WELCOME MESSAGE WELCOME MESSAGE from the Project Heads
RecWeek is here, Ateneans!
After the adjustments from an online to a hybrid arrangement, the community of organizations in Ateneo proved to be capable as each and everyone sought all opportunities to maximize their potential and fulfill their advocacies, regardless of the mode of operation. Now, we are equipped and thrilled to venture into a primarily onsite mode as organizations open their doors once again and welcome you all to this year ’ s RecWeek 2023: Dreamlane!
In Dreamlane, we encourage Ateneans to create their own stories and build their dream house by first discovering themselves and reigniting their dreams. With numerous paths to take in different organizations that may seem overwhelming, we hope that RecWeek can serve as an aid in discovering each organization and finding the community that will lead you to your own Dreamlane. There is comfort in knowing that there is not a standardized journey nor a linear path presented, but for each Atenean is a unique path to explore which you can call your own story. Hence, Dreamlane serves only as an avenue to obtain familiarity with the people and communities, but your story is yours to create and your lane is yours to discover. As we move forward, together with all organizations and groups, let us cultivate a better community as we continue to carry out our advocacies, while building our own dream house.
Finally we ’ re homeward bound!
Always in service, Kayla and Daphne
What is COA-M? What is COA-M?
The Council of Organizations of the Ateneo - Manila (COA-M) is the sole, autonomous confederation of all fifty-four (54) duly-accredited student organizations of the Ateneo de Manila University Loyola Schools.
We are an empowered and collaborative community of competent organizations and holistically formed students ready to proactively respond to the challenges of our time and initiate positive changes within the Ateneo community and the greater society through the Ignatian tradition of service and excellence.
Our role is to organize and coordinate events, activities and initiatives that support and empower student organizations to pursue their advocacies, projects, and events. We work to promote a vibrant and flourishing organization life in the Ateneo.
What is COA RecWeek?
What is COA RecWeek?
COA-M Recruitment Week (COA RecWeek) is the biggest annual recruitment event organized by the Council of Organizations of the Ateneo Manila (COA-M). Through this event, all accredited organizations under COA-M, the Confederation of Publications (COP), and the Student Arms and Groups (SAG) gather together to showcase themselves and open applications for new and returning members.
COA RecWeek 2023 COA RecWeek 2023
Every year, COA RecWeek finds better and more innovative ways of showcasing the organizations and celebrating the vibrant org community. As we see social distancing protocols ease, COA RecWeek 2023 sees the opportunity to host events, activities and initiatives that gives students the opportunity to interact with organizations. With the practices gleaned from the purely-onsite iteration from 2019 and back, the online set-up of 2020 and 2021 and finally the hybrid set-up of 2022, we bring you a RecWeek that combines all three into a new normal.
RecWeek stays true to its function of providing a centralized platform for promotions and registration, in order to present all the different organizations in an equal space. This year we are hosting the largest RecWeek, as 2023 sees the first-ever collaboration between the COA-M and the League of Independent Organizations (LIONS). All these organizations comprise the vibrant org community of the Ateneo. This partnership will allow students to see all the possibilities ahead of them; for growth, solidarity, and self-discovery.

Organization Application Fees
When applying for organizations, a question that commonly pops up on a student’s mind is: Do we need to pay for anything? Well, the short answer to that is, it depends on the organization!
What are application fees?
Application fees, from its name, are payments charged by some organizations as a part of their application process. Do note that, generally, registration fees do not guarantee a slot in the organization being applied to. The price of application fees vary per org, however, for RecWeek 2023, the maximum amount that an organization can charge for registration is capped at Php 100.
Why are application fees needed?
Application fees are collected by some organizations in order to fund their start-of-year initiatives such as their screening processes and welcoming events as well as other projects they plan to implement throughout the year. In addition, orgs that work with certain sectors (i.e. orgs under sectorbased clusters) use the proceeds of these fees to supplement the projects and services they intend to offer to their partner communities.
Which orgs collect application fees?
As mentioned earlier, only some organizations require their applicants to pay for these fees. You can find out which orgs collect application fees in pages 25-32 of this primer!
Modes of Payment
Payment for application fees will be done strictly online, the specific platform depends on each org ’ s internal processes but usually you can pay through GCash, Paymaya or Bank Transfer. Details regarding the payment methods will be provided on the application form.
Fully Onsite: Is it Any Different?
After two years in the online setting and another hybrid setting, we are finally back fully-onsite! Last year was full of excitement as we finally entered the campus and saw each other face-to-face for the first time. So, is fully onsite even any different?
In the past years, organizations and student groups went through never before seen innovations where they explored new avenues to conduct events, connect with members and strengthen their advocacies. We have seen their creativity, resourcefulness and passion as the Ateneo Org life continued to thrive both despite of and because of the global pandemic.
Last year, in hybrid, we learned and relearned old systems and processes while bringing together everything we have learned while we were apart. In these times of uncertainty, we were able to keep growing, learning, and tapping into our boundless potential. This year, we have rebuilt our homes and we are ready to welcome you and all your fresh new ideas in!
Let’s make orgs home again! Drive through the Dreamlane in RecWeek 2023.

