November is a wonderful time of the year. It’s not quite Christmas, but it is a time of giving thanks and reflecting on the blessings we share. This includes being thankful for our veterans who give so much in a selfless way. Many of our member businesses are owned or run by veterans, and some members specifically serve this important population. You’ll see them featured in this issue of Connections.
With another successful Lobsterfest behind us, we have just a few weeks left in our 90th anniversary year. And what a year it’s been! Our merger with the Montgomery Area Chamber of Commerce back in March was certainly one of the highlights. It has fueled us with unparalleled growth and created a synergy among the business community from the east side of the lake to the west. We are, indeed, a community on the move. Another highlight was the D.C. Fly-In in September, as a cohort of Chamber leaders advocated with our elected officials on behalf of our entire membership. Your voice is being heard not only in Austin, but in the halls and offices of Congress in our nation’s capitol.
From the Chamber to you, we wish you a bountiful Thanksgiving, a Merry Christmas, and an incredible New Year in 2025!
Scott Harper President
Special thanks to the Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Park for allowing the Chamber to use the park for its photo shoot. The photography was provided by Cam Light Video, which is owned by Chamber board member Carl White and his wife Gloria. Carl is also a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army from 1975-79.

Participants in the Chamber’s Young Professionals Network (YPN) understand the importance of having a well-rounded career. This includes making time to meet up with like-minded professionals, sharing ideas, growing professionally, and giving back to their community. Throughout the summer and fall months, YPN members balanced these important components of professional and personal success.

YPN’s focus in September was networking. Members gathered at one of Conroe’s newest and amenity-rich apartment complexes – Ariza Westview – for some relaxation and fellowship.

In August, YPN’s professional development activity was a lunchand-learn (sponored by SB&K Benefits) on the topic of “Growing Your Digital Network.” Marc Linabury, President & CEO of the Greater East Montgomery County Chamber, gave attendees sage advice on how to optimize social media channels to enhance both your personal and professional brand. Linabury stressed the importance of balancing digital and virtual networking with face-toface encounters, as both strategies

Recently, the Diplomats participated in a “fairy tale” of sorts. Check out this modern-day take on Cinderella – a video shot by Chamber member Plunk Productions, which centered on the elusive green jacket that the Diplomats used to wear back in the 1960s through the early 2000s.

As new members join the Chamber, the need for more Diplomats grows! In recent months, five new Diplomats were added to our passionate group of volunteers.
Throughout the summer and fall, the Diplomats have shown up strong at Chamber events, including monthly luncheons, networking events and, of course, our frequent ribbon-cutting ceremonies, in addition to regular meetings of their own.
The Diplomat team assisted in putting together supplies for new Montgomery ISD teachers as part of “Get Back to Work” Day in August.

Montgomery County is home to a vibrant community of veteran-owned businesses that contribute not only to the local economy but also to the cultural fabric of the area. Supporting these businesses is not just a matter of economic interest; it’s a commitment to honoring the sacrifices made by our veterans and fostering a strong, resilient community.
According to the U.S. Small Business Administration, veterans are 45% more likely to become entrepreneurs than nonveterans. These businesses create jobs,
drive innovation, and contribute to the local tax base. By choosing to support veteran-owned enterprises, residents help stimulate economic growth and create a more robust job market. Moreover, a thriving veteran business community can inspire future generations to embrace entrepreneurship and innovation.
As we celebrate and recognize veterans –on Veterans Day and every day – here are a few veteran-owned Chamber businesses that deserve your attention.
“I am extremely proud to have served our country. It provided me with a solid foundation. As a local business owner, I want each and every customer to know that pride. I want every project to reflect those values.”
– JARED BURNS
JARED BURNS, OWNER
U.S. AIR FORCE (2002-08)
WHAT WAS YOUR MILITARY ROLE?
I was a Security Forces Staff Sergeant (SSgt) NonCommissioned Officer In Charge (NCOIC) of Physical Security & Resource Protection.
