Clutha City Lights Festival 2021

The Clutha Trust

At the Clutha Trust our main focus and objectives are to help develop, encourage and showcase young people’s talents. In particular young people who feel disadvantaged or have not had the opportunities or chances afforded to others.

Inclusivity is at the very core of the organisation and a pathway to improved social inclusion and mental well-being be promoted at these public events. Promoting a positive example to the young and to all our communities.

This is achieved by working with other charities, community groups and educational organisations.

Clutha City Lights Festival

During the COP26 conference held in Glasgow from the 1st of November to 12th November 2021 the Clutha Trust will be holding a fringe event on Clyde Street in Glasgow’s city centre.

The event will allow local charities to showcase their work. Charities such as the Citizens Theatre, HA African Orchestra, CAST, Spirit Aid, The Clutha Kids, Co-op Brass Band, Foodbanks, Dress for Success, Scottish Homeless Project, Hazelwood School and many more.

With the support of our charity partners our social media reach would exceed 1 MILLION

Light Show

Clyde Street is historically the main entrance into Glasgow city centre and our aim is to use the history and old buildings of this area as a video mapping light show.

The light show will be the principle draw to the festival and will use the latest video mapping techniques.

Mobile Stage

In addition to the facilities at Morrison Street the Clutha Trust has a 45ft mobile stage. Our intention is to use this for touring performances including drama and music. This allows us the advantages of ‘open air’ performances adhering to any government restrictions.

We have a close relationship with New College Lanarkshire, working with their Drama and Music departments. The pandemic has obviously curtailed their activities and has restricted any showcases and exhibitions for their students. They recently approached us looking for assistance/ideas with the view to holding an Arts festival during the COPS 26 conference.

Street attractions, Static Exhibitions & Charity Showcases

The Clutha Trust mobile trailer stage will be situated under the railway bridge on Clyde Street. This will be the main focus before and after our video mapping program. Performances will include live music, short plays, comedy, African orchestra and Opera.

Given the winter conditions each performance will be given a 30/45 minute time slot.

The street festival and audience spaces will include street food vendors, pop-up recycling shops, and some good, old fashioned fairground attractions.

The festival will utilise the unused hall of the Briggait complex. This will be used for performance, interactive plays and live music. We will work with our charity partners to provide a wide selection of interesting pop-up shops and exhibition spaces for local artists to showcase their work.

50,000

We envisage midweek audiences of 20,000 people per day rising to people per day at the weekends.
