Why did The Seymour Inn cross the road? Around the end of the 19th Century La Rocque Inn was situated on the sea side of the East coast road opposite the current Seymour Inn. Initially this was called Mary Jane’s, after the matronly landlady Mary Jane Le Vesconte. As well as being a public house, Mary Jane’s was a grocery store, with a small tearoom attached. It was very popular with farm workers, fishermen and the vraicers, but had rather a reputation and dubious opening hours.

It is believed that in the 1930’s the public house moved across the road into larger premises, to a house then called Seymour Place, and became the Seymour Inn.