DESCRIBE HOW YOUR MILITARY SERVICE HAS IMPACTED YOUR LIFE. The military directly influenced the man I am today. It reinforced my understanding of respect, integrity, and dedication to my trade. Military service provided me with a beginning, if you will. A good start. After September 11, 2001, many of us were lost. I wanted to do something. At 19 years old and no real skills to speak of, the military checked just enough boxes. They offered to train me, gave me guaranteed work throughout my enlistment, and allowed me to start my family.
DID YOUR MILITARY SERVICE HAVE AN INFLUENCE ON STARTING YOUR CURRENT BUSINESS?
I am fortunate to have grown up in the fence industry. I’m a third generation fence man, and even though my call to service was directly influenced by homeland security events in 2001, I’ve been able to further develop and translate my knowledge of physical security and resource protection into my company and my outstanding team. Security Forces gave me specific skills to propel me with in the fence construction industry. My duty was to ensure the daily protection & security of USAF assets & personnel. I’ve taken these tools and adapted them to better serve my community and my industry.
HAVE YOU HIRED OTHER VETERANS INTO YOUR BUSINESS?
Just this year I was fortunate enough to cross paths with a fellow veteran in search of a place to grow. After an interview, I hired him to be a shop welder. He hit the ground running and quickly took over as shop foreman in a matter of months.
WHAT CHALLENGES DO VETERANS HAVE WHEN IT COMES TO STARTING/OPERATING A BUSINESS?
I have nothing but positive things to say. I have been absolutely blessed to live in this community with such a vast appreciation for our service men & women. There are so many resources available and just as many people willing to show you the way.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE VETERANS CONSIDERING THE NEXT PHASE OF THEIR CAREER?
Do your research. As I said, there are so very many resources available to guide the way. Talk to your family & friends. Sometimes people overlook the support they have right in front of them. Trust your training. You have to start somewhere, no one truly knows where. Find your somewhere.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT THAT WE RECOGNIZE VETERANS?
As with anyone, you never know what they’ve been through or what they are going through. Military service is a badge of honor we wear proudly. You can tell quite a bit about a person from the choices they’ve made in the past. Everyone deserves recognition. Everyone should know that their hard work & dedication does not go unnoticed.
ED JOYAL U.S. NAVY (1970-76)
DESCRIBE YOUR MILITARY CAREER.
I went through the flight training for two years and ended up as a carrier pilot - although I flew in many aircraft including several jets and multi-engine prop aircraft, the majority of my flying time was spent in an A4 Skyhawk. I pioneered and directed the US Navy Leadership and Management Training program out of Newport, RI, (near where I was born) for two years. Then, I did a two-year tour as an advanced jet instructor at NAS Beeville. I have the distinction of being selected as the Chief of Naval Air Training's pilot for his private A-4 Skyhawk - a pristine A4 that had its maiden flight directly from the McDonald Douglas factory in St. Louis, MO, to my VT-25 Squadron where they gave me "the keys.” I flew that around the country for two additional years - a dream tour of epic proportions.
Attorneys Ed Joyal and his daughter, Rosemarie Joyal, are proud partners of The Joyal Law Firm. Both served in the U.S. Navy.
WHAT LED UP TO YOUR MILITARY SERVICE?
My military career was more or less a continuum of the many years where I grew up in private boarding schools in Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Maine, from the 8th grade thru obtaining my B.S. in Aeronautics at St. Louis University. It is interesting that, although I have seven brothers and seven sisters, I essentially grew up alone in these boarding schools. The integrity and ethics that were instilled in me at those academies was the perfect preparation for the responsibilities and obligations of the US Navy.
HOW DID YOUR CAREER PROGRESS AFTER YOUR MILITARY SERVICE?
After leaving the Navy as a lieutenant, I built homes in Kingwood in the late 70s and then went to Port Aransas, on Mustang Island where I became the vice president of marketing for a beachfront resort condominium developer. Five years living on the beach wasn't so bad, but in 1989, following the oil embargo and real estate crash, I attended South Texas College of Law and graduated three years later to open The Joyal Law Firm in Corpus Christi. I practiced in the Family Law courts and the Federal Criminal District Courts and Appellate Courts for several years. I moved to Houston in 1997 and grew my law practice in Conroe with the addition of four more attorneys - downsizing several years later when my daughter Rosemarie (who is also a Navy Ensign veteran) graduated from the University of Houston Law School and joined the Joyal Law Firm.
