

Monday afternoon saw our outgoing Student Leadership Team’s final Guardian Period. They celebrated their time as SLT, alongside the rest of the students, on the south lawn

All four houses took part in the event, uniting to create team posters for Interhouse Hockey, then competing against each other in a range of entertaining games, including tug of war.

Our Guardian, Rhiannon, Year 13, said, “it was great to see everybody come together and get so involved, and to see how close the houses are.”
