A National Panhellenic Conference Award-winning Panhellenic Association.
A sorority is a student-led organization for women. Providing a strong community, friendship, and support system for its members, sororities enhance the student experience inside and outside of the classroom.
Each chapter at Clemson and other universities is part of a larger national network. They have their own rituals, traditions, symbols, and sometimes housing.
Sororities also focus on giving back through community service and philanthropy, alongside hosting social events and networking opportunities.
Why Should I Join a Sorority?
Joining a sorority is a way for women to make lasting friendships, develop leadership skills, and get involved in campus life, preparing members to make significant contributions beyond the undergraduate experience.

Dr. Doug Hallenbeck serves as the vice president for Clemson University Division of Student Affairs. Hallenbeck was appointed to the role in August 2024 after serving as the Vice President of Student Affairs at Oklahoma State. Hallenbeck previously spent 12 years at Clemson, serving as Executive Director of University Housing and Dining beginning in 2007 before moving into a senior leadership role within Student Affairs in 2015. During his first tenure at Clemson, he played a significant role in the development and construction of first-class student facilities such as housing enhancements in Core Campus and Douthit Hills, and recreation expansion at the Snow Family Outdoor Fitness and Wellness Complex. The Clemson Panhellenic Association (CPA) is the programming and governing body of the fourteen National Panhellenic Conference (NPC) sororities at Clemson University. Every woman who joins a Panhellenic sorority at Clemson University becomes a member of this College Panhellenic Association.
The Panhellenic community at Clemson is comprised of fourteen chapters with an average chapter size of 356 members and one onboarding chapter. The council leaders consist of delegates from each chapter and nine executive officers. These leaders plan and oversee the implementation of the Primary Recruitment process in the fall, host new member education programs, and implement Panhellenic sisterhood events to enhance the unity between all chapters and actively support GirlUp GVL, our local philanthropy.

A “party” refers to the scheduled timeslots where PNMs are in chapter recruitment spaces during the Recruitment week. These parties provide an opportunity for potential new members to meet current sorority members, learn about the organization's values and activities, and determine if they feel a connection with the sorority.
"COB" stands for "Continuous Open Bidding." It refers to the process by which sororities extend bids to potential new members outside of the formal recruitment period. COB allows sororities to recruit additional members to their organization after the formal recruitment events have concluded. Not all chapters at Clemson University have a COB process.
, ΠX)
A Pi Chi is a member of the Panhellenic community who has chosen to disassociate from her own chapter to help unbiasedly lead a group of PNMs through the primary recruitment process.

A Potential New Member (PNM) is a woman who is registered and/or intends to participate in Fall Primary Recruitment at Clemson University. A Potential New Member is also any high school student (grades 9-12), who is considering coming to Clemson or anyone with the intent to participate in CPA Fall Primary Recruitment in the coming year.
A bid refers to an official invitation extended by a sorority to a prospective member to join their organization. It signifies that the sorority has chosen the individual to become a member based on mutual interest and compatibility.
The last day of recruitment, when potential new members receive bids to join chapters and become new members. Each chapter will usually host a Bid Day activity to help the new members get to know each other and the rest of the chapter, like bowling or roller skating. There is to be no alcohol use or men associated with recruitment or Bid Day.
A New Member is a woman who has received a bid from a CPA sorority but is not yet initiated into the chapter.
An initiated member of a sorority currently in college.
When a woman lists only one chapter on her membership recruitment acceptance binding agreement (MRABA) following the preference round of primary recruitment.
A daughter, sister or granddaughter of an initiated member of a sorority. Typically, different NPC member organizations have different definitions of legacies. Being a legacy does not guarantee a bid to a particular sorority. Each NPC member organization has its own policy for invitations to legacies during recruitment.
The number of potential new members that each chapter can offer bids to during primary recruitment. This is determined with a formula involving the number of chapters and the number of women participating in bid matching.
A form completed by an alumna member of a sorority recommending a potential new member for membership. Recommendations may be more important at some campuses than others.
A period of time after the end of membership recruitment events (following Preference Round) and prior to the distribution of bids when there is no communication between potential new members and sorority members.
An option available to chapters that did not match to quota. Chapters may offer bids to potential new members whose preferences were not matched after preference round. Snap bids should be coordinated and extended through the College Panhellenic, prior to the distribution of bids and the start of Bid Day activities.
The allowable chapter size on a campus, as determined by the College Panhellenic, including new and active members. Chapters that fall under total may be allowed to participate in continuous open bidding until they reach total.
A recruitment style that focuses on meaningful conversations between collegiate members and potential new members with the goal of recruiting women who will have a positive impact on chapters and the College Panhellenic community. Nonessential features such as skits, elaborate decorations and costumes are removed from the process, and the focus is on the values, benefits, and obligations of membership for each organization.
Occurs when a recruitment counselor temporarily separates herself from her sorority during the recruitment process to act as an unbiased resource for members participating in recruitment. After the recruitment process, she rejoins her sorority.
At Clemson, our Panhellenic community is built on the values of academics, equality, inclusion, and service. As you go through recruitment, keep these values in mind and consider which chapters align with your own.
Primary Recruitment includes four rounds of events that highlight each sorority's offerings. You'll meet current members and can ask about activities, financial commitments, academic support, new member programs, and campus life. Keep an open mind and think carefully about where you feel most at home in the Greek Community at Clemson.
Recruitment is a mutual selection process where both Potential New Members (PNMs) and sororities make choices. All PNMs will start with viewing videos from every sorority during the Open House round. The next three rounds Philanthropy, Sisterhood, and Preference are by invitation only. You'll rank the chapters you want to revisit, and sororities will invite their preferred PNMs.
Be mindful of what you say about other sororities around others. Always respect others' opinions; you never know someone's connections or how they feel about a particular chapter.
Understand that you may not get invitations to all the events you wish to attend. The Panhellenic Executive Board and Pi Chis will explain the process in detail during Convocation and throughout the week.

