Club Forster and Sporties Tuncurry expect all Members and Guests to dress in an appropriate manner at all times when attending any Club premises. UNACCEPTABLE: • Swimwear • Men’s headwear • Untidiness, faded or frayed clothing • Baseball caps • Singlets • Bare feet • Bike shorts • Training apparel • Bare midrifs • Offensive slogans/logos N.B. SPECIAL EXCEPTION (Before 8pm): The Board of Directors have ruled that trades’ persons (commonly referred to as ‘Tradies’) will be allowed access to the club up until 8pm, 7 days a week. Normal working attire will be permitted. Management reserves the right to refuse entry to any ‘Tradie’ considered offensive. THE FOLLOWING APPLIES AFTER 8pm: • Scuffs must have heel straps • Covered shoes must be worn on iidance floor • Rubber thongs not permitted

INTERNAL CLUBS From the President Welcome to the Winter edition of the 'What’s On' magazine. With the colder weather arriving it is a great time to get together with family and friends to enjoy some of the sensational meals and entertainment that are on offer at either of our two great Clubs. I encourage you to casually peruse the contents of this magazine for further details. Continued difficult and challenging economic times are being experienced by our Clubs and the wider Great Lakes business community. In light of these times and the fact that we have recently undertaken and completed major Clubhouse development works at Club Forster, the Club’s financial performance for the 10 month period ending 30th April 2014 was a modest Net Profit of $31,957. This result is down $113,175 on last year’s Net Profit of $145,132. Consideration also needs to be made for a nonrecurrent cost of $192,003 representing increased worker's compensation premiums paid to date compared to last year. The Club’s financial position is considered sound returning positive cash flows and holding accumulated cash reserves of $657,426 as at 30th April 2014. Particularly pleasing is the continued strong trading at the Sporties Tuncurry which is up in all core areas of bar, catering and gaming. Forster’s '242ate Café, Bar and Grill' is doing very well by meeting all key financial targets with terrific feedback to date on the range and quality of meals. I encourage you all to come in and experience '242ate' or 'Kenny’s Thai Kitchen'. It is with great sadness that Dallas Shannon passed away on 26th April 2014. Dal’s contribution to the Sporties Tuncurry (formally Forster Tuncurry League & Sports Club) was significant for which Dal was recognized in 1982 as a Life Member. On behalf of the Board, Management and Staff I extend our sincere sympathies to Dal’s family. Members, don’t forget that you do have to redeem all your Dolphin Reward Loyalty bonus points before the 30th June, 2014. You may like to redeem your points on a range of things like meat packs, chocolate nuts, enjoy a tasty meal in either of the club’s brassieres or even a nice bottle of white or red wine by contacting our friendly reception staff. Finally, I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the staff of Club Forster, who under the extreme circumstances suffered on Anzac Day with the wild weather and blackout, coped with the situation professionally and without fuss to move members and visitors upstairs, enabling the continuation of the day's proceedings. INTERCLUBS HELP 'THE HOUSE' The Ronald McDonald Forster Family Retreat is the fourth house of it's kind to be built in Australia. It's aim is to provide free accommodation for families with seriously ill children and recently bereaved families to enjoy a much needed holiday together. Recently, Club Director, Darcy Cheetham handed over the proceeds of the interclub raffle conducted at the annual Club Forster and Sporties Tuncurry Sports Awards evening to Cindy Loadsman, Secretary of the Forster Family Retreat. This donation will help in the upkeep of the cabins.
IT'S ALWAYS MUDCRAB SEASON! Club Forster & Sporties Tuncurry are proud sponsors of the Forster Tuncurry Mudcrabs. Club members swim every Sunday at 9am at the Forster Main Beach Ocean Baths. Then everyone moves to the Forster Surfclub for a warm soup and BBQ breakfast on the verandah overlooking the magnificent Forster Beach. Club Forster Vice President Col Cross recently caught up with Bob Lee (President), Bob Harkins (Secretary), and members Jason Berg & Dean Simpson, wishing them luck in the upcoming Northern Districts Winter Swimming Chamionships on the 6th July 2014.
KEEPING THE 'KRATER' ALIVE The annual 'King of the Krater' is a very popular local Skate/Scooter/BMX Competition run by young people for young people at Tuncurry Skate Park as part of the state-wide Youth Week celebrations. As an additional benefit to the community, 'King of the Krater' have committed all proceeds towards the very worthy cause of the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service. As major sponsors, Club Forster supports the event by way of a donation toward making the day a memorable and successful one. Peter Byrne’s capacity to recreate Neil Diamond to a standard which impressed Diamond’s pianist on his last Australian tour says it all. Tom Hensley gave Peter a resounding nod of approval after seeing his Diamond tribute. Irishman Byrne’s singing voice is eerie in its likeness to the megastar and providing the impetus for Byrne’s performance is a relentless pursuit to raise his Diamond act to a level that the man himself would endorse. Peter’s career highlights are too many to mention, but the ones that stick in his mind was meeting his idol, Neil Diamond in 1996. August 2012 he celebrated the 40th anniversary of one of the greatest live albums of the 70’s Hot August Night, His idea was to re-enact every song from the album as Diamond recorded (with 30 piece symphony orchestra), and he did just that; and over 10,000 people were taken on a trip down memory lane. Over the years Peter has been recognized by his peers in 2001,2002,2003 and 2004 when Peter won the prestigious ‘MO’ Award for Best Variety Production show and ACE Award for Best Tribute Show in 2001, 2002 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007 and 2008. But with Peter’s ‘Forever Diamond’ show also solidly booked, there rarely seems to be an empty seat and the audiences keep coming back for more.
