MESSAGE from the... What's up CNH! I hope you're all adjusting to the cool autumn weather and studying hard for all of your exams! Can you believe that we're already more than halfway through the 2019-2020 term? Reflect on all of the ways you've served your local communities, all of the friendships you've found through this organization, and even all of the things you've done to lead your club. Time flies so fast, but we still have five months left to go and so much for you to experience!

Thank you to those who attended Crazy Kompetition for Infants (CKI) North/South or Fall Training Conference (FTC) this year, and I hope you had a really great time. We raised thousands of dollars At CKI North/South to benefit the Pediatric Trauma Program, and officially inducted hundreds of new members into our Kiwanis Family at FTC! If you weren't able to attend these events, don't worry because we have more District Events just around the corner for you to attend, such as our District Large Scale Service Project (DLSSP) and of course, District Convention (DCON) 2020!

Until then, continue being a positive force within your clubs, developing your own leadership abilities, and serving your communities to the best of your abilities. See you all very soon!

DISTRICT GOVERNOR // Wayne Cheng, San Francisco State University

Happy Autumn CNH! It’s that time of year where the leaves are falling and the weather is getting cold. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty excited to bust out all my sweaters and fuzzy jackets for the season. We’re approaching the end of 2019 and that also means the end of the term is also near! I hope that each and every one of you look at this issue of The Sunburst and see all the amazing things you’ve accomplished so far in the term. From welcome week to CKI North/South to FTC, my committee and I really enjoyed reading your stories and gathering all your photos from various events. The Sunburst honestly wouldn’t exist without your contributions so thank you to everyone who submitted articles and allowed us to interview you. We have little over four months left in the term, so let’s all finish strong! As always, stay sunny CNH!

DISTRICT C&M CHAIR // Erica Wei, University of California, San Diego Hi Hello CNH! As we venture through this crazy autumn season, remember to take a moment and slow down to reminisce in the memories made throughout the year. These past few months have been full of laughs and smiles and I truly enjoy reading all the articles and seeing all the pictures taken throughout the district. From sharing our CKI experiences with new members at tabling sessions and first general meetings, to competing in teams at CKI North/South, to finding the culprit at Fall Training Conference and everything in-between. I'm sure whatever event or moment it is, these memories have left an imprint on you and your CKI journey. As 2019 slowly comes to an end, be sure to make the most of each and every moment here in Sunny CNH!

Hello again, CNH! Fall has been super busy for our district; I hope everyone has been having a great time during this jam-packed season! On the next page, you’ll find out district's totals from March-October!

I just wanted to give a huge shoutout to all of you for your hard work and time that you’ve put into this organization. Every bit of time you’ve spent hasn’t gone unnoticed - keep up the great work! Also, I’d love to give a big thank you to all of the Secretaries (and Presidents) who turn in Monthly Report Forms! All of you have been working so so hard and it shows through your MRFs that you submit every month!

DISTRICT SECRETARY // Jennifer Sandoval, Sacramento State University

Hullo Sunny CNH! I can’t believe that CKI N/S & FTC are already over!!! The fall has been jam packed with so many exciting events put on by you and our clubs and I really hope everyone has been enjoying them and meeting new people.

You all have done tremendous work in making a difference throughout the communities you serve and it has definitely not gone unnoticed! A huge special shoutout to all the Treasurers and Fundraising Chairs who have worked so hard to fundraise for our District Fundraising Initiatives and outside charities. As seen by our district totals you all have made a HUGE impact and continue to help bring greater awareness to these wonderful causes. Keep up the great work CNH and I can’t wait to see you all again soon! DISTRICT TREASURER // Kevin Ru, University of California, Los Angeles

Hello There Sunny CNH,
My name is Racheal Fairley and I am your International Trustee. To start off, I wanted to thank you all for inviting me to the 2019-2020 Fall Training Conference. I had such a blast and I will always remember my first-time visiting California. I had a lot of firsts. Another being eating at In-and Out Burger. I was in California for only three days and I promise I had this restaurant four to five times. Even though I have safely made it back to Alabama, you cannot get rid of me that easily. I hope to see you all at CNH District Convention. You will surely see me there! On a more serious note, although the Fall semester is coming to an end, growing and learning more about Circle K never ramps down! You all are doing such a great job with your service and membership thus far! I cannot wait to see how much you all have grown when I pass the torch in July at International Convention in Las Vegas, Nevada. Keep being such amazing CKI members and keep being sunny CNH!

INTERNATIONAL TRUSTEE // Racheal Fairley, University of Alabama

Fall is an active time for Key to Colleges, as seniors face college applications!

Many schools such as UC Berkeley, USC, & CSU Fullerton have had successful Key to Colleges, that included college panels, and workshops.

KEY TO COLLEGE There are more Key to Colleges to come as we now enter the period of college acceptance letters!

We have had many Kiwanis Family related events, especially with Kiwanis One Day in October, and Kiwanis Family Month in November! Along with spreading awareness of the different branches through social media, clubs and divisions alike have been working with the Kiwanis Family to continuously give back to the community.

For example, coming up with Kiwanis Family Service Day, we have Citrus' Give Thanks, Dessert Oasis working with the Kiwanis Family at Opportunity Village Thrift Store, and Foothill working with the Pasadena Educational Foundation. Another big Kiwanis Family Event to look out for is Sacramento State's Gift of Giving! Don't forget to also get involved and talk to your officers about having Kiwanis Family Events to get to know the other branches! ROSELYN DUONG // SACRAMENTO STATE DISTRICT KIWANIS FAMILY FOUNDATION CHAIR 19-20

UC Davis CKI held our 7th Annual Kiwanis Picnic this past May! It was a fun day where our members were able to socialize with several Davis Kiwanians, play games like water ballon fights and eat good food.

The purpose of the event is to promote positive relations and introduce our members to our local Kiwanis Family. It was nice to get to know our Kiwanians in a casual setting and celebrate the beginning of a new term together! KANZA CHOUDHARY // UNIVERSITY OF CA, DAVIS

Carnoween is an annual event at Pleasant Hill Elementary School that Diablo Valley College CKI volunteer at with College Park High School Key Club!

It is an event that the teachers and parents put together for the kids in order for them to enjoy Halloween.

We help with making food, running carnival like games, giving out prizes, setting up/tearing down the event and simply making sure the kids are having a fun time!

ALEA EUGENIO // DIABLO VALLEY COLLEGE

Kiwanis Takeovers- Just as there have been many Key to Colleges, there have also been many Kiwanis Takeovers, each with their own flare!

There are a wide variety of activities such as Bake Sales, and skits. But what they all have in common is getting to know the Kiwanians through fun activities such as making non-alcoholic margaritas! ROSELYN DUONG // SACRAMENTO STATE UNIVERSITY