Don't believe everything you hear or read on social media. If you find yourself questioning whether something is true, it probably isn't. Please avoid spreading or contributing to unkind rumors. If you have any concerns, feel free to talk to your Pi Chis or a Panhellenic Exec member.
CPA will be gifting you a clear bag to use for Recruitment, as all Recruitment attendees must follow Littlejohn Coliseum’s clear bag policy. You won't be able to bring anything into your parties, so leave your nice purse or bag in your room. Your bag will be left with your Pi Chi in the seats of Littlejohn.
It's August in South Carolina, and it will be extremely hot. Consider wearing lightweight dresses and colors that won't show sweat. Comfort during Recruitment is key to reducing stress.
Bobby pins, hairbrush, portable phone chargers, band-aids, umbrella, oil blotting sheets, snacks, a clear water bottle, deodorant, feminine hygiene products, makeup, pen, flip flops, mints, perfume, your clear Panhellenic tote bag, and most importantly, you!
That’s okay! We know Primary Recruitment can feel overwhelming - and sometimes, it doesn’t go exactly as planned! Continuous Open Bidding, or COB, is a more relaxed and flexible way to join a Panhellenic sorority outside of formal recruitment.
COB is an informal recuitment process that happens after formal recruitment ends in the fall, and again at the start of the spring semester if chapters have space to add new members.
COB is chapter-led, meaning each sorority decides how t wants to connect with PNMs. Events are casual and low-key as oppose to the offical schedules involved in formal recruitment.
Chapters that are below chapter total (a number set by Panhellenic) can choose to extend bids through COB. Not all sororities will participate in COB, and those that do may vary each semester.
Each chapter’s dues vary. Head over to our website for individual financial cards.
An important consideration in deciding to join a sorority should be if you are able to meet the financial requirements of membership.
Membership is most expensive the first semester you join due to many onetime fees. All Panhellenic sororities should be willing to work with each member individually through payment plans to meet the financial obligations of membership. During Round 3 of Primary Recruitment, you will receive a financial card from each chapter you visit. These financial cards will provide a breakdown of the cost of dues for each chapter and where the money goes.
Another financial obligation to joining a Fraternity or Sorority at Clemson is the Fraternity and Sorority Life fee. This fee of $60 each semester covers staffing and programming for the fraternity and sorority community. This fee is placed on the tuition bills of members.
Although Panhellenic does not set a GPA requirement to participate in recruitment, each chapter sets a minimum GPA requirement for membership. It is important to recognize that your GPA may limit you in the recruitment process. Most chapters have approximately a 3.0 high school GPA requirement to be offered a bid during recruitment.
To help students understand how their GPA may affect their primary recruitment process, Panhellenic created Grade Zones to show how academies factor into a PNMs recruitment experience:
High School (first years will refer to this)
Your options are not likely limited based on your GPA.
(second year+ will refer to this)
Your options are more likely to be limited based on your GPA
Your options are very likely to be limited based on your GPA

