Driving farther and farther out of the city, the speed limit slows, the cars around you dwindle, and then… you see it. Gorgeous acres of pecan trees and white fences. Upon turning into The Orchards, a long driveway leads you through the property, past the glass house, the bridal suite, the greenhouse, and to a lush open field. Our team was trilled to capture the Fall 2024 cover photos at this one-of-a-kind venue.
The florals, by Floral Tree Affairs, elevated the romance by creating a stunning bouquet for our bride-to-be, a boutonniere for our sweet groom, and a jaw-dropping display of florals for the arbor. Made of 100 year old barnwood from Mississippi, the 9.5 foot tall arbor was curated and provided by the local event company Bash Pensacola.
The bridal glam was perfected with dreamy hair by Jaz Passion, soft makeup by Weber & Weekley, a biscotti a-line gown by The Bridal Loft, and dazzling jewelry from Dillard’s Pensacola. The groom was styled with a handsome navy blue suit and ivory tie from Gent’s Formal Wear.
A Coastal Weddings cover shoot couldn’t be complete without a deeply in love couple. Nicole & Trevor’s love can be seen through their heartwarming laughs and their soul-searching stares. We were overjoyed to celebrate their love as they prepare to tie the knot this October.
To capture this beautiful couple and the work of the talented vendor team, we enlisted the incredible Amy Clark of A.Lynne Photography. We couldn’t have fulfilled the cover vision without Amy’s skilled eye, fun spirit, and her ‘down for anything’ attitude!
A huge thank you to this visionary team for their time and their talents! We are honored to have spent this breathtaking evening in the sunset glow with each of you.

DEAR READER, W
hat is that one slogan you constantly remind yourself of? That one phrase that has seen you through various seasons of life. For me, it has always been ‘be a voice, not an echo.’ Be strong, don’t follow just to follow; be daring, don’t fall asleep to yourself and your dreams; and have the bravery to be your recklessly authentic self.
With this phrase in mind, I took a leap of faith into the wedding industry with a vision of using my voice to amplify messages of love and celebration. With each Coastal Weddings publication, our team is committed to showcasing the unparalleled talent of wedding vendors on the Gulf Coast. We are continuously in awe of and inspired by the love stories shared with us by newlywed couples and hope that engaged couples see themselves reflected in the landscape of the Emerald Coast.
Our team takes time to nurture creativity and foster relationships. We are committed to producing exciting, fresh content in useful and impactful ways. We aim to be a modern voice and pave a way that invites our readers to join us as we explore weddings along our coast.
In this issue, we highlight creators and ideas that are committed to authenticity. We venture to a coastal venue on Pensacola Beach, and dive into a catering craft with a love for traditional Southern-style food. We also recap the very first Gulf Coast Grand Wedding Giveaway, unveil advice on bridal shopping from expert bridal stylists, and provide curated professional honeymoon advice. As custom, you can expect to garner inspiration from real weddings and utilize the all-encompassing wedding resources.
This issue was inspired by the nostalgia of teen magazines from the early 2000s. Including fashion straight from the runway, Q&A interviews, and trending styles from the industry’s best - made complete with an upbeat quiz!
We hope you enjoy indulging in the excitement and novelty of the world of weddings. Happy planning!

