Woman’s Club student art show

Junior Ranger Day

Channel Islands National Park will host Junior Ranger Day on April 15, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the park sAt. visitor center at 1901 Spinnaker Drive in the Ventura Harbor. The free annual event will feature family friendly activities, ranger-led talks and the park’s junior ranger programs. Children will have the opportunity to participate in three different junior ranger programs at the event, allowing them to earn badges as a Channel Islands National Park Junior Ranger, an Underwater Explorer or a Junior Paleontologist. Family-friendly activities for children of all ages will include fish prints, buttons and dolphin masks. Ranger-led presentations throughout the day will cover marine mammal and bird beak adaptations and ocean stewardship. Call 658-5730 for more information.

Braille Institute Open House

Braille Institute Santa Barbara will celebrate National Library Week with an afternoon of books, fun activities, storytelling, authors and hands-on demonstrations. Attendees can also explore the Braille Institute’s state-of-the-art library and library services on Thursday, April 13 from 1:30 to 5 p.m. at 2031 De La Vina St., Santa Barbara. Local author Lee Wardlow and book narrator Yvette Keller will be on hand, as well as storyteller Michael Katz. The event is free and refreshments will be served. Benefit concert at the Plaza

Samantha Kuskey is fighting advanced stage ovarian cancer as a single mother to her 10-year-old daughter Kira. On Thursday, April 13 at 7:30 p.m. Carpstrong will present Cornerstone and Friends in a concert to support Kuskey in her illness. Cornerstone has been pumping out high-energy reggae since 2005 with a unique sound, while staying true to the fundamentals of roots reggae. Having shared the stage with musical legends such as Burning Spear, Gregory Isaacs, Don Carlos, Toots and the Maytals and many more, Cornerstone has an urban reggae sound like no other. Local authors Mark Brickley and Topaz Jan Abbott will hold a book signing for their individual works on on Saturday, April 15 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Laughing Buddha Thrift, 771 Linden Ave. Brickley will present his new book, “Postcards From Liverpoool: Beatles Moments & Memories.” Signed copies will be available for purchase, and the author will share rare backstories culled from The Beatles’ musical legacy, including 40 original photographs of Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Ravi Shankar and Pattie Boyd/Harrison. Abbott will also present her work of original verse and photographs, titled “From My Mother’s Heart.” Live music will be provided by several local songwriters and refreshments and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
