The Little Family has been an integral part of the Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association (CMSA) for over 25 years, proudly contributing to the success and growth of our Wrangler program. Their commitment to the sport and community has left a lasting impact on all of us. Tragically, in December 2024, we experienced the unexpected loss of Charlie Little, a beloved member of our community. In response to this heartbreaking event, CMSA came together with the compassionate members of the Tennessee CMSA club, organized a benefit shootout and silent auction. This event was meant to gather support for Bradi Little, Charlie's devoted wife, and their five young children: Layne Colter, Payton Charles, Koltt Wade, Hunter Rose, and Hayzen Koy. As they face this unimaginable challenge, our community stands united, ready to help the Little Family through this difficult time

That my life it was worthwhile, Knowing as I passed along the way I made somebody smile.
When your walking down the road
And you've got me on your mind, I'm walking in your footsteps Only half a step behind.
So please don't be unhappy
Just because i'm out of sight, Remember that I'm with you Each morning, noon and night.

Incentive
April showers bring more than May flowers to Shelbyville again this year. The CMSA of Tennessee weekend and The CMSA Extravaganza packed a ton of points, added money and some great prizes into 7 days of shooting.
CMSA of TN and Lost Creek Quarter Horses teamed up for another great event, the LC Shootout & Breeders’ Incentive. Located in Lebanon, Tennessee, Lost Creek focuses on producing some of the most user-friendly ranch horses in the Southeast. The saying is “They’re born broke,” and if you are lucky enough to work with one, you will find out pretty quickly that it’s true.
The Lost Creek Quarter Horses added $5,000 to the main match on Monday, along with 5X the points. The money was split evenly between the 3 divisions, and here are the big winners

Don’t forget the Wranglers! Thanks to Courtney Performance Horses, home of Dualin For Cocktails, the Wrangler class had $500 added, $250.00 per division, and some awesome Shea Michelle custom buckles. The big winner in the Limited Wrangler class was Hadley Dye riding the great horse we all know as Little Man. In the Open class, Hailey Harris riding Sienna laid down some amazing times to win the Open Division. Hot on her heels was Charlie Mae Davis, who performed like a seasoned competitor. These young ladies put on a show. Congrats girls!
Last but not least was the Lost Creek Breeders’ Incentive. This is the 2nd year for the LCBI, and it did not disappoint. This Incentive is for LC-bred horses and is designed to pay out 100% of entry fees with $2000 added per division. The cool thing about this event is that competitors can “enter up” and run for money in higher divisions. This gives competitors a chance to put their time up against higher-level shooters. The “enter up” is a regular in other equine sports, and we decided to bring it to mounted shooting.

This year we had 9 in the A Division, 8 in AA, and thanks to the “enter up” option, 11 in the AAA. Amy Cook and LC Sexy Chex 83 took home the big check in the A Division. Amy was also 2nd on the great stallion Hairpin Blue Chex. “Blue,” as he is known, is the sire of most of the horses competing this year. Derrick Hutchings and Romas Gem won the AA Division and were 2nd on the great mare LC Cash My Chex 315. “Snip” won the Non Pro CMSA Futurity in 2021 and still competes now and then. In the AAA Division, John Krantz and his gelding LC Apache Whiskey won big. “Smoochies” got his name from John’s son a few years ago, and it fits this gentle giant. This gelding gets better and better each year.
We told you about the money, but hold on! We have a big list of prizes, starting with some beautiful custom guns sponsored by Monroe Hilderbrand for the Divisional winners. Amy, Derrick, and John each took home a Ruger with custom engraving and the LC brand for their hard work. Ridge Creek provided some handmade loping hackamores and halters, which were a big hit. Tractor Supply of Shelbyville sponsored a pallet of shavings. I mean, who doesn’t want to win shavings? Rutherford County CO OP provided bags of feed and some buckets full of shampoo and fly spray for the classes. Our sponsor provided prizes for 1st through 6th place. We want to thank each of our sponsors. Without their support, this event would not be as fun or successful.

Maybe by watching what we are doing she will get some takeaway, that will help her be a better mounted shooter and horsewoman. The feeling her statement gave me was more rewarding than the class win or the placings we received. I’m going into Nationals with a new found motivation that I hope reflects well for us in the end.
One last thing I’d like to share, telling someone may it be a level 1 shooter you don’t know yet or a shooter you have watched or admired at any level that they had a “nice run” or “wow that was amazing” or whatever positive comment you feel in the moment really is beyond appreciated. It can really help lift someone who you might not realize has been struggling to get past a barrier in their journey. I try to say the positive things I feel in the moment to other competitors because I know how much that has helped me, a well timed “nice job” can change your whole day. Lately I have been the recipient of more than I can count, and to everyone thank you! Thank you for taking the time to say something. I set personal goals for myself in the sport and they honestly have nothing to do with winning per se. Placings help us measure ourselves against others, achieving my goals usually reflect well in the results. When I don’t achieve those goals, well the results also reflect that. There are so many highs and lows and they are often experienced alone. The barriers we have to break thru are so specific to each of us. But I can tell you when someone who I didn’t even know was watching sees the “results” of my hard work then tells me they noticed in such a simple way. It is empowering, and motivating to keep going and that the difficult times are worth it to get to those highs. Today a young girl who is riding and shooting well as a Ladies 1 told me in the barn after the day was over she “loves watching me run my horse”, for some reason it just hit different I was taken back and just didn’t realize that I might be helping her in some tiny way.

800 Light Horsemen
If you’re inspired by this chapter, get the book entitled “Billy” by Col Stringer. It’s the story of a young Aboriginal buffalo shooter who finds himself thrust into world shattering history, as the Australian Light horsemen ride triumphantly into Jerusalem.
The story takes place in 1916-1917 in Beersheba, Israel when British forces are bogged down in front of Turkish Muslims and German lines in Palestine. What eleven crusades couldn’t accomplish, God used the youngest and smallest nation to achieve the impossible. 800 “outback”, half Aboriginals, horseback buffalo hunters from Australia volunteer to be shipped across the Indian Ocean to the Sahara Desert and cross 300 miles of waterless wasteland to face certain death. Much like the Buffalo Bill era in our country.
When water gave out commanders ordered the men not to give water to their horses, but these were Aussies, a different breed of men, whose horses had saved their lives and in return would give their life for their horse.
When they finally reach Jerusalem and crested the hill over looking the Holy City there was a 3 mile plain between them and German artillery and machine guns with entrenched Turks on the front line.
The Aussies were thinking it’s certain death to charge those lines and it’s certain death to try and recross the desert they just came across with no water. They look across their own lines with a lost bewildered, “What do we do now?”
When their horses smell the water from Abraham’s “Well of Oath”, the wells of Bethsaida, without the consent of their master the horses started a single charge for the life-giving water. As each rider thought, “What the hay?” Who gave the charge? The horse’s unanimous enthusiasm for water gave their last run of their life.
By: Wes Walton
German commanders gave the order to fire the big guns, but the horses were coming so fast the artillery shot over them. In a panic they ordered reload, lower your sights, fire again and again the horses were coming so fast they shot over the charging Aussies. The horses were on a runaway to water. Machine guns open fire, while the “Outback men” shoot their buffalo guns.
They jump the entrenched Turks, using pistol and swords for close work.