With the help of over 30 vendors, engaged couples had the opportunity to enter to win a free wedding with the exciting debut of the Gulf Coast Grand Wedding Giveaway!
The idea was originated by the Phocus & Co team. Timothy Sewell, co-founder of Phocus and Co., states, “Every year we sit down as a team and dream of what our company is capable of for the following year. We ask ourselves ‘What can we do to stand out and make a difference in our community; and how could we promote growth in our vendors around us?’
This often sets the projection for our year and what we will set our sights on. Out of this tradition, the concept of the Gulf Coast Grand Wedding emerged.”
This $100,000 giveaway, presented in conjunction with Supposey Warehouse and Gardens, The Bridal Loft, and Ash & Air, includes over 30 vendors with services ranging from decor rentals to novelty experiences. This experience is sure to stand out in the community and give back to a deserving couple who are dreaming up their perfect wedding.
Applications for the competition opened in January and had over 100 couples enter. In March, the top five couples were announced and they began to garner votes from family, friends, and the community! The five finalists are pictured above and listed in order from left to right: Michaela and Thomas, Jordyn and Abel, Kayla and Quadarious, Lana and Ryan, and Lesley & Brandon.
If you’d like to follow along, the wedding planning process will be documented to highlight the experience at @phocusandco on Instagram!
Lesley & Brandon
Introducing the winners of the Gulf Coast Grand Wedding! Here’s their love story:
“My fiancé Brandon and I are so excited about this opportunity! We were born and raised in the Panhandle, and we were looking at venues and vendors in the Pensacola area. Supposey has been our top venue since day one, however, the only financial support we have for our wedding is going to be coming from ourselves. I work a full-time job as a school psychologist for Okaloosa county and I have recently taken a part-time job in order to help create and plan the wedding of our dreams. Brandon works a full-time job as well and has long hours most nights in order to support us and this next adventure in our lives. We met in high school but never admitted our attraction to each other until we were in college. We met at just 16 years old, working at a movie theater! Once Brandon stopped being so stubborn, we realized we were the perfect match. We have been together for 5 years and he asked me to marry him in the most beautiful and intimate way - on a sailboat, just the two of us! Brandon is the most amazing man I have ever known, and he has absolutely taken down every wall I’ve ever had up. I come from a single-mother household, and he has shown me what a true man is every single day. He puts himself before everyone and is always my #1 supporter. The love we share for one another is unique, and we have an unbreakable bond. We have gone through so much these last 5 years and we continue to choose one another every single day.”
Congratulations to the happy couple!

(1) The Rita gown, named after Rita Moreno, can be styled in 6 different ways. A dress that does it all is a bridal fashion dream, and this season more gowns are modifiable with multiple attachments! (2 & 3) Bows made a come back last season, and they aren’t leaving the scene anytime soon! Along with bridal bows, the newest in bridal fashion embraces all dramatic gown features. Whitney, the gown named after the iconic Whitney Houston, is adorned with 3D floral appliqués, pearls & crystals, and decorated with sleeves or tulle bow details.