HOW DID YOUR MILITARY SERVICE INFLUENCE YOUR LIFE?
The US military is the great mix master of our population, taking men and women from all quarters of the country and putting them in the military blender. That alone has an incredible, positive impact on people's lives. My three wonderful children and my awesome grandchildren and now my great-grandchildren would not be alive if I had not been brought to Corpus Christi by the Navy where I met my wonderful wife Grace with whom I have been married for 51 years. How can that influence be measured?
Now, I am operating a boutique real estate and probate law practice in Conroe. I have been a real estate broker for over 35 years and have been licensed to practice law for 31 years.
HOW DO YOU GIVE BACK TO, OR RECOGNIZE, OTHER VETERANS?
I have had a very fortunate life and I fully understand that that is not always the case with military veterans who have sacrificed and continue to endure far more than I can imagine. To them I profess my profound respect and gratitude, and I contribute free legal advice in organized and private settings.
Many military veterans have sacrificed and continue to endure far more than I can imagine. To them I profess my profound respect and gratitude.
– ED JOYAL
MICHAEL FREEMAN, OWNER
U.S. NAVY (1989-93)
WHAT WAS YOUR MILITARY TITLE?
3rd class Operations Specialist (These Navy sailors operate equipment on naval vessels and perform a variety of other duties.)
DESCRIBE HOW YOUR MILITARY SERVICE HAS IMPACTED YOUR LIFE?
As a teenager not knowing what I wanted to do with my life after high school, I figured that serving for our country could help me in making that decision. Though it never really helped in that regard, it did teach me lots of life lessons. The military taught me how to pay attention to detail and have respect for others. I also learned how great we have it as Americans and to never take that for granted. This has helped me tremendously while being an owner/operator in my business. I take great pride in our work. We try to be the fastest while maintaining the highest quality of work. Mistakes will happen and I take it personally when they do. I was taught to treat people like you want to be treated.
HAVE YOU HIRED OTHER VETERANS INTO YOUR BUSINESS?
Yes, but not necessarily because they have military experience.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT THAT WE RECOGNIZE VETERANS?
Most veterans are people that have selflessly enlisted, for whatever reason, knowing that they can be called to put their life on the line to protect our country and values at any time. Other veterans didn't have a choice, they were chosen through the draft to protect our nation. Either way it’s not a job to be taken lightly. Veterans know that the ultimate sacrifice could happen anytime during their enlistment to protect our nation.
WHAT SHOULD A COMMUNITY DO TO SUPPORT ITS VETERAN POPULATION?
There’s a lot a community can do to support them. But, very simply, just show the appreciation, if they have any, and understand that not all experiences in the military are good.
HOW DOES OUR COMMUNITY SUPPORT VETERANS?
We have the Montgomery County Veterans Memorial Park. That is a very big, visible way of showing support.
CLARENCE THOMAS, CO-OWNER, U.S. MARINE CORPS (1995-2016)
WHAT WAS YOUR MILITARY TITLE? 1371 - Combat Engineer. (These Marines understand how to breach and clear doors, disable basic explosives, and search buildings for booby traps. Additionally, they know how to use woodworking to build structures that can be used for both temporary and long-term use.)
DESCRIBE HOW YOUR MILITARY SERVICE HAS IMPACTED YOUR LIFE. Band of Brothers (and Sisters) and Semper Fidelis holds near and dear to my heart.
The Marine Corps reenforced the morals and values instilled into me by my parents. Understanding the importance of honor, courage and commitment to service. These values are showcased in the way I live my life and how I lead my family.
DID YOUR MILITARY SERVICE HAVE AN INFLUENCE ON STARTING YOUR CURRENT BUSINESS?
Yes. I have always believed that helping others has been my calling. Being a Marine helps tie my passion and my willingness to succeed together.