A recruitment counselor, better known as a Pi Chi, is a member of the Panhellenic community who has chosen to disassociate from her own chapter to help unbiasedly lead a group of PNMs through the primary recruitment.
What you need to know about your Pi Chi:
Your Pi Chi is SO excited to meet you! She has been training for this position for 8 months and could not be more excited to guide you through the Recruitment process.
Your Pi Chi is a resource for you at all times!
Whether you have questions about what to wear during rounds, how to get to a class, or if you are struggling to adiust to life away from home, your Pi Chi will be there for you before, during and after recruitment.
You will also have a Summer Recruitment Counselor that will reach out a few weeks after you complete registration. She will be a resource for you before the formal recruitment period begins.
Your Pi Chi has disassociated from her chapter to be an unbiased resource for you. **Please do not try to reveal her affiliation before Bid Day.
Your Pi Chi was chosen out of a very competitive pool of applicants. We love her and hope you do too!
“Be yourself and you will find the perfect home for you!!! Also take advantage of this fun time to get close with the girls in you pi chi group and lean on your pi chi to help you throughout the process! Coming away from recruitment you will have made long lasting bonds with not only your new sorority sisters, but also with women in other chapter that you will carry throughout your time here at Clemson.”
“Even if a house isn’t your favorite, you still get to go to a party and meet 3 really sweet girls!”
“Remember to have fun! I know it can be a stressful week but focus on the positives!”
“Try not to make an assumptions about the whole chapter based on a 7 minute conversation with one girl”

The parties during Round 3 are informative and allow more time for you to have deeper conversations with the sorority members. Participation in this round will provide you the opportity to learn about membership expectations as well as experiencins the special bond of sisterhood. For Round 3, we suggest presenting yourself in dressy-casual. Think casual dresses, rompers, jumpsuits.
Round 4 events are the last events that you will attend before bid day.
On this day you can visit a maximum of 2 sororities. Each party will last 45 minutes. This round should serve as your opportunity to have your most meaningful conversations with chapter members. During this time, a chapter member may share with you how she made her decision, what her sorority means to her, and overall why she values that sisterhood.
After you attend your last party, you will complete your MRABA.
For Round 4, we suggest wearing a nice dress with wedges or heels.
Think cocktail attire, but keep it classy!
How did you know this chapter was right for you?
What are your favorite memories in your chapter?
Who has impacted you the most in your chapter?
This is a great time to share with the chapter how you’re feeling and ask any questions you are still unsure of to help you make a decision.

The Membership Recruitment Acceptance Binding Agreement (MRABA), previously known as the "Preference Card," is a crucial document in Clemson University's sorority recruitment process. This Is the document that a PNM will sign at the conclusion of her final round in Recruitment.
Here’s what you need to know:
Commitments: By signing the MRABA, PNMs commit to accepting a bid from any sorority they rank. This commitment lasts for one calendar year, from August to August.
Consequences: Once a PNM receives a bid from a listed sorority, she is bound to that sorority for the specified period. Declining a bid from a listed sorority renders PNMs ineligible for Continuous Open Bidding (COB) during specific periods.
Selection Process: PNMs rank sororities visited during the final round, with assistance from her Pi Chi. The paper MRABA and computer selections must match and cannot be altered once submitted.
Options: Before signing, PNMs have options: Withdraw from recruitment and remain eligible for COB.
List sororities they are willing to accept bids from, ensuring no preferences are ranked that they are unwilling to accept. PNMs may also opt for a single preference, though single preferences do not guarantee bids.
Continuous Open Bidding (COB): PNMs not receiving bids from listed sororities remain eligible for COB, though participation from sororities may be limited.
The MRABA ensures clarity and commitment throughout the recruitment process, emphasizing thoughtful decision-making and maximizing options for PNMs.

"Coming from out of state I had no idea what to expect, I had big shoes to fill in terms of sisterhood and knew that I wanted to find my forever best friends through the rush process. After many meaningful conversations I just knew that I was meant to be in AXO, I was constantly welcomed with open arms, genuine conversation, and the feeling of sisterhood. 2 years later, I now live will all my sisters, who are my forever best friends and will be there from bridesmaids to old ladies and everything in between. I truly cannot imagine my life without Alpha Chi Omega, and I wouldn’t have it any other way!"

“Over the past two years ADPi has given me so much more than I could ever give back! When going through recruitment I was looking for community, genuine & steadfast friends who would be forever! I have found that and more within this sisterhood— the biggest blessings of college circle back to ADPi & I would choose it again and again!”