Fashion is experiencing a regency era in the 21st century, and we are LOVING it! While sticking to tradition with the regency period’s unique design & full skirts, the current styles have taken grandeur to new heights. The Bridgerton Wedding exclusive collection is inspired by the Bridgerton Netflix series and designed by costume designer Lyn Paolo. (4) Gown BR1010 radiates romance with soft puffed sleeves, regal sequined lace, and a cathedral length train. (5) Color in bridal is a modern show stopper. BR1005 is available in traditional ivory but can also brave tradition in soft mauve. The silky mikado, corset structure, and full a-line skirting is the definition of royal attire.
The 18th annual Art of Fashion’s theme was Parisian Escape, and this year’s fashionista sponsors went above & beyond très chic. Featured local boutiques included S&K Boutique, Sobo Boutique, Randall’s Formal Wear, The Bridal Loft, Jen’s Designer Deals, Indigeaux Denim Bar & Boutique, and more! (6) The juxtaposition of classic/ clean in the front with a playful, oversized bow in the back is the epitome of current bridal fashion. The Billeigh Bow Dress from Sobo Boutique can be used for a bridal shower, bachelorette party, rehearsal dinner, or elopment!
(7) Randall’s Formal Wear showed the unique details that are appearing in tuxe/suit fashion with Ike Behar’s White Waverly, black vest, teardrop bow tie, and Euro slim pants. The White Waverly is a perfect “James Bond” formal look and is always a classic paired with black pants!
DREAMY DESTINATIONS
Danielle Wann Travel Designer & Owner of Epic Escapes Travel Co.Welcome to your personal guide for crafting the honeymoon of your dreams! Whether you’re imagining a sun-kissed beach escape, adrenaline fueled adventure, or a serene cruise, you’ve come to the right place. We wanted to provide the best insider tips on planning your honeymoon, so we reached out to Epic Escapes Travel Co. for their advice on how to turn your mood board into your romantic reality!
Epic Escapes is a local boutique travel agency focused on curating the best fit for each client individually. With a combined 30+ years of experience, their team prides themselves on being hands-on and engaging. They provide elite customer service and expert planning that clients won’t find by booking through an online supplier. The Epic Escapes team finds themselves building personal relationships from their professional services while working side by side with couples to build a dream getaway for clients. Here’s what they have to say about honeymoon planning!
Question: How can I make honeymoon planning as stress-free as possible?
We recognize that planning a dream honeymoon can be both exciting and overwhelming for newlywed couples. Choosing the ideal destination, creating a budget, and arranging romantic experiences can take a lot of time and effort - more than expected! Travel agents are a valuable resource for engaged couples planning their honeymoon. We are able to provide insider knowledge that is significant to destinations, budget, and one-of-a-kind activities. One of the best things that travel agents can offer is the management of your trip’s details such as lodging, transportation, flight tickets and information, and excursions. Wedding planning is already a stressful time, so having someone to handle the details of your trip is such a big relief.
Question: Do you have any recommended honeymoon destinations?
We love to recommend all-inclusive resorts! After months of wedding planning, what a couple often needs is to go somewhere that they have nothing to plan or worry about. Couples can choose from a variety of coastal destinations such as Cancun, Puerto Vallarta, Jamaica, and the Dominican Republic. These resorts offer a range of amenities, from swimming pools and beach access to on-site restaurants and bars. Many all-inclusive resorts also include water sports, such as kayaking and snorkeling, in their packages. We believe that an unforgettable honeymoon is filled with luxury, relaxation, and endless romantic moments, and an all-inclusive resort is a great way to get it all!
Question: We’re curious about cruise honeymoons! Can you tell us more?
Cruising is a fantastic option for couples who want to visit multiple destinations and have their food and drink already planned and provided! It doesn’t matter which destination you choose. Whether it’s tropical beaches, the Alaskan coast,
or European cities, any cruise offers the perfect blend of luxury, adventure, and romance! Plus, you get to wake up to a new, breathtaking destination every day. Cruising is also a great value for money, as it includes many amenities and activities that would be expensive if booked separately, such as entertainment, water parks, and fitness classes. Embarking on a journey of love and adventure aboard a luxurious cruise is a fantastic way to start a marriage!
Question: What are ways to cut down on honeymoon costs?
One fun budgeting tip is to ask for honeymoon funds as a wedding gift. Adding honeymoon funds to your registry ensures that your loved ones can contribute to creating unforgettable memories together at the start of your married lives! If the couple does decide to pay for the trip themselves, we also suggest booking the trip far enough out from the travel dates that you are able to make payments on your trip. Our final piece of money-saving advice is for the couple to be flexible with their travel dates and destinations. With careful planning and budgeting, couples can create a memorable honeymoon that best fits their wants, needs, and budget.
Question: I’ve picked my honeymoon destination… What do I pack?
Pack light, but don’t forget the essentials: travel documents, toiletries, electronics, travel accessories. When packing clothing, try to pack pieces that are versatile and could be worn a couple times throughout the trip. Also, don’t forget to leave room for souvenirs to bring back home! Having a travel agent assist you with your honeymoon will ensure that you have destination-specific information that could help you properly prepare for your romantic getaway!

