Thanks to all the participants and volunteers, our Pirate Theme Casino Night fundraiser was a huge success thanks to our Cloud 9 Ranch members and guests. Over $1,000 was raised in donations in just a couple of hours. In addition, drinks and ice cream sales brought in funds for our Employee Appreciation program for 2013. Sales of donated homemade chili and desserts, a mystery drawing and other donations paid for the band and brought in additional funds for the Fire Department Building Fund. Special thanks to Sheila Williams, Club Secretary, who came up with the theme, donated the decorations, her time, talents & effort in making the pirate atmosphere one to be remembered. For the ladies in the Galley, all of our awesome dealers, the cashier desk, the auction guys, the Southern Edge Band and our announcer, Bubba Sweetin. And, of course, let’s not forget each and every member and guest who played the games, cheered on their favorite horse and kept the night full of fun for everyone. Those sounds of people having fun made the night so much more of a success. Having the event at a time other than a large holiday weekend was a risk, but it turned out to be a risk well-taken. We appreciate our “regular attendees” whether you helped or you played, for without you the night would never happen. I am always amazed at the generosity of our Cruiser members, but a special thank you to those not associated with the Cruisers who offer to help during an event when there is an immediate need. A report will be given soon on where the funds received for the Casino Night will be going to Cloud 9 Ranch. As always, 100% of the fundraiser is spent on Cloud 9 Ranch improvements. The Cloud 9 Cruiser recently helped the Schoolhouse Committee and Dale Cox in refurbishing the outside of the building with new paint, washing and water treating the wooden deck and ramp. The Cloud 9 Cruisers are also planning a “deep cleaning day” for the interior of the Schoolhouse in the next couple of weeks. Working together makes it work, EVERY TIME!!! When you see one ot the Cloud 9 Cruiser red flags, ask about how you can be a part, AND COME AND JOIN US! Kadye Ward, Event Coordinator

Set Sail On a New Kind of C9r Cruise! Around The Ranch….. As many of you know, the storm last Friday completely knocked out all internet service to C9R. A lightening strike destroyed the main radio by highway 160, all 4 modems, power injectors, junction blocks, some phone lines and some of the telephones. The modem and phone lines have been repaired. The new radio equipment will be delivered on Thursday evening. We have to coordinate from CenturyLink, our router programmer, and our own maintenance crew to change everything out. If everything goes well, service to the campgrounds should be restored sometime late this weekend. For the time being, you can still use the Patio Room of the Club House for internet service. Who is Holly Spencer? This week’s employee article is different from the rest. Holly Spencer, one of the ladies in our Ranch’s Front Office, has experienced Cloud 9 Ranch since infancy. She has watched the changes, both as a child, an adult and an employee. She’s seen the changes from different aspects. Holly’s happy personality is sometimes lost in the stress of daily working in the office. Holly Towell (now Spencer) was born in Brighton, IL and grew up there. However, her summers at Cloud 9 Ranch was the highlight every year spending time her family, cousins and friends. In fact, her first visit to Cloud 9 was in 1989, when Holly was only three weeks old. Her parents had just purchased their membership and came to the Ranch staying in a rental. The story goes that Holly slept in a little red wagon and her mother relates that the first night at the Ranch is the first night Holly slept the entire night. The Towell’s always loved the Ozarks and wanted to buy land and build a home. So, in 2007, only a few months after Holly graduated from Southwestern High School, they bought land close to the Ranch. Not only that, but they moved onto the Ranch while their house was being built. Holly was hired at the Gatehouse that August. She enrolled in college at ASU in Mountain Home and completed two years. Living in a camper, working and going to school were not what she had always dreamed of. Holly admits this was one of the worst times of her life. To add to her disappointment, her then boyfriend Tommy was having issues on the Ranch and received a suspension for being in the Clubhouse after it was supposed to be closed. Experiences of Cloud 9 Ranch for Holly were not always so dramatic. Well, dramatic maybe, but with a child-like twist. Spending every summer on the Ranch was always filled with family fun when cousins and friends would all arrive at the same time. Back then there were many things for the children and younger teenagers to do to occupy their time like arcade games, jukebox, pool tables were at the Big Top where they gathered every day. She remembers always being involved in putting on skits and performances for the parents and anyone who would stop in and watch. One particular memory that comes up at family gatherings when Holly was around 10 years old, was a fake wedding that was held between one of her cousin Sam and a boy she met , who fell in love one summer. The others put together the “wedding” for them on the steps of the Wilder Stage Stop. Watching Holly tell this story, it was easy to see this was a fond memory that will be with her forever. Another event Holly related was she met her husband Tommy when she was very young, he offered she and her cousin a ride while they were walking down the main road. There are lots of memories of Cloud 9 for Holly that have shaped her life far more than many of us will ever realize in our lifetime. Holly’s memories of Cloud 9 have also shaped her future thoughts. She is interested in bringing back the family atmosphere to Cloud 9 Ranch where families and teens have a place to congregate and interact with activities, building lasting friendships from year to year. She doesn’t see this on the Ranch today and that saddens her. Holly is willing to do anything to help bring back activities for the teens because it holds so many good memories for her. Holly Towell and Tommy Spencer were married in June 2010. They have a son Noah, who is now 2. Now, when Holly can enjoy her membership on Cloud 9, it’s a lot different than her childhood days. She and Tommy spend their Ranch time with Noah throwing rocks in the stream and discovering things like animals and bugs. Noah loves to ride the ATV, so that’s always a family event when they find the time. Holly’s employment at C9R has changed over the years; spending about a year at the gatehouse, then housekeeping and now as an office employee for the last three years. When Holly was asked how the membership could help her in her job, she laughed a really big laugh. Her reply through the laughter is, “The biggest obstacle in my job, which is everything that happens in the office during the day, is people who send in checks with the wrong information, no membership number, two different amounts from where the numbers are and what is written out and no documentation as to what the checks are for. Another laugh, and Holly said, “People really have no idea how many members there are with the last name of SMITH.” Holly says her life is not very interesting, even considers herself boring. At home Holly and Tommy live on a tight budget, don’t even have a television. She hates housework and never seems to get anything accomplished, although she loved her housekeeping job here at the Ranch; just didn’t like being out in the weather, hot or cold, all the time.

