The CLC Education charter is a powerful document underpinned by the College Vision and values of Justice, Love, Compassion and Hope.
The CLC Education Charter outlines core beliefs and practices around how we work and it clarifies the expectations of every teacher, student and parents/carers in order for each student to realise their full potential.
The CLC Education Charter embodies five interrelated elements – excellence, wisdom, belonging, courage and responsibility. It also provides an opportunity for students to promote and embrace the elements of the Charter to equip our students for success in their future endeavours.
CLC College offers a diverse and dynamic range of opportunities for students in Year 9. Students are offered a range of opportunities and are expected to take more responsibility for their learning. More responsibility means that students will make considered choices about what they will study.
Students are encouraged to analyse and engage with the world around them, to create knowledge and acquire skills for lifelong learning. In the middle years students are educated in a supportive learning environment where they are encouraged to take risks, enjoy challenges and become responsible independent learners.
It is important to think about what you like doing, what you are good at and find interesting. Do not make subject choices based on what your friends are doing: you might find yourself in a subject you do not enjoy. You are encouraged to take some risks and try new subjects; this is where the elective choices come in. You cannot change your electives during the semester; our whole school timetable is created on the basis of the choices made by students and it is very difficult to make changes after this.
All possible efforts will be made to ensure that you get to do the subjects you select, but sometimes it is just not possible given the selections made. We will talk with you if this is the case.
This Course Guide is just the starting point. You are welcome to speak with your teachers and Year Level Coordinator. Be informed and make sure you are well prepared for Year 9.

YEAR 9 LEARNING PROGRAM
What type of future do I control? How do I get there?
These are some of the big questions that the Year 9s are exposed to. With our University and TAFE partnerships, Year 9s start to think about what learning looks like after Year 12 and what types of careers these pathways can lead you to.
Students engage in investigations into their personal brand and further develop their sense of self and their place in the world. There is a focus on practical skills to help Year 9 learn about moving into young adulthood such as applying for jobs, how to answer questions in a job interview, managing their time, being independent in the City of Melbourne, managing their finances and communication skills.
Students will have choice in many of the learning projects, to reflect their interests and ideas. We aim to excite our young learners in authentic, real world projects though a series of engaging activities and hands on learning. With a focus on problem solving and generating solutions, the Year 9s complete projects which reflect the design thinking process and encourages them to be innovative in their ideas. Student voice is integral to the program and students work along side staff to accomplish their projects and work in groups with peers to further develop their team work and leadership skills.