HAVE YOU HIRED OTHER VETERANS INTO YOUR BUSINESS?
I have not hired other veterans, but I definitely work hand in hand with service members through mentorship programs and coaching youth sports.
WHAT CHALLENGES DO VETERANS HAVE WHEN IT COMES TO STARTING/ OPERATING A BUSINESS?
I cannot speak for all service members but one of the biggest challenges that I faced was funding, whether through grants or SBA loans.
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE VETERANS WHO ARE CONSIDERING THE NEXT PHASE OF THEIR CAREER?
Be patient and stay committed to your cause. Do not take short cuts. Gather as much information about what you need to accomplish to establish and open your business. If you’re transitioning or have retired from the service, allow yourself time to decompress. Get involved and get to know your community where you live or want to live.
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT THAT WE RECOGNIZE VETERANS?
I will start out by saying that Marines do not do what we do for recognition. But if I had to say something, it is important because
of the sacrifice and commitment that we chose to make for our country and for our fellow man.
Service members hear our communities say all the time, that they support military service members. It is time to show action to those words. Please show your support by stopping by Sylvan Learning Center of N. Conroe/Willis. Give us an opportunity to help your students' academic needs and growth. Even though I am no longer fighting on the battlefield, we here at Sylvan Learning Center of North Conroe/Willis are doing our best to win the war for academic success.

* IF YOU ARE A VETERAN-OWNED BUSINESS, PLEASE CONTACT THE CHAMBER OR UPDATE YOUR DIRECTORY INFORMATION IN CHAMBERMASTER. WE WANT TO ACKNOWLEDGE YOUR SERVICE!
There’s no question that the Conroe/Lake Conroe region loves to put on special events. From county-wide shindigs to smaller, more intimate affairs, we know how to throw a party.
Fortunately, we have a number of facilities – from longtime mainstays to newer venues – that can accommodate most any crowd. Several of our Chamber members stand ready to host these special occasions, each providing unique features and atmospheres to suit various tastes and preferences.
These venues not only offer diverse options for event planning but also contribute significantly to Montgomery County’s local economy. They support local businesses through partnerships with caterers, florists, and event planners, and they draw visitors from outside the county, boosting local tourism and commerce.
Here’s a brief overview of three notable venues in the area that, while known for their wedding services, can host many different types of events.
200 E. Phillips St. Conroe, TX 77301 | thevalevenue.com
Nestled in historic downtown Conroe, The Vale holds tight to its 110-year-history through modernized, yet original, architecture, private gardens, bountiful landscape, serene fountains, and hand-laid paver stones – each a reminder of memorable events throughout the years. The recently renovated property is the ideal combination of historic charm and modern elegance. The chapel provides the perfect backdrop for a dream ceremony. Guests can mingle throughout the courtyards and celebrate with dinner and dancing in the brand-new reception hall. There is truly something special at every turn. From a capacity standpoint, The Vale can accommodate a range of event sizes, from intimate gatherings to larger celebrations, making it suitable for most any occasion.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU OWNED THE BUSINESS?
We purchased this property in April 2022.
HOW HAS THE BUSINESS (OR INDUSTRY) CHANGED OVER THE PAST 5-10 YEARS? ALSO, ARE THERE ANY TRENDS IN TERMS OF WEDDINGS AND/OR SPECIAL EVENTS THAT HAVE CAUSED YOUR BUSINESS TO PIVOT/ADJUST?
We entered the wedding industry just as the initial impact of covid was lessening. The wedding industry was booming and so many couples were looking to get married. As things have settled, we have noticed a steadier stream (versus a giant boom) of potential brides and grooms. Particularly for The Vale, over the last year or so we have seen an increase in couples looking for a more intimate space that is different from other venues in the area, more charming and unique. We are finding for so many of these couples that The Vale is just the ticket.
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR THE VALE? ANY NEW FEATURES ON THE HORIZON?
We are always striving to evolve with the industry we are in. We recently completed the renovation of our chapel and would love to allow overnight stays for clients in our historic home at some point in the near future.