Org Term Glossary
It’s one thing to join organizations, but it’s another thing to understand all of the different terms used by its members! While different orgs add their own flair by incorporating unique terms and slang words, we ’ ve compiled a short list of the most common ones to add to your vocab list!
EB & CB Core Team
EB and CB stand for Executive Board and Central Board, respectively. EB is composed of the President and the Vice Presidents for each org department such as External Relations, Human Resources and Finance. The CB, also known as Managerial Board, consists of the EB members as well as their respective Assistant Vice Presidents and/or Deputies who serve as the second-in-command to the EB. These titles may vary per organization.
Each org project is organized by a core team that is in charge of planning and executing the project. Headed by Project Manager/s (also known as Project Head/s), the core team consists of different departments such as Programs, Finance, Marketing, Logistics, and Secretariat. However, depending on the type of project, the committees included in the core teams may vary.
In ICs or Individual Consultations, an org member privately talks with their org mate, who is usually an org officer. These informal and casual talks could tackle questions and concerns about different matters, may they be org related or not. During Recruitment Season, ICs serve as a getting to know you session before getting admitted into the org. Throughout the school year, ICs could be a simple kamustahan session!
IC
Org Term Glossary
GA Activity Hour
GAs or General Assemblies, is a meeting with all of the members of the organization. Usually occurring every start of the semester, GAs serve as a period for important org-wide announcements and an opportunity for org bonding! Make sure to watch out for the GA of your new organizations to learn about the org ’ s activities for the school year.
The activity hours are school administration-mandated times dedicated for extra-curricular activities! Major org events are usually conducted during this time because there are no synchronous academic activities during this period. In School Year 2023-2024, the Activity Hours are on Tuesday and Friday at 5:00 - 6:30 PM.
OSA
The Office for Student Activities (OSA) is the student formation office that guides and supports the orgs in planning and implementing their initiatives. They also ensure that the org initiatives uphold the values and thrusts of Ateneo.
MVP
MVP refers to Manuel V. Pangilinan Center for Student Leadership building which is located at the Red Brick Road. This holds individual org rooms where most orgs and their members used to tambay and conduct their meetings and member bondings. This is one of the best areas that org members can use and go to as a way to socialize and meet new people from their respective organizations.
Org Term Glossary
SWOT
The SWOT also known as SWOT Analysis Framework highlights the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities and Threats of different subject matters. This framework is commonly used by orgs to examine the projects implemented, the performance of the EB and/or CB and the organization as a whole. Pro Tip: this may be used during your interviews!
Tambay Week
From the name itself, Tambay Week is a week-long event that org members can join to meet new people, and hangout with one another through engaging in games and activities. It also welcomes new members and allows them to get to know the organization more.
In PlanSem (Planning Seminar) or PlevSem (Planning and Evaluation Seminar), the members of the Executive Boards and/or Central Boards meet to present their project plans and visions for their departments. They also conduct evaluations of the organization based on the past year.

Interview Tips Interview Tips
Applying to be #BSOrg usually entails having to go through each organization’s unique screening process. Some require you to answer forms and submit outputs, while others hold auditions and challenges. Among all these processes though, one that you’ll find really hard to miss in any application is the interview!
What are interviews?
Interviews are essentially one-on-one assessments conducted by an organization as a way to know more about their applicants better! They are an integral part of the application process and tend to weigh a lot during the deliberations.
During these interviews, you are given the opportunity to select your preferred department within the organization, assess the skills you want to or acquire, learn more about the organization, and clarify any questions or concerns you may have.
What can you expect?
While the interviews vary per organization, there are also frequently asked questions that you may prepare for prior to your interview. These questions may involve, but are not limited to the following: your reason for applying, your strengths and weaknesses, and your expectations from the organization. Situationers are also a staple in interviews for the organization to gauge your response to certain situations typically centered on your preferred department.

