elcome to the 16th issue of VeryVery, or “VV” to our friends. The summer is well and truly over, we’re (still) in a recession and not one of us is any better off today than we were 12 months ago. But that’s no reason to stop spending; far from it in fact, all that’s required is a slightly savvier approach to splashing the cash… And that’s what our autumn issue is all about. Put simply, this is no time for economising, the risk of being left with a bitter taste in one’s mouth after paying dearly for a sub-standard ‘luxury’ experience is just too great. Instead, stick with the brands you trust, do your research and be prepared to spend more less frequently to ensure that your next holiday, watch or car purchase is an investment that brings you lasting, meaningful enjoyment. In this vein, we’ve been concentrating our attentions on the very pinnacle of the luxury industry of late, and where better to start than in the Principality of Monaco? Check out VV’s guide to the best the mini-state has to offer in this issue’s Travel section. Just along the coast near St. Tropez meanwhile, La Reserve Hospitality Collection have opened a year-round spa resort in Ramatuelle that left us scrambling for suitable superlatives; we’re not fans of the “6-star” descriptor, but somehow “5-star” just doesn’t do a resort like this justice. We’ve also prepared a feature on the latest and greatest ski chalets to tempt you back into the Alps this coming season; our pick of the punch is the hugely impressive Bentleys House in Zurs, Austria. Again, if one European chalet was worthy of “6-star” status, this is surely it. To remind us that luxury and culture remain the happiest of bedfellows, even in these difficult economic times, we’ve got news of a Sergei Diaghilev exhibition at the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, artist Luc Tuymans at the Red October Chocolate Factory and a new hardback book from French publishing house Assouline entitled ‘Russian Style’. That should keep you busy for a few months! See you all in the winter, for our 4th birthday issue no less…

стречайте – перед вами 16-й номер VeryVery, для друзей - просто VV. Лето, в отличие от рецессии, закончилось, и никто из нас не может похвастаться, что жизнь по сравнению с прошлым годом стала лучше. Но это ни в коем случае не значит, что надо перестать тратить деньги. Отнюдь! Просто теперь нужно делать это с умом – в чем вам и поможет наш осенний номер. Если в двух словах – сейчас не время экономить: слишком велик риск испортить себе настроение, заплатив втридорога за некачественную роскошь. Выход прост: хранить верность знакомым брендам, не рисковать без предварительной подготовки и тратить реже, но больше, чтобы поездка, часы или машина наверняка принесли удовольствие, достойное вложенных денег. Мы сосредоточились сливках индустрии роскоши, а для того, чтобы их снимать, нет места лучше, чем княжество Монако. Лучшие его заведения подробно описаны в разделе «Путешествия». На том же побережье, в Раматюэле под Сен-Тропе, открылся круглогодичный спа-курорт из коллекции La Reserve Hospitality. Отправившись туда на разведку, у нас пропал дар речи, ибо эпитетов, передающих восторг в нужной степени, подобрать не удалось. Называть отели «шестизвездочными» нам кажется не очень правильным, но написать просто «пятизвездочный» будет несправедливо. Кроме того, мы подготовили обзор новейших лыжных шале, чтобы все-таки заманить вас зимой в Альпы; наш выбор – поистине впечатляющий Bentleys House в австрийском Цюрсе. И если какое-нибудь шале на континенте достойно шести звезд, то это, безусловно, оно. А поскольку роскошь и культура были и остаются лучшими друзьями, несмотря ни на какие кризисы, мы расскажем про выставку в Третьяковской галерее, посвященную Сергею Дягелеву, проект Люка Тюйманса на шоколадной фабрике «Красный октябрь» и новом альбоме издательства Assouline под названием «Русский стиль». На ближайшие месяцы этого должно хватить! А зимой мы снова встретимся – в нашем четвертом юбилейном номере.