WHAT MAKES THIS SUCH A SPECIAL “INDUSTRY” TO BE IN?
Getting to be the backdrop for such a special day is such a privilege. Knowing we have created a venue that a little girl has dreamed of all her life is truly an indescribable feeling. It is an honor to be a part of the beginning of so many love stories and if we can make the experience seamless and stress-free for our couples then we are doing our job well.
3201 N. Frazier St. Conroe, TX 77303 | maderaestates.com
Madera Estates is in north Conroe, a region renowned for its beauty and scenic surroundings. The venue features a blend of Mediterranean and rustic designs, with stunning architectural details and luxurious finishes. It offers a grand ballroom with crystal chandeliers, a beautiful outdoor garden, and a charming chapel. These spaces can be utilized for both ceremonies and receptions. Madera Estates provides a comprehensive event planning experience, including catering, decor, and coordination services. The venue can accommodate large gatherings, making it ideal for grand celebrations and elaborate events.
Madera Estates stands out as a one-of-a-kind wedding and event venue due to its Spanish inspiration and worldly architecture. The venue’s design creates an atmosphere that transports guests, making them feel as if they are no longer in Texas, offering a unique and unforgettable experience.
HOW LONG HAVE YOU OWNED THE BUSINESS? We celebrated 13 years in September!
HOW HAS THE BUSINESS CHANGED OVER THE PAST 5-10 YEARS? ALSO, ARE THERE ANY TRENDS IN TERMS OF WEDDINGS AND/OR SPECIAL EVENTS THAT HAVE CAUSED YOUR BUSINESS TO PIVOT/ADJUST?
Over the past 5-10 years, we have evolved to meet the changing demands of the wedding and special events industry. We’ve continued to refine our guest experience and expand our services to provide a more immersive, memorable atmosphere particularly for the next generation of couples. The rise of experiential weddings, where couples seek highly personalized and thematic celebrations, has caused us to pivot by investing in our venue’s aesthetic and adding customizable elements that reflect each couple’s unique wedding vision. Additionally, trends such as smaller, more intimate weddings and a focus on outdoor spaces have influenced how we operate. We’ve adapted by making our outdoor areas more flexible for different event sizes and embracing the demand for unique, Instagram-worthy backdrops, which our Spanishinspired architecture naturally provides.
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR MADERA? ANY NEW FEATURES ON THE HORIZON?
The future of Madera Estates looks bright, with exciting enhancements on the horizon. We recently completed renovations of our two on-site dressing suites, the Champagne Suite and Whiskey Lounge, offering our couples even more luxurious and comfortable spaces to prepare for their special day. Additionally, we have plans for further capital improvements to ensure that we continue to provide a top-tier experience for our couples while also serving the broader Conroe community.
WHAT MAKES THIS SUCH A SPECIAL “INDUSTRY” TO BE IN?
At Madera Estates, we believe our industry is about far more than just planning events; we’re memory makers. We craft moments that become lifelong stories, touching the hearts of those we serve in ways we may never fully realize. Whether it’s the joy of a father-daughter dance, a heartfelt speech, or the laughter shared among loved ones, we provide an escape from the everyday, allowing people to create memories that stay with them forever.
11780 Calfee Rd. Conroe, TX 77304 | forever5events.com
Forever Five is nestled in a tranquil setting, providing a serene escape from the hustle and bustle of city life. It is just east of Lake Conroe off Longmire Road, just north of League Line Road. The venue offers a cozy and intimate atmosphere with rustic elegance. It features charming indoor spaces and picturesque outdoor settings. Known for its personalized service, Forever Five focuses on creating a unique experience tailored to each client’s vision. The venue is suited for more intimate gatherings (200 or less), providing a personalized and memorable experience.
WHAT MAKES FOREVER FIVE “STAND OUT” AS A SPECIAL EVENT/WEDDING VENUE?