O W E R C O U P L E
PLEASE WELCOME...
Chandra and Corey McKern of the Pensacola Opera have a beautiful and supportive partnership. The couple first met after an audition. Corey recounts the moment: “I saw this beautiful tall blonde with an amazing voice do this audition, so I timed when she was leaving- I like went out to cut her off in the pass and she was like struggling with all these books- I said can I hold your books and she said ‘Who are you, Leave it to Beaver?”
The rest is history! After multiple moves around the country and career opportunities creating long distance relationship stretches, Corey, Chandra, and their children have called Pensacola home since 2015.
Our team wanted to ask them their top tips for a successful and loving marriage!
Chandra & Corey McKern
WHAT IS YOUR #1 TIP FOR A SUCCESSFUL/LOVING/LASTING MARRIAGE?
Corey: Everyone knows marriage is challenging, but the amazing thing about marriage is you build equity with the person. You share life experiences... then you develop your own footprint for your relationship, for your family. Embrace the change, embrace the journey, and don’t take it all so seriously.
Chandra: We have fun and joke around! And communication, of course, is key. We’ve obviously grown and changed a lot since we were 25 years old, but the genuine love and support we have for each other is no different from when we were 25.
WHAT IS YOUR #1 TIP FOR A SUCCESSFUL/LOVING/LASTING MARRIAGE?
Corey: I hope this isn’t unromantic to say, but marriage, engagement, the thought of having a family, is a romantic endeavor in our mind. But the actual practicality of executing all of that is sometimes not the most romantic. Marriage is a skill. Managing to stay focused on your marriage while you’re raising a family healthily and succeeding at your career is no easy task. So we all have to give ourselves a break and enjoy the ride.
IS THERE ANYTHING YOU WOULD CHANGE OR THINK ABOUT DIFFERENTLY FOR YOUR WEDDING DAY?
Corey & Chandra: I think we would’ve stayed longer at the reception! We felt rushed to leave the reception and wanted to continue the party with friends and family!
Chandra & Corey
IF YOU COULD GIVE YOUR MARRIAGE A SLOGAN, WHAT WOULD IT BE AND WHY?
Corey: *responds without hesitation* Chandra my not like this but, I treat marriage like a bull riding contest ‘good luck buckin’ me off!
Chandra & Corey: George Bistro, Jackson’s, Union Public House, Pearl & Horn YOUR FAVORITE LOCAL DATE NIGHT SPOTS
ADVICE FOR BALANCING CAREER AND MARRIAGE?
Chandra: Make it a priority to put work aside. It’s essential to have quality time and not be a workaholic.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE AS FAR AS FINANCES ARE CONSIDERED?
Corey: Marriage is like several different things under one umbrella. It’s a romantic relationship, it’s also a business relationship- you’re kind of maintaining a household budget, and that’s something that has to be worked on together: Finances, habits, values, job, idea of family.
Chandra: We started sharing finances before we were married, but we have some friends that still have separate finances. It depends on the couple.
ANY FINAL THOUGHTS OR PIECES OF ADVICE FOR OUR ENGAGED READERS?
Corey: Be proactive in working on yourself rather than getting to a point where life becomes difficult.
Chandra: Have the hard conversations first. Don’t let it happen after you’re married. Open honest communication from the get-go will do you a lot of favors.
AUDUBON DESIGN
An Audubon inspired styled-shoot capturing Gulf Coast elegance and designed by talented local artists & wedding vendors.
Written &Coordinated
by Rebekah Frenkel & Jennifer Counselman Fete & Flora EventsBeing from the beautiful Gulf Coast, we find so much beauty and inspiration from our local beaches. With the white sand dunes and the natural sea oats many couples come to our beaches to get married.
Favorite Design Element:
Our favorite design element was the fabric for the table runner. The fabric was our inspiration for the color palette and overall design. It was inspired by nature with the earth tones and the herring. We see herrings all the time along the water on the Gulf Coast. It’s a stately bird that also has an air of graceful demeanor.
When we found this Audubon inspired heron fabric we knew we had to design a shoot around it. Our vision celebrates the love of coastal elements against a backdrop of sunkissed dunes and timeless sophistication.
Nestled among the dunes, our hand hewed wooden table was adorned with a floral arrangement that incorporates loose, organic florals. A mixture of sea grasses and native blooms were used to help evoke that windswept beauty of the coastal landscape.
Personal Touches: Use family heirlooms as part of your decor. For instance, we used a vintage Audubon naturalist book for flat lay details and other elements in the paper suite.
DIY Moments:
Our DIY moment was the favor boxes for our guests. We know there are a lot of mixed feelings about guest favors. However, we love the idea of a little treat for them to enjoy while they wait to be served or save for later. We sourced the candies from a local candy store. We personalized our boxes by wrapping handmade mulberry paper around it and sealed them with a wax seal that has a heron design. The handmade mulberry paper is reminiscent of the sea oats and other grasses found among our dunes.
How to Pull off the Look:
For Brides and Grooms looking to recreate this look, we suggest a location that gives you a view of the water but one that also backdrops the dunes and tall grasses. An elegant coastal design lies in simplicity, so be open to incorporating the natural elements of the beach without falling into the cliche
Repurposing items is a great way to make your budget go farther. For this photo shoot, we repurposed the Escort Wall to a different location and used it as a Champagne Wall for toasts.
of a typical beach wedding. Turquoise and aqua are beautiful, but the Gulf Coast palette has so much more to offer. Taking into account our sugar sand beaches, tall sea grasses, and dunes, the Gulf Coast gives more color options and texture that should be considered when designing coastal beach weddings.