You’ll be seeing and hearing a lot about AOII as you arrive at Clemson. AOII will participate in the first round of Panhellenic recruitment, where you’ll be able to view their chapter video during Convocation along with the other chapters.
Following the first round, AOII’s recruitment events will begin on Wednesday, September 3rd. There will also be plenty of opportunities to meet members of AOII before their recruitment events, especially if traditional Panhellenic recruitment doesn’t align with your plans.
We strive for innovation, a spirit of generosity, a unique bond of sisterhood and high character expectations.
“Being from the Midwest, when I came to Clemson I did not know a single soul. I was in love with the concept of sororities, recruitment, making new friends, and being part of a sisterhood that would last a lifetime. I knew nothing about the different sororities so I went into recruitment with an open mind. Alpha Phi felt like home to me right away. Their elegant style and genuinely welcoming, fun, and spirited aura was just perfect. My bid day buddy Caroline was so sweet and made bid day so memorable for me. My big Nikki, what can I say, she is like a best friend, a sister and an admirable role model all rolled up into one amazing person. With the many other great friendships I have formed as a sister in Alpha Phi, I am so grateful to this chapter. From fundraisers to almost weekly themed mixers – there is never a dull moment. I have gotten so many great experiences that I will carry with me through my lifetime. Alpha Phi is truly the place to be.”

“Why did I choose Chi O…. Where do I begin… where else would I find friends that laugh with me as hard and as loud as my friends in chi o. Where else would I find friends that constantly put a smile on my face and light up my day (in the rare occasion I’m not smiling). From the moment I walked into Chi O at rush I knew this is where I belonged, where i was meant to be, and sure enough it couldn’t have folded out better. Who would have thought I would call my next door neighbors on the hall my best friends, chi o, a place where strangers become friends, and friends become sisters. But what an adventure this has been, and I say this in complete honesty, I would not change a thing for the world."

Hey PC 25! I am a senior Tri Delta from Greenville, SC! Looking back on my 3 years in Tri Delta is something that I can proudly say has shaped me into the person that I am today. Now, we all know that it s not where you are but who you surround yourself with - the women in this chapter have inspired me to strive to be encouraging, loyal, silly, loving, adventurous, and kind to everyone. From living on the 5th floor in manning, to living on the sorority quad, to living off campus with 30 of my best friends, there have been more friendships and memories than I can count. While in Tri Delta, I had the opportunity to serve as the PC 23 new member ‘mom’ which gave me the chance to create meaningful relationships with girls that were 2 years younger than me. Whether it was going on coffee dates, having a scavenger hunt around campus, or getting excited as I walked past them on the way to class, I loved having a friendship with each and every one of them. That is something that is truly unique about Tri Delta - being able to call 300 girls (whether a freshman or senior) your friends and sisters. It's having girls that genuinely care about each other and want to see each other succeed in and out of college. Now, my time at Clemson and in Greek life is about to end, but I know that a part of my story will always lie within Tri Delta and my friendships there.
Coming to Clemson from a small town in Southwest Virginia, the idea of joining a sorority was a foreign concept to me and I was not yet ready to dive into Greek Life I had a great freshman year experience, but I knew something was missing. I decided to officially register for primary recruitment for Fall 2023. Recruitment is an emotional rollercoaster for everyone, but I knew going through the process as a sophomore would present me with more challenges than most I found myself fighting to find the right fit, and at times I didn’t think there was a place for me in a sorority at all. The only place that I felt truly at home was with Delta Gamma. The DG’s that I had met during my freshman year are some of the most bubbly and genuine girls I’ve met to this day. Two of my roommates were already members in DG, so I thought I knew everything there was to know Going through primary recruitment showed me just how wrong I was. Every party I had with DG, I was greeted by the most welcoming, smiling faces. Everyone I had previously met had gone out of their way to give me a hug which made it clear how excited these girls were to have me there About halfway through recruitment I was still unsure if DG was the right fit, but Preference Round changed everything Listening to my roommate Bella’s “Why DG” story helped me find my own reason for wanting to wear the Golden Anchor. I felt that Delta Gamma was the one place I could truly be myself and grow into the person I strived to be. I knew that I would be surrounded by sisters who would support me in my college endeavors and remain my best friends for my entire life. I saw myself guiding others through recruitment and taking on a leadership position of my own someday. Looking back almost a year later, I am now serving as Delta Gamma’s Director of Sisterhood, and I have no doubt that deciding to join DG was the best decision I’ve ever made

“Coming from out of state not knowing anyone, I knew I wanted to join a sorority that gave me supportive friends, leadership opportunities, and many ways to get involved. Delta Zeta has given me that and so much more! I have been so fortunate to live on the Delta Zeta hall and be involved in planning recruitment which have both helped me meet so many people and get more involved than I ever thought I could be! Joining Delta Zeta has given me life long friends and the most fun memories to look back on.”

