MLW Air addresses the group travel market with luxurious accommodations and worldwide availability. The Dallas-based company is the only worldwide air charter company with an “All First Class” Boeing 767 aircraft that is both U.S.-registered and also operating under the strictest FAA Part 121 commercial airline regulations. The custom-outfitted Boeing 767 aircraft moves groups of travelers anywhere in the world in less time, all while offering total flexibility in itinerary and with an overall lavish experience. Alex Innes: Creativity Behind Rolls-Royce’s Customization

a vehicle with an exterior or interior matching a customer’s lipstick or cufflinks, designing matching walking sticks, or, with the newer Wraith, developing constellation patterns appropriate for the sky’s alignment at a particular point of the year. Yet, there are limitations; for instance, when it comes to interior fabric, Rolls-Royce won’t display a monogram from another brand. “In terms of outcomes, this again varies hugely,” Innes says as he went into detail about Bespoke’s customization possibilities. “It can be anything from the smallest piece of discreet personalization, the inclusion of a family crest or subtle initials placed carefully within the interior, to the boldest statements in color across the interior and exterior along with actual modifications to the interior configuration of the motor car.” Technology makes it possible for a customer to see what the RollsRoyce looks like before it goes to production, which itself takes about two months. Frequently, those requesting such Bespoke features go to the company’s location, but Innes, in catering to each individual’s needs, has traveled to the customer on multiple occasions – to a home, place of work, and even a yacht anywhere on the globe. “While this is a service predominantly focused on our customers, it provides us with valuable insights and inspirations which always make their way back into the studio, influencing our daily work,” Innes says. As much as Innes has been part of the creative push behind Bespoke, his background extends to an interest in both cars and art – something a teacher once told him he could combine. These days, Innes continues to take inspiration from architecture with his designs, as well as from the team he works with. He says, “Beyond my interest in architecture and some of the automotive design greats, the team I work with [inspires me]. I would credit them as the single biggest source of inspiration in terms of work ethic, quality of creativity and passion.” ■

W

hat it’s like being a key part of the world’s most innovative, luxurious auto brand. For an aspiring designer, being a key part of a major auto maker’s customization team seems like a dream come true. For Alex Innes, such a scenario became a reality just a few years ago. After studying automotive design, through the field of industrial design, at Coventry University, Innes graduated in 2008. That same year, Goodwood 360 had been looking at university students for someone to fill such a role. Innes went through the application process, including interviews and having his portfolio examined, and eventually became one of the Bespoke’s designers. Innes previously compared Rolls-Royce’s customization to the tailoring offered by Savile Row establishments in London. That being said, Innes, in an interview with Clientele Luxury, explains that while he feels privileged to have such a position, with it comes a great deal of responsibility. “RRMC is a brand with enormous gravitas and relevance, however small, to most people - customers and enthusiasts alike,” he says. “Exceeding the expectations of this highly discerning demographic is the focus of our role in the design team. RRMC is a very old and precious thing and like all precious things, it needs to be handled with a great deal of care and attention. Additionally, it has to have a relevance to the modern world we live in and more importantly shape the future of the super luxury market. We strive for our Motor Cars to be contemporary yet timeless; proportions are measured, lines are considered, and surfaces exude a level of sobriety.” Along with Rolls-Royce’s solid physical design, Bespoke sets the brand apart. The possibilities remain endless – to a point. “The scope is very difficult to quantify,” Innes explains. “It varies from customer to customer and region to region. Furthermore, the variety really is a result of the entire process. We are not sitting our customers in front of a list of pre-defined options; we are inviting them into a creative conversation. I liken my role to that of consultant, drawing a parallel with the relationship between a client and, say, an architect commissioned to build them the house of their dreams. During the early dialog with the customer, the key aspect is the convergence of creative thinking. The balance of ideas varies, some customers come with a clear vision and they are challenging our technical expertise to deliver, others arrive with a vague notion and they are looking for us to expose them to the possibilities and fuel the creative aspect of the discussion. The important element here is that the dialog is one on one with a designer, with the sole objective of capturing their aspirations wholeheartedly.” Nevertheless, Rolls-Royce must maintain a brand aesthetic. A significant part of Innes’ responsibilities involve not only being creative and catering specifically to each customer’s needs but further upholding the Rolls-Royce image. Innes, in previous interviews, has spoken about the extent he and the Bespoke team have gone: In some cases, this has involved creating

uring a two-year collaboration, Stephanie Odegard introduced Paul Mathieu to craftsmen in India who are masters in their respective crafts and renowned for their century-old techniques. The result of these repeated travels is a new line of furnishings and objects, available exclusively through the Stephanie Odegard Collection. Combining the traditional crafts of stone carving, metal work, and casting in India with a classically modern approach, Paul and Stephanie worked with the master carvers in India to create functional works of art hand-made out of marble, wood, silver, brass, and a variety of other native materials. For instance, each one of the Jour table is cut from a solid block of marble, then hand carved to produce the delicate filigree work. The Malibu Life with Madison Hildebrand

