Clifton College v Blundell’s School

Saturday 15th November 2025

Welcome to the players , parents and coaches of today’s opposition, Blundell’s. Always a strong and respected opponent, and one that promises a hard-fought, high-quality contest.
Clifton come into this game hitting their stride after a series of impressive recent performances. The side has shown growing cohesion, confidence, and sharpness across the park, combining physicality up front with pace and creativity in the backline. Today offers another valuable opportunity to test themselves against a well-drilled Blundell’s outfit and continue their development as the season builds towards its key fixtures.
For the players, matches like this are about more than the scoreline; they’re a chance to measure progress, embrace competition, and uphold the proud rugby traditions shared by both schools. Spectators can look forward to a full-hearted display from two sides intent on playing ambitious, competitive rugby.
We wish both teams the best of luck and look forward to an excellent afternoon of schoolboy rugby.

A big welcome to Blundell’s to The Close today. It’s been a number of years since we have played them in a full fixture at home and it is very exciting to welcome them here today. It is nice to have a West Country derby and looking at the results of Blundell’s this season we should be in for a great game.
Well done to the boys on an impressive win against a very good Wellington side. We hope for a similar level of performance today. Lastly, as the programme may show it has been lovely to watch the journey of some of the past pupils who have graced The Close. All of their journeys have been different as we always know they are in sport but equally they have found the one that has been right for them and the destinations have been ultimately similar.
We hope that all pupils today enjoy the fixture and most importantly those that are nearing the end of their time at school take a love of sport forward in their lives.
Matt Salter

I’d like to thank Blundell’s for making the journey and welcome them to the Close. I felt like the boys did really well to battle back from behind and stayed in the fight until the last minute against Wellington. Hopefully we can bring the momentum and quality of play from the second half into the game today. Enjoy the game.

Last month saw a standout weekend for Old Cliftonians in the Premiership and URC leagues.
Cardiff Rugby celebrated a memorable performance from Tom Bowen, who became the youngest player in the professional era to score a hat-trick for the club. Fellow OC and Wales international, Ioan Lloyd also featured appearing off the bench.
At Exeter Chiefs, Immanuel Feyi-Waboso continued his exceptional run of form with a hat-trick of his own, underlying why he has become one of the most exciting talents in the English game.
Harry Taylor represented Gloucester Rugby, while Aidan Boschoff and Sam Worlsey both lined up for Bristol, exemplifying the power of our performance rugby programme.
Reflecting on the weekend’s success, Matt Salter, Director of Rugby said “It’s fantastic to see so many OCs performing at the highest level and also many more recent leavers beginning their senior rugby journey in the national leagues. These boys are contributing so significantly to their teams and it clearly shows the determination, skill and character, qualities that were evident during their time at Clifton. Their achievements are a source of pride for everyone connected with the College, and are a real inspiration for our current pupils.”
Many congratulations to all!

Old Cliftonians continue to shine as last year’s pupils, captain Ollie Harris and centre Victor Worsnip scored all of Bristol Bears’ tries in their match against Argentina last weekend.

We would also like to wish OC Immanuel Feyi-Waboso GOOD LUCK as he starts for England against New Zealand today!