Bridal Shopping
UNVEILED
There are a lot of myths out there about the bridal shopping experience. The Bridal Loft’s team of expert stylists is here to debunk some of the most common myths!
By: Alyssa Gryb, Madison Whiting, Erin Foster, & Alyssa Graham-SommervilleBridal ShoppingUNVEILED
MYTH: “I need to get everyone’s opinion first.”
We completely understand feeling the need to seek out the opinions of your most important people. While at the same time, you deserve to make a decision that is for you!
So many of the wedding day choices are catered to the best interest of your loved one’s- which is fantastic! But don’t you deserve a decision that is wholly and fully yours?
We definitely encourage you to shop with your crew and share the experience with as many of your people as you desire - just stay in tune with your most true feelings on the quest to find a gown reflective of who you are.
Nobody knows that more than you!
MYTH: “The perfect dress will make me cry as soon as I put it on.”
Saying yes to a dress will look different for every bride who finds their gown! While many brides burst into tears after stepping into their dress, others will try their dress on two or three times to analyze what they love about it before saying yes.
Your ‘yes’ moment is as special, and different, as each bride is! We encourage you not to put these kinds of expectations on yourself. You’ll never truly know how you’ll react when you find your dress until it happens!
MYTH: “Off the rack gowns are not as nice as an ordered gown.”
Off the rack gowns are generally highly sought after designer dresses with the convenience of not having a waiting period. These gowns are never worn, and never altered, sample gowns that the store either can no longer get shipped in, or is in a collection that is no longer carried. Off the rack gowns are great for brides with a short timeline, last-minute weddings, or any bride who believes that some things are meant to be!
MYTH: “My budget will limit me.”
Many brides come in and expect to spend many thousands of dollars to buy a designer gown. That is simply not true! Your dream dress will be your dream price, so stores often offer a wide range of prices for their gowns.
MYTH: “I should stick to a specific silhouette based on my body type.”
We’ve all seen illustrations of bridal silhouettes paired with body shapes. And while it’s true that each silhouette impacts your frame in different ways, you can wear whatever the heck you want. Really. As long as you feel comfortable and confident, you can pull off any look, style, or shape that you desire!
Realistically, we know that we are each intune with our own insecurities. So maybe that means you’re looking for a dress with sleeves, and that’s perfectly okay. But we’re here to tell you that you don’t need sleeves, you don’t need a specific neckline. What you DO need is a dress that makes you smile, details you can’t live without, and the confidence that you found the right look for YOU! All this to say, unlearn everything you’ve absorbed regarding what you are “supposed to wear,” and enjoy the journey of discovering what you are excited to wear. You got this!
REAL WEDDINGS
Bailey & Marcus
Marcus, 23 & a kind hearted farmhand, met Bailey, 21 & a strong-willed college student, the summer of 2021. It didn’t take long for Marcus and Bailey to learn that they loved each other with every breath they took. With time, they went their separate ways. Marcus set off to become a pilot, and Bailey went to nursing school. After completing each program they reconnected. Bailey would get off her night shifts in the early mornings and rush to the fields where she would watch Marcus fly and spray the crops. Marcus would call Bailey and tell her about the land he could see from the air where he would want to build their forever home one day. With every night that turned into light, they would find themselves drawn closer to one another and what their lives could be together. Just when they thought it was time to get married, God had different plans. A baby girl named Finley was born January 2023. She started the real love story. Now Marcus, 25, and Bailey, 23, are married. They had a garden party wedding on their family farm in early November of 2023. This is where they promised to hold onto each other forever. That day came to an end but you can feel their love with every sunrise since then.