“I went through formal recruitment my freshman year with no idea what to expect. I was so nervous going into it, but it beyond exceeded my expectations! My Pi Chi and every chapter I talked to were so kind, but Gamma Phi stood out to me throughout the whole recruitment process. Every time I went into Gamma Phi, I was at ease, and every conversation I had was so easy and real. I instantly clicked with everyone I talked to in Gamma Phi! I remember feeling so overjoyed when I opened my bid day card and saw Gamma Phi Beta! Now that I have been in Gamma Phi for almost two years, I can say joining was one of my best decisions! I have met some of my closest friends in college through Gamma Phi and had so many opportunities because I joined! I used to not believe in the whole “this is how you’ll meet your future bridesmaids” story, but I’m here to tell you it’s the truth. I can genuinely see the friends I’ve made in Gamma Phi sticking by my side for the rest of my life! I am so proud to say that I am a member of Gamma Phi Beta at Clemson University!”

“Being a KD sister means to be supportive to everyone in the chapter and really being a shoulder to lean on. I love how involved everyone is and how passionate we each are about our different interests. Even though we are all different we come together and support each other in the best way; we are all held together by a common heart string. I have made some of my best friends in KD and I am so grateful!”

"while my freshman year at clemson was great, I always knew that there was something missing to truly make it feel like home. that missing piece was pi phi. joining this sisterhood has, without a doubt, been one of the most incredible decisions i’ve ever made each day, I find myself overflowing with gratitude for all that pi phi has given me. from amazing roommates who became my closest friends, to endless laughter, to longlasting memories, and everything else that fills the space in between. I never understood the excitement people had for joining a sorority until I found pi phi. being surrounded by such a supportive and remarkable group of women has not only inspired me, but helped me grow into the best version of myself. being an angel holds such a special place in my heart, and it’s a beautiful aspect of my life that I get to share with so many incredible girls. i absolutely adore this chapter and bond we share!"

"My experience in Sigma Kappa, Kappa Pi is something I could genuinely talk about for hours! Coming into Clemson as the only person from my high school in Austin, Texas, I really had no expectations for how branching out or finding my people would go. I signed up for Primary Recruitment without having a mother or sister to compare an experience to, but knew I needed that push to cultivate new relationships outside of my comfort zone. Sigma Kappa was my first party on Philanthropy Day 1, and it was immediately an immense sense of comfort I ended up meeting my future big on Sisterhood Day 1, and when I talked to her again during Preference Round, I confidently told her Sigma Kappa was the place I wanted to be and that I would suicide bid. From Bid Day to now, our four values of friendship, loyalty, service, and personal growth are something that I have experienced first-hand in anything I have been a part of. From being someone who is nervous to talk in large groups, my fellow sisters have instilled a confidence in me that I never would have uncovered alone, and have pushed me into opportunities with unwavering support What I love about Kappa Pi is our diversity and appreciation for our differences, which in turn creates an overwhelming feeling of acceptance. This feeling of being accepted for being unapologetically me has given me the confidence to be in leadership roles like our current Vice President of Standards and Values, as well as the chance to be in wonderful opportunities like Sigma Kappa’s 2024 Miss Clemson University Scholarship Pageant representative Given that I have gained so much in only two years and still have two more left, I am immensely grateful for the sisterhood of Kappa Pi!"

“Coming from a tight-knit group of girlfriends at home, sisterhood holds immense importance to me, and through the recruitment process, I sought a genuine sisterhood resembling what I grew up with Choosing Zeta, I discovered not just friends for four years, but sisters for life. Each member embodied Zeta's nine key values: being rather than seeming, humility, leadership, lifelong learning, love, loyalty, responsibility, seeking understanding for true wisdom, and service. The unity and affection within Zeta were evident in their interactions and campus involvement. Zeta has shown me what it means to belong to a loving, supportive community, enriching my Clemson experience and beyond Volunteering at the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K walk in Greenville stands out as a cherished memory, where I connected with survivors and fighters, offering support and empowerment. Serving as Sunshine Chair on the programs council allowed me to deepen my bonds with my sisters. Reflecting on my recruitment experience, joining Zeta has made me a better leader, sister, and friend, and I'm grateful for the lifelong friendships and future bridesmaids I've found.”
