CAVALRY RULE REVISIONS 2025
Greetings troopers, as the hot weather is upon the entire CMSA, I'm pleased to inform you of some changes to the Cavalry Rules in the 2025 revised edition of the CMSA Rule Book under Para 33 Cavalry.
These are the result of submissions from members of our troop through CMSA to the National Advisory Board using the process on the CMSA Website and reflect the organizations and Advisory Boards desire to continue to grow our speciality class, have more members qualify for Worlds also enhance trooper’s safety and comfort (especially in hot weather) as well as showcase the great diversity of colorful military uniforms of our gallant predecessors.
STATE AND REGIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS
PARA 29 (State Championships)
H. All State Championships shall offer Rifle, Shotgun, Cavalry, and Wrangler as CMSA Point events. These events shall be triple points.
Para 30 (Regional Championships)
J. All Regional Championships shall offer Rifle, Shotgun, Cavalry, and Wrangler as CMSA Point events. These events shall be quadruple points.
Note: Para 29 and 30 are to allow CMSA members every opportunity to acquire the required points to qualify for the Rifle, Shotgun, and Cavalry classes at their respective World competitions.
INTRODUCTION OF THE ‘BIB' SHIRT

Sub v.
Troopers may wear a Cavalry Bib Shirt (aka Plastron of Battle Shirt) commonly used during the Civil War. This shirt must be a solid color of the cavalry unit depicted and must be accompanied by appropriate suspenders, a neck scarf, and period pants. All other Cavalry uniform requirements of period correct uniform pants, headdress, holsters et,c must also be worn. A Cavalry jacket is not required with the proper bib shirt configuration.

Cavalry uniforms are approved for wear during rifle, shotgun, and main match competition.
Commander’s Note
This will allow a much easier transition for shooters from Cavalry Class to rifle, shotgun, or main match when they are entered in other classes back to back, especially at majors. You can shoot other classes in full Cavalry Uniform or simply wear a period-correct shirt under your Uniform Jacket, stow the jacket, and keep blasting!
ADDING FULL-LENGTH FRINGE PANTS TO SCOUT UNIFORM

Scouts or officer fringe leather jackets may be worn as long as military correct pants or matching FULL-LENGTH fringe pants or full-length chaps are worn; additionally, proper holsters, hat/helmet, boots, etc., are required.
NOTE: I’ve had some questions on wearing blue jeans with a Cavalry Uniform. Simply put, the United States Cavalry never issued blue jeans or denim at all, and certainly not five-pocket blue jeans. Be advised, Blue Jeans are NOT approved uniform attire for CMSA Cavalry.
Para 33 M. Penalties:
ii. Failure to wear the minimum Cavalry Uniform, headdress, saddle, tack, and pad requirements shall result in a non-qualified run.
As Memorial Day has just passed Id like to thank everyone who shoots Cavalry, thereby helping pay tribute to our military forefathers.