REAL WEDDINGS
Summer & Allie
We met on a dating site at the end of 2021 and rang in the new year together shortly after. I (Allie) asked her to be my girlfriend on NYE at the Islander, and by February, I knew I wanted to marry her (they say when you know, you know). Eight months later, we had a photo shoot planned at Fort Pickens for “Christmas cards” and I got down on one knee and asked her to be my wife.
I (Summer), obviously said yes and was over the moon when Allie surprised me with a party with all of our friends and family after the photo shoot. We had a blast (a stressful blast) planning our wedding and we finally said our “I dos” on December 2nd, 2023. We planned to have a beach wedding but it poured all day (special thanks to Bodacious and Emily for saving the day and allowing us to use their space as our rain plan). Allie forgot her veil, we forgot the rings, we were an hour late, and our baby flower girl had a diaper blowout right before walking down the aisle. But we wouldn’t have had it any other way. The story we get to tell now makes all the hiccups seem like nothing. All that mattered was the love we felt for each other and the fun we had.
I (Allie) may be biased, but our story is my favorite love story. I wouldn’t want to do life with anyone other than Summer.

Sarah Grace & Mansfield
Mansfield and I met on his birthday, so it was only appropriate that we got married on my 30th birthday. We’re both very close with our families and wanted to include as many nods to that in our day as possible. We held the ceremony at my family church in Pensacola and the reception at his family’s picturesque property on Pensacola Bay. Our colors were light tones of pink, green, blue and white which looked stunning against the backdrop of the property’s mossy trees and water view. To add to the whimsy of the night we lined the walkways with candles and a light-lined “Tunnel of Love”. It was truly the most amazing weekend of our lives!

REAL WEDDINGS
Abigail & Aaron
Abigail and Aaron Funke met in high school but didn’t connect until years later, thanks to Abigail’s brother who played cupid and matched the two together. They had always dreamt of their wedding being at the beach and always thought of having a smaller, intimate wedding, which is the perfect way to describe their day. Abigail and Aaron decided to stray from the tradition of exchanging vows during their ceremony and instead exchanged them in private on the beach. Both of them talked about how they couldn’t believe that they were marrying their best friend. Tears along with some laughs were exchanged and the reality of it all was settling in as they headed to their ceremony. Once their ceremony was over, they finished hanging out with guests for the beginning of cocktail hour. Then, they went down to the ocean and took some portraits and watched the sunset.

Kaitlyn & J.R.
Kaitlyn and J.R. met in Korean class their senior year of college at Ole Miss. They have been absolute best friends ever since. Kaitlyn says that J.R. is the love of her life, he is so supportive of everything she does , and he makes her laugh like no one else can. Shortly after falling in love, J.R. moved away to go to flight school, and Kaitlyn moved to South Korea to work as an English teacher under the FullBright grant. Thanks to her wonderful family and planner, Kaitlyn was able to do all of her wedding planning from across the world.
Kaitlyn & J.R.’s wedding day was nothing short of breathtaking. Every little detail was so beautifully curated. A few things that stood out to me was the couple’s sweet emotion when seeing each other for the first time in their wedding attire, the beautiful bow details that were carefully placed on the bridesmaids’ dresses, and how both of their families came together in such a heartwarming way to celebrate their love. Kaitlyn and J.R. are without a doubt a match made in heaven.

The Best Way to Thank Your Wedding Team!
Calling all engaged people who are meeting vendors, securing packages, and loving the services you are receiving: have you left those vendors a review? I know, I know, yet another thing to add to the seemingly never-ending list of to-do’s.
Let’s think about it this way… How did you find the vendors you are working with?
Did you Google them, or maybe read some reviews? Chances are, the online reviews or word of mouth recommendations you received impacted who you selected to be part of your wedding team.
Which is great!
Your vendors rely largely on the experiences and recommendations of their previous clients.
Your unique team of wedding vendors thoroughly enjoy being part of your love story & adding to the wedding day magic.
And the best thank you that you could give is a review for future couples to see!