We are unique in design and experience. Forever 5 offers a rare blend of indoor & outdoor spaces starting with our modern reception space. Taking inspiration from greenhouses with floor to ceiling windows it sits on a oneacre pond bringing the outdoors inside in a fresh new way. Match that with our one-of-a-kind ceremony area boasting weeping willows and four 24’ tall hand-built arches covered in wisteria, your wedding is sure to rival those of storybook romances!
March 2021
HOW HAS THE BUSINESS CHANGED OVER THE PAST 5-10 YEARS? ALSO, ARE THERE ANY TRENDS IN TERMS OF WEDDINGS AND/OR SPECIAL EVENTS THAT HAVE CAUSED YOUR BUSINESS TO PIVOT/ADJUST?
With our fourth anniversary coming up in March 2025, we are still adapting our services to best care for our couples and clients. We are finding our stride now and growing leaps and bounds every year. Being family owned allows us the flexibility to truly accommodate our couples & clients.
WHAT DOES THE FUTURE HOLD FOR FOREVER FIVE?
We are always adding & making improvements to the property. We are currently growing our rental options for clients, like backdrop arches, linens, and floating bars.
WHAT MAKES THIS SUCH A SPECIAL “INDUSTRY” TO BE IN?
We started this family business to help make an impact in honor of Garett Christopher Hall, the first grandson. He passed away at five years old and is our namesake. In his honor every year we make a donation from our profits to childhood cancer research. It’s an incredible feeling knowing that with the celebration of people’s happiest days we can benefit the children going through some of their worst days.
PINK SHUTTER HOUSE is a charming, Instagramworthy venue that has become a favorite for intimate gatherings and personal celebrations. Nestled just north of downtown Conroe, this venue offers a whimsical, vintage-inspired ambiance with its distinctive pink exterior and beautifully landscaped gardens. Inside, the space is thoughtfully designed with modern amenities while maintaining a cozy, homey feel. Ideal for bridal showers, birthday parties, and small weddings, Pink Shutter House excels in providing a personalized experience that makes every event memorable. facebook.com/PinkShutterHouse
CHANDLER’S EVENT VENUE stands out with its versatile and spacious setting. Located centrally in the historic city of Montgomery, Chandler’s combines elegance with functionality, offering a charming backdrop that is relaxed, refined and a little bit eclectic. It is the
perfect private venue for celebrating with family, friends and business associates without any hassles. At Chandler’s, you can announce an engagement, hold a rehearsal dinner, celebrate a bridal or baby shower, commemorate a milestone birthday or gather for a corporate retreat. chandlerseventvenue.com

According to five-year American Community Survey estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau, from 2016-21 the veteran population across Conroe and Montgomery ZIP codes increased 1 1.28 percent. Furthermore, the number of these veterans who need support services is increasing exponentially.
According to Mighty Oaks Foundation, it is reported that nationally, 22 veterans are committing suicide every single day. This terrible statistic is at the heart of Mighty Oaks’ mission. We conversed with their leadership team to find out more.
Mighty Oaks Foundation was founded in 2011 by Chad Robichaux, a former Marine Force Recon and MMA champion. After experiencing the challenges of post-traumatic stress (PTS) following his military service, Chad sought healing through his Christian faith. His personal transformation inspired him to create Mighty Oaks as a faith-based organization focused on helping veterans, active-duty service members, first responders, and their families overcome PTS and other combat-related issues.
Mighty Oaks began by providing peer-to-peer programs grounded in Christian values, aiming to restore individuals’ lives through a relationship with Christ. The foundation’s flagship program, the Legacy Program, provides intensive week-long programs designed to equip warriors with the tools, strategies, and resources to make the necessary changes to live the lives they were created to live.

faith-based programs designed to help them overcome the struggles associated with combat trauma, post-traumatic stress (PTS), and other challenges. Their support includes Legacy Programs, which are intensive, peer-to-peer programs for veterans, active-duty service members, first responders, and their spouses. Held at various locations, the programs focus on healing through Christian discipleship, helping warriors align their lives with God’s purpose. It also includes Resiliency Events, which are conducted for active-duty military and first responders, providing tools and strategies to prevent future challenges like PTS and suicide. The programs emphasize spiritual readiness, mental toughness, and leadership development to build resilience.
