Summer Courses in the Centre of Bournemouth BBSI was founded in 1992 and has developed a reputation for providing both specialised English and general English courses for adult students and professionals from around the world. BBSI occupies three prominent Victorian buildings in the centre of Bournemouth, a beautiful seaside resort on the south coast of England. During the months of July and August we offer short summer courses of between one and eight weeks. In addition to English, students can study specialised subjects, a variety of business skills, and can prepare for and obtain a range of qualifications. BBSI has 23 classrooms, with either interactive Smartboard™, DVD, digital, or CD equipment. School capacity is around 300 students. All classes have a maximum of 14 students and school facilities include: n

BBSI is accredited by the British Council for the teaching of English, and is a member of English UK, Business English UK and IALC. BBSI holds an NCFE Investing in Quality (IIQ) Licence for its specialised courses. NCFE accreditation provides assurance that the content of a training course is of a high standard and meets the rigorous standards of a national awarding organisation. BBSI is also an Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) Approved Centre and an Authorised Preparation Centre for a range of Cambridge English examinations.

General English General English courses are flexible, allowing students to join at any time during the year, for any number of weeks. We offer a choice of four study programmes to suit all needs. Students can choose general English as their only course, or can use it as preparation for other courses at BBSI. Our General English courses all include access to MacMillan English Campus from our Virtual Learning Environment (VLE). The VLE offers students the flexibility to learn on their own terms, within a personalised environment, with immediate access to their chosen course.

English & IELTS [Academic] Preparation English & IELTS Preparation courses are flexible, allowing students to join at any time during the year, for any number of weeks. We offer a choice of either 30 or 40 lessons per week. IELTS preparation at BBSI is for the academic format of the exam. Students’ language levels are assessed on arrival and they are placed in appropriate classes.
Course Details These courses include extensive language development and preparation for the IELTS examination. They are suitable for those who are planning to take this international qualification to verify their language skills for entry to university, college of further education, or a future employer. The IELTS examination is held monthly in Bournemouth and can be booked at BBSI with a minimum of 6 weeks' notice (examination fees are not included in the BBSI course fees).

Communication & Business Skills is designed as an introduction to business language and terms in English, as well as the concepts and communication skills used in the international workplace.

English for Business The summer English for Business courses provide practice in the forms of English used by professionals in their workplace. Students can choose either 20 lessons (15 hours) weekly, or the intensive course of 30 lessons (22.5 hours) weekly which includes additional business skills or English language.
Course Details The courses include English grammar, vocabulary and skills practice, as well as business simulations such as meetings, telephoning, negotiations and presentations. Lessons will help students build confidence in using their English in professional and social scenarios. The courses are suitable for learners of English who are working in, or studying, business at a variety of levels and experience.

Accommodation and Welfare We always recommend homestay as the most effective way for students to improve their English outside the school. Residential accommodation can also be beneficial if students make the effort to talk to other residents from different countries. If students prefer to stay in private accommodation, they should be aware that this may limit their progress in English. Standard Homestay Accommodation
BBSI staff have experience and understanding of the many different welfare and cultural needs of international students, and our staff have appropriate qualifications and training in welfare. Our policy is to provide and maintain a safe and healthy environment for study. Welfare staff are on hand throughout normal school opening hours, and emergency staff are contactable at weekends and overnight.
BBSI standard homestay accommodation provides a single bedroom/study with a local host. Standard homestay is available on a part-board basis (breakfast and evening meal Monday-Friday and all meals at weekends), on a bed and breakfast basis, or on a self-catering basis. Most rooms have internet connection. All homestays are inspected regularly to ensure that high standards of comfort, cleanliness, safety and catering are met and maintained.
Executive Homestay Accommodation BBSI executive homestay accommodation provides a more luxurious standard of single bedroom/study with ensuite or private bathroom and internet connection. Executive homestay is available on a part-board basis (breakfast and evening meal Monday-Friday and all meals at weekends), on a bed and breakfast basis, or on a self-catering basis. All homestays are inspected regularly to ensure that high standards of comfort, cleanliness, safety and catering are met and maintained.

Standard Homestay
BBSI organises both student-style and hotel-style residential stays. Student-style residences are self-catering, with communal living/kitchen areas. Some student-style residences are available year-round, and there is also a special summer residence for July and August. Hotel-style residences can be booked on a room-only basis, with breakfast and dinner being available at some residences as an option. Fees vary according to the location and room type, and are published on the BBSI website at www.bbsi.co.uk
Guest Houses and Hotels BBSI can recommend a variety of guest houses and hotels close to our premises that would suit all budgets. Students can choose a room with or without private bathroom. Breakfast and dinner can also be provided on request.

Location Bournemouth
Bournemouth is a holiday town with a reputation for being sophisticated and vibrant. The town is a regional centre for commerce, with two universities, and is a unique and popular place to live and study throughout the year. There is lively nightlife, with a wide range of quality entertainment, including cinemas, concerts, theatres, night clubs, bars and restaurants. Our shops cater for all tastes. Bournemouth is also famous for its seven miles of sandy beaches, beautiful parks and gardens, and its cosmopolitan atmosphere. There is also easy access to many regional cultural attractions. Bournemouth International Airport has daily flights to numerous UK and European destinations and there are sea ferries from Poole to France, Spain and the Channel Islands.

Surrounding Area The beautiful coastal area to the east and west of Bournemouth is a designated World Heritage Site. To the west of Bournemouth lies the ancient port of Poole, situated within a vast natural harbour. Poole provides access to wildlife, deserted islands and beautiful landscapes.
Travel Details Bournemouth is less than two hours travelling time from London by coach, train or car. On their first morning at BBSI, students are welcomed to the school and given information about local services and facilities. Transport options are explained, including those bus routes between BBSI and the residential areas where our homestay accommodation is located. Most bus journeys between homestays and BBSI take between 10 and 20 minutes.
Transfer to Bournemouth We offer a transfer service from airports, seaports, and rail and coach stations to take students directly to their accommodation.

Social Programme BBSI offers a selection of leisure, sports and social activities, designed to appeal to the majority of students, both during the week and at the weekends. In designing our social programme we aim to accommodate the varied preferences of as many of our students as possible, taking into account cultural background, age and religious faith. Some events and activities are free of charge. For activities that incur entry fees and transportation costs, a charge will be made. Weekend day trips are organised on our behalf by a third-party company, and they provide a tour guide on the trips. Activities include: n n n n n
