National Tree Day A Huge Success in NS!

n September 26, groups across Canada took time out of their days to celebrate one of our great natural resources, the tree. CNLA members across the country demonstrated the true spirit of our industry by partnering with almost 90 schools to teach students about trees by donating and planting one (or more) on school property. The purpose of matching schools with Member Company was to provide the opportunity for industry professionals

students had remembered them. Other members returned to schools that they had attended as students, giving them the opportunity to give back. This year in Nova Scotia, Down to Earth Gardening & Landscaping planted a tree that was donated by Blomidon Nurseries, with the students of Port Williams Elementary; MacPhee’s Landscaping Services spent time with the students of Dutch Settlement Elementary School planting a tree that was donated by Elmsdale Landscaping Ltd; Highland Landscapes for Lifestyle planted a tree they donated to Sherwood Park Education Centre, Sydney; and Elmsdale Landscaping Ltd donated and planted at tree to the Elmsdale Square. Overall, response on both sides was very positive for those that participated. Schools that participated indicate that it was a very enjoyable event; the children were very

There are so many benefits that come with teaching the next generation how to care for plants, including raising their awareness of the surrounding environment and piquing an interest in our industry. Plans are already in the works for National Tree Day 2013.