WHY WAS MONTGOMERY COUNTY CHOSEN AS THE HEADQUARTERS?
Mighty Oaks Foundation recently relocated its headquarters in Montgomery County. We were founded here and then moved to California to be near our first ranch. Now, as we have expanded to five ranches nationwide, we are happy to be back home where it all started. There is something very special about this community, and we are thrilled to bring it back.
THE MIGHTY OAKS FOUNDATION IS COMMITTED TO SERVING THE BROKENHEARTED BY PROVIDING INTENSIVE PEER-BASED DISCIPLESHIP THROUGH A SERIES OF PROGRAMS, OUTPOST MEETINGS, AND SPEAKING EVENTS.
HOW DOES MIGHTY OAKS MAKE ITS PRESENCE KNOWN AMONG VETERANS IN THE
Through active community engagement, outreach events, and an impactful online presence. By partnering with local veteran organizations, churches, and community groups, the foundation raises awareness of its programs and mission. Outreach events, such as the annual Warrior Gala, Warrior Banquet, and Veterans Day Run, are significant opportunities to bring veterans, supporters, and community leaders together while promoting the foundation’s work. Additionally, Mighty Oaks utilizes social media and digital marketing to reach veterans locally and nationally, amplifying its message through testimonials and event promotions. A strong alumni network also plays a crucial role in spreading awareness.
AS A NON-PROFIT, WHAT IS THE ORGANIZATION’S MOST SIGNIFICANT NEED IN TERMS OF SUPPORT?
Mighty Oaks Foundation needs financial support to sustain and grow its programs. Since the foundation offers its faithbased Legacy Programs to veterans, active-duty service members, and their families at no cost, funding is essential to cover expenses such as travel, accommodations, meals, and program materials. One of the most pressing needs is sponsorships for warriors, as attending a Legacy Program costs around $3,500 per participant. Additionally, with the growing demand for its services, financial contributions are necessary to expand the number of sessions and locations to reach more veterans and their families. While financial contributions are crucial, volunteer support and partnerships are vital for event planning, alumni engagement, and increasing awareness of the foundation’s mission.
WHAT EVENTS DOES MIGHTY OAKS HOLD TO RAISE FUNDS AND AWARENESS FROM THE LOCAL COMMUNITY?
Mighty Oaks Foundation hosts two major fundraising events each year: the Warrior Banquet in Huntsville, TX, in January
and the Warrior Gala in The Woodlands, TX, in October. These events bring together supporters, veterans, and community leaders to raise essential funds and highlight the impact of the foundation’s work. In addition to these fundraisers, Mighty Oaks organizes a Veterans Day Run in Conroe to raise awareness of the challenges veterans face and engage the local community in supporting the foundation’s mission. This year’s Run took place in November at Heritage Place Park.
IS ON THE HORIZON FOR MIGHTY OAKS? WHAT NEW THINGS IS THE ORGANIZATION WORKING ON?
Mighty Oaks Foundation is focused on expanding its reach and impact by increasing the number of Legacy Programs and adding new locations to accommodate the growing demand from veterans and their families. This expansion effort aims to enhance the foundation’s ability to provide support to more individuals in need.

The Chamber’s 38th annual October ode to crustaceans (as well as steak and golf!) was a tremendous success both in terms of fun and funds raised! The net proceeds from Lobsterfest, presented by Woodforest National Bank, help further the Chamber’s annual programs for members. Based on the feedback from attendees, as well as the record amount that was raised, no one left disappointed – or with an empty stomach! Lobsterfest, which has been going strong since 1987, kicked off on Oct. 3 with the first of two golf tournaments that were sponsored by Howard Hughes at Panorama Golf Course. The weather was perfect as the golfers teed off and made their way around the beautiful course. Texas First Bank earned first place honors with Jeffery Moon & Associates finishing at 7th place and Memorial Hermann Surgery Center Conroe earning 13th honors.