Ranch Rider News The Columbus Day Poker / Marble Run was held on Saturday, October 6th, and was very successful. Everyone had a great time! There were 113 ATVs and Side x Sides, with 179 people on board leaving the T Top at 1:00. We had a well planned and flagged fifteen mile route. All returned to the T-Top by 4:00 with no reported accidents and only a couple of breakdowns of the machines. After the run, many prizes were drawn for from the route rider’s tickets while waiting for the results of the marble shakes. Here are the lucky winners: First place for $273.00: The Edgellers Second place for $205.00: Larry Kelly Third place for $102.00: Lisa Webber Fourth place for $68.00: Robert Harper Fifth place for $35.00: Larry Ruder The person with the lowest points was Mike Burns who received $25.00 for a score of 23. Thank you, all who rode, played or volunteered to help with this event. The Big 50/ 50 did not sell the complete $1200, but came real close with $1064 worth of tickets sold. The winner was Burt Cannon receiving $532. Congratulation Burt & thank you all who bought the tickets. After the Poker Run / Marble the Ranch Riders met at Bob and Betty Harper’s campsite with a dinner served of Chili, pulled chicken (that was pulled all the way from Illinois) and some great desserts. Thanks Betty and Bob for hosting! The October Ranch Riders Meeting was held following the dinner with a great turnout of Ranch Rider’s getting to meet each other in person. All the RRC officers were present at the ranch. The RRC still have their sweat shirts, hoodies, zip hoodies and tee shirts for sale. They can be purchased anytime. Please see Barb Gardner or Debbie Davis for your RRC items. There is still time to order your personalized ATV license plate for the Holiday Season.

Contact us at ranchriders.org Remember to RIDE RESPONSIBLY This is OUR ranch, let’s take care of it!! Who is…...continued fRom Page 7 Speaking about a tight budget, one thing that others may not realize is that Holly Spencer is the sole breadwinner for her family. Tommy was severely injured on the job several years ago and is totally disabled. He is waiting on a court ruling now for disability, but until that happens, Holly supports the family and Tommy is Mr. Mom taking care of Noah at home. Holly has always been thankful for her jobs at Cloud 9 Ranch, but once Tommy’s case is settled her hopes and dreams are to continue her college education in the medical field. Holly put it best when she got a little serious, and without laughing said, “I want to one day be able to come back to the Ranch as a member and enjoy it, let Noah enjoy it like I did as a child. We’ve got to do something for the next generation of Cloud 9 Ranch owners.” Yes, we do, Holly Spencer, YES, WE DO!!