B

est known for his role on the hit Bravo show “Million Dollar Listing, Los Angeles” Madison Hildebrand has taken the real estate industry by storm over the past seven years and shows no signs of stopping anytime soon. We recently had some time to speak with Madison about his newly designed home, his ever-popular TV show, and what’s coming next for this determined and successful entrepreneur. Having recently moved back into his Malibu home after leasing it to a tenant for several years, Madison spent roughly the past year working diligently to make it his dream home. The renovation began last October with the doors, windows, kitchen, and baths being knocked out to make room for his new design. Once the interior remodel was finished, Madison went to work once again, putting his personal stamp on the place. From picking out window treatments to deciding on furniture and decor, Madison was involved every step of the way. While the original interior design concept was bold and contemporary, much of the furniture and décor that ended up being utilized fell into his lap after one of his family’s investment properties sold, leaving him a house full of designer furniture. At that point, Madison, “stopped buying and had to start integrating.” The end result was an blended decor concept that featured both a beachy, yet masculine vibe. “I would call it bold beach theme,” he says of his humble abode. While the result was different than originally planned, the concept still manages to retain much of the bold features he had set out to create. “It’s definitely Madison. It kind of feels like the clothes I wear and walk around in. It represents me for sure.” he says. The opportunity to collaborate with some of his favorite contractor and interior design clients on his own home remodel was one of his favorite parts. “It was a long process, but a fun one” Madison reflects on the process. Each year, Madison takes time to reflect back on his success, “it’s been a wild ride since graduating from Pepperdine in 03’.” After spending a couple of years immediately following graduation to travel and simply enjoy life, he committed himself to the real estate industry roughly seven years ago. It was hard work, consisting of early mornings and late nights, that earned Madison his relatively quick success. “I had no problem being there for a 12 hour day...I put in my blood, sweat, and tears” says Madison. Often the first person at the office and the last to leave, he would spend hours sitting on the floor of his mentor’s office simply trying to absorb the tips and advice said within those four walls. “I don’t feel like I’m chasing a dream. I feel like I’m creating my reality.” says Madison. It was this sort of determination that led to his success. With this type of persistence, it’s no wonder Madison was

presented with the opportunity to be a part of Million Dollar Listing. More than six years later, Madison says of the show, “It’s definitely been a huge part of my life.” Last season was incredibly well-received and earned the show’s highest ratings of any season to date. “I feel like I’ve got the opportunity to grow faster than maybe someone else that isn’t in the spotlight taking criticism every year after every episode.” Madison says. When asked what inspires him within the realm of real estate, “Honestly I love the spontaneity and the unpredictability of the business.” Having entered the business at arguably the highest point of real estate, he (along with the rest of the nation) had to ride out the low points that coincided with the economic recession. He survived the lows and is once again enjoying the current economic growth from his view at the top. Madison finds himself inspired by the unique people within his community and the process of getting acquainted with them. “I never know who’s going to call, I never know whose home I’m going to walk into. I live in an amazing city.” Madison says. He makes it a point never to take his career for granted. Last year brought on much change and growth for Madison after he found himself unable to keep up with the growing demands of an ever-expanding business. This led Madison to bring on a real estate partner and team. The process of building his team was strategically planned and executed. A website redesign, photo shoot, and considerable amount of money were invested into this new endeavor. The product was a team of 10 well-qualified individuals who had the desire to put just as much time and effort into the business as he does. In many ways, choosing his future team members was an easy decision. The majority of Madison’s new co-workers have been friends of his for more than a decade. “It’s like a family,” Madison says of his successful Malibu Life team (which is co-branded with Coldwell Banker). The team brought in $10 million in earnings in January alone, putting them on track for $100 million for the year. Madison refers to the team’s collaborative efforts as “a very well-greased engine that is really working well.” Madison’s team could not have been finalized and put into action at a better time, as 2014 will have him traveling more than ever. Kicking off (and producing!) a series of 10 seminars in 10 cities, the first will take place on February 24th in Houston, Texas. Having always had a passion for public speaking and interacting with others, Madison looks forward to utilizing these seminars as a way to lead others and be a blueprint for someone’s career. The idea of being able to share some of the tools necessary to be successful in the business with someone just starting out excites and drives Madison. Also on the docket for this year is Madison’s new role as Brand Ambassador for digital transaction giant DocuSign. to align himself with a company that continues to simplify his daily responsibilities. “I love DocuSign because it makes my life, and my clients’ lives, so much easier” says Madison of his collaboration with the innovative company. With Madison’s growing exposure, he has seen a notable increase in international buyers. Showing homes to people from all cultural backgrounds is something Madison is enjoying being much more involved in as of late and he is relishing this new buyer’s market. He also enjoys traveling abroad. Recently, Madison and some of his clients spent time in Careyes, Mexico for a health retreat organized around a villa that he is selling in the area. The accommodations consisted of seven villas with an on-site trainer. While the focus was on healthful self-restoration, the trip was a mix of business networking and enjoying a great vacation. Upon his return, Madison found himself inspired to seek out opportunities to represent a greater amount of properties internationally, as traveling and experiencing different cultures has long been a passion of his.

As for Madison’s secrets to success, he remains pretty humble. While admitting he’s told in the past that he was too young and without any real experience, he “envisioned exactly where i wanted to be with my success.” He decided years ago that he would not let anyone stop him and encourages others to, “stay true to what your intuition is telling you to follow.” Behind-the-scenes, Madison enjoys spending time outdoors with his new rescue Doberman, Maya. Exercising and taking time for himself for simple activities has been his method to finding balance in his busy life. It has been finding this balance that has been key to his continued success. His family and friends, along with taking time for himself, have left him empowered and more relaxed than before. “I’ve been learning balance and I feel like I’ve achieved that level of calmness even with all the action that’s happening.” Whether jetsetting to show homes in exotic locales or entertaining America on the small screen, Madison Hildebrand surely has us watching his every move. ■