Later that evening, more than 1,000 people gathered at the Lone Star Convention & Expo Center to enjoy the famous steak & lobster dinner, a massive silent and live auction, and plenty of fellowship.
“Lobsterfest has been called Conroe/Lake Conroe’s homecoming,” said Scott Harper, Chamber
President. “It is a time of celebration with our business community and local residents coming together for a great time. It seems to get better and better every year. There’s nothing else like it.”
Lobsterfest concluded the following day back at Panorama G.C. with another flight of golfers. The team from Advanced Freight Dynamics earned first place honors, with McKenzie’s Barbecue & Burgers garnering 7th place, and Entergy Texas nabbing 13th place accolades.
Lobsterfest would not be possible without the dedication of time and resources among hundreds of Chamber members and volunteers. This includes the Chamber Diplomats and Young Professionals Network members who helped decorate the Lobsterfest ballroom, as well as the team of cookers who prepared the steak and lobster dinner.
Harper also recognized the financial support of the growing number of sponsors.
“It truly takes a village to make this event work, and our village keeps expanding every year. We are fortunate to have member businesses that recognize the value of sponsoring at Lobsterfest – be it on the golf course or at the dinner. They all pull together, along with our staff, and make it a success.”
In early September, a Chamber delegation consisting of members of the Executive Board, along with President Scott Harper and Director of Community Relations Shannan Reid, visited Washington, DC. The trip was strategically designed to explore critical aspects of workforce development and community sustainability within the Conroe/ Lake Conroe region.
The delegation's primary objective was to gain insights into how various federal policies and programs can enhance the region's ability to support its growing businesses and meet future demands. As part of the Chamber's commitment to advocate for its members, this initiative aligns directly with its strategic plan, emphasizing the Chamber's value proposition of ensuring our members are well represented and supported at
every level of government.
The delegation visited with U.S. Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn, along with U.S. Congressman Morgan Luttrell. It also had productive discussions with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, U.S. Small Business Administration, the Federal Highway Administration, and the U.S. departments of Education, Energy, and Health & Human Services.
Workforce Development:
Central to our discussions was the concept of workforce sustainability. We sought to understand how federal agencies and elected officials are addressing the need for a skilled and adaptable labor force. This included exploring programs that support Career and Technical Education (CTE), workforce training, and job readiness to ensure that our community can thrive in an evolving job market.

“My favorite part of the project was knowing that the simple pieces of wood we were cutting and sanding were going to a good cause and it was going to make a deserving child happy.”
- Araba H.
In September, the Next Generation Leadership students participated in their first service project of the year by volunteering with Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Sleep in Heavenly Peace is an organization which builds beds for children in our community who do not have a bed of their own. Students participated in all parts of the bed making process from cutting the wood boards to assembling the headboards and staining each piece of the bed. Students enjoyed being a part of giving back to their community in such a big way.
The September meeting’s theme was “What is Leadership?” In this meeting, students got an opportunity to learn from their community leaders through an interactive panel and guest speaker. As the session began, students discussed personability, people skills, and ‘rising to the occasion’ as they heard and
learned from the experiences of a diverse panel of leaders, educators, and representatives from various business fields. Later, students got to meet Tracey Casey-Arnold, founder of Whatever It Takes Consulting, who inspired the young leaders to unleash their inner superheroes. From her compelling stories of youth and inspiration on how to turn your life to resemble one of a leader, students were empowered to believe it is possible to accomplish the unprecedented. As the session concluded, the motto was evident: “Leadership is not a position or title, it is action and example.”

“Partnering with the Center for Executive Development at Texas A&M aligns perfectly with our mission of growing the leaders in our community,” said LMC Executive Director Sarah Rhea. “Our core value of Lifetime Learning highlights that there’s always room for leaders to grow, and this is a very valuable next step for these leaders to grow their knowledge and capabilities.”
Leadership Master Class consists of six full-day sessions from October through April, each hosted by one of LMC’s partner chambers, including Conroe/ Lake Conroe Chamber, Greater EMC Chamber, Greater Magnolia Parkway Chamber, and The Woodlands Area Chamber of Commerce.
