Middle School: Grades 6-8

Educating Servant Leaders.

Lutheran West is

21st century 6th–12th grade education in a Christ-centered community.

Grace. It’s what we teach.

Lutheran West.

If you’re like most families I meet, you can hardly believe that your child is ready to enter middle school. It feels exciting and scary at the same time, and while you know that in many ways, they’re ready— you’re not sure you are!

Lutheran West is more than just a middle school. It’s a place where you’ll grow, explore, and develop. It’s an encouraging community rooted in Christian values—a community in which you will be welcomed, mentored, and cared for.

I know this from experience. Having grown up in Northeast Ohio’s Lutheran school community, Cleveland was always home. But God’s plan for college and career took me elsewhere for nearly 20 years, until I was once again called to my hometown. Lutheran West welcomed me and my family with open arms and open hearts, and I know that the same will be true when you join our school community.

The middle school years can be challenging, amazing, and full of growth for your child and your family. I am thrilled about the recent addition of grades 6 through 8 to our school community. It’s a chance for Lutheran West to be the supportive community that your family needs during these important years in your child’s life.

I can’t wait to welcome not only your student, but your entire family, to Lutheran West.

Joel S. Bahr Head of School, Principal

The middle school years

. . . can be full of unique challenges. In the right environment, those challenges become opportunities for growth and success.

Lutheran West embraces the unique developmental needs of students in grades 6 through 8. As they navigate the formative years between elementary school and high school, Lutheran West is an ideal environment to support their total growth: academically, personally, athletically, creatively, and spiritually.

Lutheran West faculty and staff challenge students to discover their God-given talents, interests, and passions all within a supportive Christian community.

Go West

A carefully crafted blend of challenging academics and robust extra-curricular opportunities.

In 6th and 7th grades, Lutheran West students will solidify the academic concepts required to successfully advance to high school level coursework. They will engage in survey-style courses designed to offer an exploration of several concentration areas within an academic subject.

In 8th grade, students have the opportunity to take several courses which will earn them high school credit. This path will open their high school schedules up for CCP (College Credit Plus) courses, AP courses, and deeper exploration of the subject matters about which they are most passionate.

Unlike elective and specialty courses at other middle schools, all Lutheran West classes meet 5 days per week. This intensive approach is designed to fully engage and immerse students into their areas of study so that they may realize a high degree of academic growth during their middle school years.

The relatively small student body allows Lutheran West to pay close individual attention to each student’s academic plan. With school counselors available to work with middle school students and their families, Lutheran West provides comprehensive planning and execution of optimal student success.

Go for the Faith and Community

It is our belief that a Christ-centered educational approach creates strength in the character and values of students, in our school community, and in the world. The formation of this strength is crucial in the middle school years, when students are forging their own paths toward young adulthood.

Lutheran West provides the comprehensive academic challenges you seek for your child, combined with ample opportunity for them to explore the God-given talents and interests that will guide them into high school and beyond.

Through faith formation classes and weekly all-school Chapel services, middle school students are encouraged to learn about and explore the role that Christian faith plays in their lives.

Lutheran West is rooted in Christian tradition; however, we welcome students of all faith backgrounds who wish to learn and grow in a Christ-centered setting.
