SINGLE: If a single person dies without a Will, the line of Inheritance can be complicated and can often involve relatives you have never even met!

IF you die without a Will, all your money and possessions (your Estate) will be distributed, according to strict legal rules and regulations.

These rules are called the Laws of Intestacy. In many cases, the Intestacy Laws distribute an Estate in a way the deceased would not have wanted, sometimes with disastrous results.

For, that's the day on which the next monthly meeting is being held (between 10.30am and 12.15pm) by a pioneering, local organisation at its usual venue, The Forum Theatre in the Potteries Museum & Art Gallery at Hanley, Stoke-on-Trent!

Such is their popularity, the meetings (organised by the North Staffs. Pensioners' Convention) attract an average audience of over 100 people to this venue (located on Bethesda Street in the City's Cultural Quarter).

Since it was founded in 1991, the Convention has become a democratic voice for seniors in North Staffordshire.

Now, as a result of its successful bids for funding for research-projects (funded by two major charities: the Big Lottery and Robbie Williams's 'Give It Sum') the NSPC has expanded its activities in what is an exciting time!

Indeed, it is now strengthening its influence

with the local authorities and others, and has recently completed research- and involvementprojects to ensure that older people have a meaningful (rather than a 'token') role in decision-making in North Staffordshire.

Established as a community organisation by the late Dave Goodman and his committee, the North Staffs. Pensioners' Convention enjoys broad-based support across this region, having built up a reputation as a powerful, independent champion of seniors' rights in the local community.

In addition to the meetings at The Forum Theatre (held on the first Monday of each month [unless it falls upon a Bank Holiday]), its activities include a quarterly newspaper, which is mailed to members and affiliates; representations to MPs, councillors and decision-makers; and campaigns on issues of concern to seniors, such as pensions, health and social care, transport, post offices and 'panicalarms'.

It also gathers and documents evidence of older people's experiences, and builds links with other 'Grey Power' groups throughout Britain.

Based at 3, Bagnall Street (within the Town Hall), in Hanley, the Convention enjoys the loyal backing of over 500 members and twenty-seven, affiliated organisations, as well as widespread public support locally.

PARK HALL DAY NURSERY Extended openinghours celebrate 21st birthday!!

PARK Hall Day Nursery is owned and managed by Sue Johnson, who has 27 years' experience in childcare.

"This year, our nursery is celebrating its 21st birthday, and, to coincide with this, we are expanding our openinghours," says Sue. "We have been talking to and looking at the needs of local parents/carers, and we believe that there is a need for 'out-ofhours' childcare.

"We have found that there are many parents, who need to work very early or late in the day (e.g. shift-workers or hospital staff), and there is also a need for Saturday care."

These 'out-of-hours' shiftpatterns are particularly difficult for single parents or couples who both work full-time. These parents still want to ensure that their children have a caring, secure environment while they have to

work.

Accordingly, Park Hall Day Nursery has extended its opening-hours to reflect this.

"Our new opening-hours are 6.00am to 10.00pm, Monday to Friday, and we intend to open on Saturdays soon," explains Sue. "Parents and/or guardians are warmly invited to call us to arrange a look around our nursery, experience our homely atmosphere and meet our friendly, experienced staff.

"While here, they will be able to discuss all of their child's needs and requirements.

'Britain's Best Real Ale Heritage Pubs' is a beautifully-illustrated celebration of pub interiors, from rural time-warps, Victorian and Edwardian drinking palaces to inter-war boozers, which have altered little during the last, 80 years.

"Our pubs have been changed so much during the past half-century that ones with genuine historic interiors are now incredible rarities," said the book's author, Geoff Brandwood, of CAMRA's Pub Heritage Group.

MEDIAEVAL combat and magnificent birds of prey are among the exciting, new attractions which await visitors to this traditional 'fun' day-out for ALL the family on Saturday, August 3rd!

This year, the 156th Betley Show is hosting a veritable plethora of exhibits and activities for young and old alike at its usual venue: Betley Court Farm (on the A531 [NewcastleCrewe road]).

The Domesday Morris Dancers will entertain, there will be music by James Bazley in the Beer Tent.

As ever, the focus will be on the Main Arena, where (at 12.30pm and 3pm), you can marvel at Birds of Preys Displays; however, these are not your usual falconry displays, as they concentrate upon natural behaviour of these superb avians, showing them at what they do best - flying free!

Simple mouthguard could help prevent heart-problems NEW research suggests that those with the relatively common condition of obstructive sleep apnoea (where sufferers repeatedly stop breathing briefly during their sleep) have a significantly increased risk of developing heartproblems to the level of those with diabetes.

Whilst this comes as more bad news for those who suffer from sleeping-conditions, there appears to be an easy answer to preventing obstructive sleep apnoea, as another, new study

shows.

This latter study looked at 140 patients who suffered with obstructive sleep apnoea and asked them to use something called a mandibular advancement device (MAD).

In basic terms, a MAD is a moulded mouthpiece which fits into your mouth and over your teeth; it gently holds your lower jaw in a slightly-forward position while you sleep, thus opening the airway and helping to prevent the cessation of breathing.

In the study, 65 per cent of the patients who used a MAD found that they were able to stop their sleep apnoea altogether.

Unprecedented environmental pressures have resulted in many of Britain's garden birds declining in distribution, numbers or both.

Through the concerted efforts of conservation organisations and the continued support of the public, many declining species have had their fortunes changed for the better in the UK, such as the Bullfinch and Goldfinch.

There are two major factors contributing to the decline in our country birds.

Firstly, loss of habitat: new roads, houses and commercial estates have used up precious acres of countryside previously inhabited by wild birds and wildlife.
