CMM Celebrations in East-Timor

On July 24, 2010, in Dili, the capital of East Timor, a new CMM Region East Timor was founded. The name of the new region is ‘Jesus Misericordioso East Timor’. During the solemn Eucharistic Celebration at the Hati Kudus (Sacred Heart) Church, Bishop Alberto Ricardo da Silva presided. At that celebration Brother Dominikus Samponu made his profession for life. Present were the Superior General Brother Broer Huitema and the Provincial Superior of the brothers in Indonesia, Brother Martinus Leni. Brother Silvino Belo is the Regional Superior.

East Timor has been a colony of Portugal for 450 years and after that it was for 25 years part of Indonesia. In 2002 it achieved its independence.

Presently there are about 20 brothers in CMM who hail from East Timor. The brothers have three communities in East Timor. They work in Becora at the parish school Hati Kudus, a junior high school (SMP) and a senior high school (SMA). In Gleno the brothers are working at the secondary vocational training school which the brothers founded two years ago.