When we say that your calendar is your savior, we mean it! With the number of GAs, meetings, and interviews you’ll be attending, it’s easy to lose track of what’s next. Calendaring your events will make it easier to avoid any overlaps or issues with scheduling, so make sure to check your calendars first before scheduling your interviews!
Tip: Use weekly views on your calendar so it won’t look too overwhelming, you’ll even be able to see how your schedule is blocked! 2
Familiarize yourself with the organization
Stepping into an interview, you aren’t expected to know every little detail about the organization, but it would be best to familiarize yourself with their advocacies or mission and vision. You can prepare for this by looking through their previous projects or their social media pages, maybe even ask your friends who are members about their experience!
Tip: When applying to any organization, they usually ask about your priorities. While it may be tempting to say that every org is your first priority, the members actually really appreciate it when you ’ re honest with them about your level of commitment :)

While no prior experience is needed to join an organization, it is best to list down any related experiences you may have with the position or department you ’ re applying for. Prior to your interview, make sure to recall as much of your experience as possible so that you ’ re able to tell your interviewee about it with ease when they ask.
Otherwise, don’t worry about having no experience, that’s exactly what you’ll get from the organizations here in Ateneo!
4
Come prepared!
Sometimes interviews will integrate challenges in them that require bringing materials or producing an output. Make sure to have these ready before your interview! In case you have any questions or clarifications, it’s also best to prepare your questions beforehand so you don’t forget to ask your interviewer. Don’t worry, they actually really appreciate it when you ask questi !

As a freshie who was still adjusting to college, I was quite hesitant to put myself out there at first and explore org life. What eventually drove me to apply for several organizations was wanting
to become more involved in t leadership and communicatio org experience has definitely only was I able to learn mor community, but I was also able to gain meaningful experiences that I will bring with me throughout my life. I was able to interact with so many people, build friendships along the way, and truly connect with the advocacies I've always stood for. Most of all, my time in mostly sector-based orgs has played a major role in igniting my passion to serve and helping me become a more empathic person.
I’d say one of the most fulfilling experiences I’ve had as an orgactive student is seeing how both your personal and team efforts can lead a project to success . Honestly, the journey is hard and exhausting sometimes but personally, it has always been worth it. There’s nothing like celebrating with your team members after an event, knowing that all your hard work has paid off. That said, the orgs I’ve joined have shaped me for the better and have quite literally become my home within the Ateneo.

What compelled me to try and be a part of the organizations I am affiliated with right now is the recognition that I had shared passions with them. I saw that being a part of a collective that
works to achieve shared interests made me feel more at home in the Ateneo while, at the same time, achieving my personal advocacies.
It has been really worth it! I initially joined these organizations because of their purpose and advocacies which were in line with mine, but it has been the connections, friendships, bonds, and memories I have made which made it even more worthwhile to me. This is something I think that is very unique to the Ateneo org experience - the way different people from different courses could connect, bond, and relate to each other through shared lived experiences in the spirit of what the org they are in is about.
Freshman year is a year of explorations and I advise you to scout your choices! You could join your passions, your interests, or just because they sound cool! Nurture your social life through making different connections and participating in their activities. When the time comes, you will naturally feel which organizations speak the most to you, and which ones you could take an even bigger part in.
If you ’ re an upperclassman like me who is looking for another org or is getting into the culture just now, you ’ re not alone, and you ’ re definitely not left out! Ateneo orgs are for everyone! They are definitely the highlight of the Ateneo college experience - well, for me at least.

Joining organizations in my college life was one of the priorities I put my mind into when I was a freshman. From mentors and people from batches ahead of me, they always said that it would be a good experience to join these organizations as it would help me grow as an individual and gain experience for the real world. Joining one was a transformative decision that enriched my academic journey and it instilled in me a profound appreciation for the arts, a sense of discipline, and an enduring camaraderie that will forever make my university life memorable. Being a member of the right organization is a thrilling journey that will expose you to a world that enhances your self-expression and growth, and it is an experience you won’t forget.
